Maybe as this actually Nike people saying make as cheap as possible for X quality? We could get lucky and have issues be less and more on Jersey placement issues.
The players already use fanatics shirts and such underneath the jerseys. I don’t think fanatics will skimp on the jerseys for the players. You really can’t. They have to be both light and durable. But I do worry what they’ll make for the fans
@@mrh3894 these companies probably do not care, like how some big corporations are doing even more since 2020 using pandemic as an excuse to do a bunch of things all at same time, making product even worse, jacking up prices, and keeping workers salary the same. Some like Cars have a legitimate issue of making vehicle too computerized and who is hording Chips, China for cheap electronic products with spying capabilities but rest are raking in Billons of record profits.
This was a collective failure amongst all parties involved (MLB, NIKE and FANATICS). They tried to cut too many corners to save money and thought we wouldn’t notice….Well guess what WE DID ⚾️🔥
Yes, I agree, I Bet Nike people said to Fanatics owner/people in charge of uniform design make it for X so prices are cheaper on uniforms and jack price up becuse they have Nike name on them and are in fact Nike. I bet some higher end Fanatics gear is not great but okay like a higher end knockoff item where clothing is actually okay. It is like the Supreme brand slapping logo on already made items and selling for a higher price or on basic non branded items when people are just buying Chinese knockoffs of arm sleeves where color is off and more an orange red or Supreme with 2 p in name or misspelled Suprame/Supremee with latter people removing second e.
There’s only one reason why Nike would subcontract Fanatics to manufacture the uniforms, because Fanatics quoted a price that was cheaper than Nike could do themselves. And we already know what kind of cheap sweatshop labor Nike gets down with…
The reason Nike subcontracted Fanatics is because Fanatics actually owns Majestic, who has made the MLB jerseys for years. So they’re just using the same production facilities already set up to keep making the jerseys, just with Nike-produced fabrics.
I have been a Dodgers fan my entire life- my son is finally getting into baseball and I was willing to drop good money on Ohtani jerseys for both of us. No way in hell am I buying these. Your theory is exactly what I have been saying. Fanatics is known for their low quality. They saw an opportunity to approach Nike/Manfred with jerseys that would increase profit margins and they thought we wouldn't care as long as the players on the field had to wear the same crap. Slap on the description some BS technology like, "innovative Vapor Premier chassis" with a Nike embroidered swoosh and they thought we would just give them our money. Just read about the owner of Fanatics history and the only thing he seems to be great at is throwing parties, networking, and filling these massive egos of celebrities/athletes/sports commissioners. Nike has already ruined NBA jerseys and I refuse to buy those as well. Don't even get me started on what Nike did to Lakers gold uniforms- they are an eye sore. Now Fanatics and Nike are ruining NFL,MLB and NHL jerseys. Giving us worse quality and still expect us to pay premium prices. It's only going to get worse if short sighted fans keep buying them regardless.
If they are kids just get them fake jerseys. They won't know the difference. Different story if they are a bit older and other kids could make fun of them. But if I have a 7-year-old he's getting one made in China for 35 dollars that has a messed up "P" in Phillies lol
I blame Nike because they have became a monopoly on all of our sports they are the Official uniform company for the NBA NFL and now MLB they have no competition anymore
I would laugh hysterically if during the season a player stole second base and during a head first slide, the team name fell off the jersey. That would be my highlight of 2024
@@texascardnot what was shown in many videos to this point. New jerseys have heat pressed letters and patches. Sounds like some teams said no, but that wasn't the initial new jerseys had.
all the fanatics stuff I've come across is crap quality. my 2019 stanley cup champions shirt from them feels super cheap. the sleeves are too short and the collar has gotten stretched out, despite only having worn it occasionally. I have shirts 3x as old that have held up better. garbage company with shitty products.
Probably while smoking with Snoop Dog super Chimmy Chaunga sized spiffs of a mix of max weed strengths adding in some super strength CBD for good measure so High is not having them glued to couch. I am saying spliffs so big people can barely hold using 2 hands.
I woke up this morning and the ABC affiliate had a local morning show displaying a placard saying “The new Superman costume?” My first thought was, “ did fanatics run this too?”
Look at the trim on the sleeves. I coach basketball and buy a lot of uniforms. On the old jersey, the trim is sewed on top of the sleave. on the new jersey, the trim is an extension of the sleeve so it sort of buckles a little bit at the top of the stitching and. again just looks cheap
Weeks before the story hit big, a Blue Jays fan posted a video on RU-vid comparing his 2023 replica, 2023 authentic and 2024 authentic jerseys. The 23 replica is better quality than the 24 authentic. Check it out, he does close ups of them all and it's striking how cheap the new ones are.
Back when it was announced that Fanatics was going to be making the new MLB jerseys all I heard was people saying Fanatics was crap. Then the jerseys come out and they are indeed crap.
As an NHL fan and collector of jerseys from different eras and manufacturers from CCM to koho, to reebok and adidas, nothing has scared me more about the future than Fanatics taking over for a decade.
@@kj6446these baseball players with the complaints is paving a way to hopefully shit not being bad for the nhl. If it is bad hopefully nhl teams will stick up for themselves like what the royals and cardinals have done.
@@kj6446 exactly! Remember Starter? Their jerseys were ultra comfortable but fell apart on the ice in fights. I still look for them when buying a jersey though. But at least the logos on theirs were better than CCMs. Fanatics uses plastic patches.adidas and rebooks were good too but we were skeptical. This time we SHOULD BE scared!
I'm praying the NHL avoids this and do not put out garbage for "retail authentic" jerseys. If they have any brains, they would learn from this MLB debacle.
Champion was actually crap they did plastic letters and numbers for the nba in the early 90s. Later nba switched to Adidas which was a big upgrade everything was stitched on nicely I still have one that looks almost new
I have not bought any of the stuff Nike had put out since they started to do the MLB jerseys and when they started to do the NBA uniforms. They looked terribly cheap and not up to the standard I was used to. They feel cheaper and substandard and to the touch and look bad. They honestly have been looking like pajamas to me.
Stitching - no.... we gotta do heat press... Whoever greenlit that idea is at fault... but I mean... Fanatics and Nike can learn to share... in the blame, fucking failures. (literally providing answers to the questions NO ONE ASKED.)
I don't believe for one minute that MLB players were lobbying for lighter "more breathable" unis. I call BS. Great job breaking it down and not letting anyone off the hook. There is ONE reason for this debacle: Greed. It's just another example of monopolization and cost cutting to boost profits.
Fanatics just produces the product. Gotta blame Nike and MLB for design specs. Personally I think the whole thing was planned for maximum controversy. Few ppl are paying attention to MLB anymore. Ultimately they will modify them to something reasonably mediocre and everyone will say how much better they are; when in reality they are still going to be much cheaper made than Majestic. This was Nike/Fanatics lowering the bar all the way to the floor, so they can get away with making a dirt cheap product that sells for way too much money. Its all incredibly stupid and greedy. Its how they make billions.
@@briancarbone419 Unsolicited old guy advice: focus on the positive aspects of getting older. It sucks in many ways but there are also very positive aspects.
Tony Stark head of the Players Union said something along the lines of, 'We have enough serious issues as it is I didn't think that one of them would be see through pants.'
As a garment embroiderer, you are right, it might be too late to embroider the names and logos the same way as the previous uniforms. It takes time to make it properly in so short a time because of the intricate details involved.
Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred released the following statement: "Just like the Astros cheating scandal, I believe once some time has passed that everyone will forget that there was ever a problem."
I have an NFL jersey from the last pre-Nike season. The replicas produced in the first few Nike years looked like women's jerseys with smaller numbering and letters and a closer fit. My old pre-Nike jersey is far superior. Fully stitched. To this day I refuse to buy one of those "chick jerseys" as i call them.
MLB Teams: "We can't afford the nice uniforms anymore!" Also MLB Teams: "Sign that player for $100,000,000 and raise tickets and concessions 25% this season."
Here’s what I dont think people understand as someone who unfortunately has to sell these things in store for a living, these jerseys were in backrooms for about a month before spring training awaiting a release date, so while they may be able to reverse course for the jerseys that the players wear, there’s NO turning back for the consumer for this season at the very least.
The Philadelphia daily News was talking about the new Uniforms some players didn't want their said in the paper . They said the Jersey now looks very cheaply made and another player said after getting to camp and having MLB clean the Jerseys a couple times the stitching with name & numbers where loose . It mostly said a lot the Phillies players didn't like them but it alwo said a couple players did like them but not many
I was looking forward to buying an Ohtani this year. Hard pass though. You pay good money, but you know quality is there, disappointed with what’s goin on here.
Nike gave them the template, they messed it up. I haven’t heard one complaint from a college guy wearing the new template because Nike made them with actually decent quality
Haha. For real, the lettering is exactly like the cheap knock offs. It was the #1 sign someone didn’t want to spend the $200 for the official jersey lol
This CEO of the generation where one’s first impulse is to blame someone else rather than take accountability for the product bearing your company’s name.
Didn't seem to me as though players were being impeded or their performance was being hindered by the previous uniforms. But hey I'm just a fan who lives and breathes baseball, what do I know?
Fanatics bought the company who made the previous jersey, and the factory where the were made. The Nike jerseys of the previous 2-3 years were relabeled Majestic products.
Fanatics and Nike saying that nostalgia is holding people back from accepting the future is like spitting in the face of every fan that cares about the sport.
I just feel bad for the sweat shop kids because you know they’re bearing the brunt of this. I can just picture Michael Rubin yelling like Sean Strickland, “work harder child!”
The Rays are finally getting a city connect jersey this season, and I was looking forward to buying it when they had originally announced it. If it releases at the same quality and price as the jerseys we’ve been seeing during this year’s spring training, that’s gonna be a fat skip for me. The replicas ($175) and the Authentics ($400~) are both a huge downgrade and an absolute slap in the face to the fans.
What’s wrong with nostalgia? There are some iconic teams, and jerseys; I just can’t imagine an owner let alone a fan base being ok with cheapening their beloved uniforms. Fanatics is going to cock up the NHL jerseys, get the Adidas ones while you can.
I’m not an expert in fan gear but the reputation of Fanatics is for overpriced cheaply made look alike products. You wouldn’t put your 13u team in their gear because it won’t stand up to the wear and you don’t want your 12yo walking around in see through pants. How they got the contract with MLB is a real mystery.
