Tbf the ppl who evade most are on the lowest incomes, so they should make discounted travel for those on benefits etc so that way it reduces the risk of price hikes which ultimately benefits everyone
So basically what you have to do is jump the barriers in and out. Wear a balaclava. (No digital trail and no face to be identified) And if the inspectors try to stop you, run for your life.
Or simply carry a single shot release key they are all keyed alike according to tfl t&r book two so it looks like just wearing orange vest with cubic written on it
I don't dodge fares these days but when I was a kid I never paid for the train, however they need to make travel much cheaper, the whole service is over priced.
@@theunderrated86 I never paid ever as a kid, if I got caught I would get off and get another train, I did it from Bath to Sheffield on the Millennium to go to Gatecrasher, there were less gates and cameras but sometimes it was literally 3 in the toilet for a whole hour
@@theunderrated86 There was the other trick of waiting until the inspector came towards you and just walk past him as to go to the toilet or something, that or just pretend to be asleep. They all worked to some degree
@@antifugazi The sleeping trick ticket inspectors know it these days. The toilet trick, you can still get away with it. The one that I did was if the inspectors get on at a station, just get off at the same time and wait for the next train. Never fails. Main thing is just to stay calm and not throw tantrums.
All about subsidies from the government, London bus and Tube fares have been frozen until 2025. But Tube daily and weekly caps, the price of travelcards and River Bus services, will be going up. The freeze follows an average rise of 5.9% for bus, Tube, rail and tram fares in the capital last year.
@@callumtanner992 Just because you're miserable over a failed music career, doesn't mean we need to be on the receiving end of you projecting that insecurity :)
how about instead of doing this, they crack down on knife crime which actually affects people’s lives? Or how about they lower TFL prices since they’re the reason people are pushed to dodge since they simply can’t afford to even use public transportation.
Exactly, and why are they blaming the faults on the rail system on the evaders when there are literal strikes because the staff aren't being payed properly. So where is all the money going???
It's like this everywhere. Where I live (Sweden) the ticket controllers dress up like paramilitaries (I'm not joking, google "Ordningsvakt" if you want to see how they look like) and let me tell you, they're a lot less friendly than the British controllers.
How much do these fare evasion TFL undercover personel get paid?? Surely it is NOT cost effective.. ......These dubious looking individual's hanging around stations when there is a high rate of PICKPOCKETS and SCAMMERS. is worrying.
I'm dodging as much as I can. I'm sorry but I barely am able to save £20 after outgoings. If I paid for TfL during peak times I'd just make over £10. Sure I've got caught a couple of times and had to pay a fine, but the risk of getting caught does not outweigh paying daily. UK train travel costs are insane compared to rest of the world. I could fly back and forth to Turkey cheaper than get return ticket train from London to north Lincolnshire.
LOL 🤣 never paid to use any toilet yet I either jump the barrier or wait until somebody comes out to open the barrier If it's one of them sort " with the magic eye Because some places like York " for example ; will charge you 50p The ones in silver Street near The Shambles do ,,,😡 And the last thing you want to be doing is checking your pockets for change when you are busting for a piss or a s**t lol 😂🤣😭
@@alcoholocaust7 oh shii I jus clocked that right now that he’s some Rich brudda, that showed his watch to the camera as close as possible so he could flex on mandem like us😂
The last guy although an offender was honest, he simply said “I know” he knew he was wrong and he admitted it. At least he did not humiliate himself further like everyone else of the offenders in this program. Although I am a person who strongly believe in a society we all need to abide to the law, i don’t know why but he gained my respect.
Yeah that's what I do. I only pay when I'm caught because it always works out cheaper than paying all the time. I don't cause any trouble for the inspectors just doing their job.
If one Oyster gets flagged for the same irregular journey and they identify you, then that Oyster stops going through and a new one comes up and gets flagged for the same irregular journey, you could get done for both. The evidence is still there. Trick would be to switch them regularly enough. Once per month at least. I believe you used to be able to swap them back and get your £5 back but not sure. Then just get a new one out of a machine.
If they just accidentally got the wrong ticket they should get a warning which could go on the TOCs records so they don’t do it again but if it’s deliberate they need to be fined at least £50
@@LittleLoz because if everyone collectively refused to pay the rail operators would be forced to lower fares. Same way as if everyone refused to pay their energy bills overnight and withheld payment for several months, it would force the energy companies out of business within weeks and force the government to step in and re nationalise the energy industry on a not for profit basis.
There are worse offenders than petty fare evaders. More effort should be made towards catching violent and dangerous people than towards catching petty fare evaders. If TFL wants to reduce fare evasion, they should lower the fare prices. This will actually give people an incentive to play farely when they use the Tube.
The last two people :- It is hard to discriminate them, their wages are too low, they have to get to work and the fares sap £££s from their meagre pay.....their families struggle = full stop.
1:57 does it matter if they’ve touched out? They’ll just be charged the maximum fare! It’s whether they’ve touched in or not that you’ve got to worry about
What if you already brought a ticket, you paid for it legit, but when ticket inspector come they accused you for buying the wrong ticket? And then they just tell you to buy another ticket onboard for twice the price. Yes, that happened to me. Bought a ticket from Gatwick Airport to St. Pancras for tenner. Then ticket inspector came, said to me that I got the wrong ticket. So then I had to buy another one for 25 quid.
@@grassytramtracks Yeah, 100% sure. Bought the right ticket, waited for the right train, board the right train at the right time. But for some reason, and they told me, 'I boarded the wrong train with the wrong train operator' I had to buy another ticket.
@@theunderrated86simply refute mate as you have the ticket and it shows the time of the train and where you are getting on and off so just give no details and ignore and if anyone else questions you like transport police you have all the proof you need . Dont give in to the power tripping ticket workers once wouldnt even let me go through barriers after I got off 1 stop over had to buy another one for like £4 to then walk about 3 miles there a joke x
maybe they should put money into improving their archaic service instead of catching teenagers and people who obviously cant afford to pay in the first place
That you Ray Tuppence nice to catch up with you after all these years. you still living in Brixton... Nice? Number 1 The Broadway..Nice..Pop round later.. Nice, With the police...
27:50 god they’re so strict in London... down here in Kent most conductors would just be like “make sure you pay next time” and then they’ll remember to check you next time.
@@drxftin2223 if it’s genuine evasion I get it but with intent to pay it legally and actually isn’t, it is simply (in law) known as failing to produce a ticket when asked which is a different kettle of fish. Typical scrounging government, sell it off is what I say.
25:37 actually they should call her... if they are under age someone must be contacted also penalties cannot be issued to children so she should be called to come and deal with the penalty
Ah, they do. Have you never heard of plan clothes?! Also don't you think ticket office staff are watching your ever move. They know every trick in the book. Pay your way or fuck off and walk.
That's what I do, I just leave 1 pound when I touch in and before 12AM I'll transfer to another bank so when they try to charge there'll be nothing, no way I'm pay almost 4 pounds per day in transport, 3 days and I can buy my grocery for the week.
20:55 what about if they don’t have identification though? It’s not a requirement to carry ID in the uk... nor is it a criminal offence to fare evade unless you planned to go your WHOLE journey without paying it is just a civil offence.
I wonder how far back they save the CCTV. Say it was 6 months. And say you were dodging fares for 2 years. You could just say you were given the Oyster card by a friend 6 months ago who has since left the country. If they couldn't prove it was you for the full 2 years you might not have to pay the full whack.

Here in the Stockholm area you can just hop off at the next stop if the inspectors show up since it's not a criminal offence to dodge fares heheh. They can only fine you if you give them your ID but most people don't know that you legally don't have to.
I live in Sweden and what this man is saying is complete nonsense. The ticket inspectors (Ordningsvakter in most cities) can call the police and then you'll be detained if you fail to show your ID. Plus they're a thousand times more rude than then British Inspectors.
@@delki69 that's entirely on purpose. I've been on buss rides here in Sweden where the inspector will literally ignore everyone on the buss and only check the non-white person, even if there's only one non-white passenger on that buss, after which they'll exit the buss without checking anyone else.

I found a loophole in their system that allows me to travel on the train network for nothing. It's also basically impossible for me to get caught. Haven't paid a train fair in over 2 years and will continue not to pay.
tfl are greedy thieving bastards that overcharge at every chance they get for a decaying system. i know the workers are doing there jobs but im not feeling sorry for monopolists loosing out on their profit margins
Kinda feels like Victorian times...so they know which card is offending...is there no way to set the machines to alert audibly and visually when that card touches in or out? All this monitor watching, and staring at thousands of faces seems a bit archaic.
The effort they puts just to catch a man or a woman bcs they dont want to pay is unbelievable like if they put that much effort into reducing gang violence streets would have been safer but they would rather fine a working class worker that tries to live his miserable life than actually protect the community TFL and all these officers are geeks
Of course it is... and the reason everyone's fares go up so much each year - is as a direct result of the lost revenue from fare dodgers ! Plus - the London underground system is nothing to do with surface crime ! Get real !
All that ramble makes no sense, given that the programme is aimed at dealing with tackling fare evasion. Doesn't matter how poor you are, you know that it's not worth dodging the fare.
My friend works for the company that installed the gate line system (as well as the entire Oyster system), it’s made by a company in San Diego called Cubic Transport. Amazing system that’s in use all over the US, UK and world. Provides a lot of rider info for the police etc as well. They do the cards for San Francisco, LA, and NY as well. Pay the fare.
@@enthusiastisch1922 Sort your finances out then. Just as there's serious consequences for not paying taxes, there's serious consequences for not paying the fare.
When i lived in London in the early eighties I never paid at all. I "bunked" every time. Either barge through, vault over or he's got it pointing behind. lol
In the United States, people just wouldn't care, give fake names, claim they lost their ID, and tear up the ticket. If a fare inspector pressed the issue, the offender would punch them in the face and run away. Its really amazing the culture in the UK where authority is so much more respected. The US has a *huge* problem with fare evasion and the offenders just don't give a damn at all.
Guns are far more lethal than knives. The vast majority of our criminals don't carry guns, so that makes them far more evenly matched with inspectors in force. Your criminals HUGELY outgun and outarm your inspectors, who I presume may not carry guns while on the job. That's the difference.
