As a Canadian who's lived in the NYC, London & Switzerland, I noticed that announcing your success is an especially American trait. It's a good thing to do well in the US, and it's generally admired. In Canada, we have tall poppy syndrome. When I returned to Toronto after working on Wall Street, a search partner told me (kindly) not to wear my Cartier diamond bezel watch on interviews. A NY colleague swaps out her large diamond engagement ring for a smaller one when she visits Toronto. I have always preferred a more subtle, chic look...a true Canuck I guess!

Looking back, each decade has its own style - which catches the mood of the time. I think this decade will be predominantly influenced by the lockdowns. We wore soft easy clothes - and I think an elevated version of soft and comfortable is going prevail. So, for example, comfortable shoes are here to stay, soft warm coats, loose clothing made from rich fabrics like cashmere or silk, will be around some years to come. Just my view, but having lived for 7 decades you get an intuition about these things.

I grew up with my grandparents and I always recall her having an understated, quiet elegance. Like they could affordvanything, but she didn't advertise thru her style that they were well off. She always told me that you exude styl and grace, not wear it. I believe I carried this philosophy thru my life. I have been gifted beautiful jewelry, clothing and throughout my life emassed a considerable amount of expensive jewelry that I never wear. I stick with simple basics like a string of pearls, gold band, simple gold or diamond studs, just like my grandmother. I believe what she told me. Expensive stuff doesn't make you. I inherited all of her jewelry , that she never wore, but she was always known and remembered to be a stylish, graceful, Understated , classic , elegant presence in the world without flaunting labels or her wealth.

To me, style comes with a good vocabulary and correct grammar, and no curse words. Nothing diminishes a person like a foul mouth. (IMO, tattoos are 100% in this category as well.) As others have said, it's not necessarily what you wear, but how you present yourself.

I’ve been a fan of chocolate brown, camel, black and gray for decades lol. I remember my mom used to despair if I’d ever wear color since she thought neutrals made me look drab and I’d never meet a boy! Horrors!😂 At any rate I’ve never followed fashion trends. I can’t be bothered 😂 I like comfy clothes and shoes. BUT for some reason I love watching your fashion videos.❤. Maybe I’m living a vicarious life through you 😂

My style is definitely more minimalist tradition. I buy into the “quality over quantity” philosophy and prefer to pay $200 for a well-made cashmere non-logo, luxury brand sweater, than purchase a $200 logo headband from a big fashion house. Although I definitely fall into the aspirational buyer category, I prefer to save up the handbag I want rather than buy logo earrings to try and look wealthy.

I can relate to you, my grandmother was like that too, she loved things that did speak to her and wasn't afraid too go a little outside the box in some way.. ( she was a paint artist, not known) She always said, you won't be more pritty writh ekspensiv or a chunky jewelry writh a fancy name. but a small favorite jewelry can insted make you happy. Big hugs from Denmark. 🌹💝🥰

I think you're right on monogram/logos coming back. About 2-3 years ago, I had a friend (lovingly) tell me that my Tiffany necklace was out and made me look dated. I saw one recently on an influencer's channel, so I've been wearing it again and gotten compliments every time - specifically from folks in their 20s. YAY! It made me so sad that it would be stuck in a drawer forever.

I never felt the need of buying a handbag that was $12,000 to $20,000. Spending copious amounts of money on fashion is not necessary to have style or quiet luxury. Those of us who don't have large amounts of money to spend on designer clothing have learned to be more creative in clothing choices. I can't tell you how many times I have been complimented on an outfit or a particular item I was wearing and when I explained that I bought it at Zara, for example, they can't believe it. All I am saying is that if you have the money to spend, and you absolutely love somehing, then go ahead and purchase it, but never put yourself into a position where you wind up making payments on a monthly basis. When it comes to showing logos on clothing or handbags, I don't find it necessary. I hope this doesn't sound too harsh because that was not my intention.😊❤

Sat down to breakfast and was 1 of 4 here first. 🎉 Yay!! I'm all for Traditional Preppy with browns and navys. Good style and color for me. I'm a sunglasses fanatic! As I commented in the last video, of all the sunglasses in your collection, those sunglasses are my favorite. They look so cool on you! 😎 I recently customized some sunglasses. I chose a pink brown lens which are lighter than I normally go for. But I love them! So happy that you think they may be this year's trend!

Wealth is a matter of opinion. I consider myself not poor, but not weathly...in money. I am extremely wealthy in the blessings I've had in my life with my children and grandchildren. Too much emphasis is placed on the numbers in the bank account when the truth is, it's all temporary. I'd much rather lay my treasure up in Heaven where it matters. To always be an in-your-face person with the labels is not attractive. To many people need material things to make them feel important and seen.

Michele, I know you don't consider yourself in the "aspirational" category of shoppers, but in my opinion, ALL of those designer shops are for that type of shopping. People who want to flaunt wealth and status, whether they actually have it or not. I have known many wealthy people over the years, and virtually none of them ever shop in those places or care about showing off wealth.

Growing up, as a Gen Xer in urban Canada, it was considered the uppermost in bad taste to wear anything with a visible logo with even he hint of possibly showing that you were enjoying showing off that you could afford to spend more than some could dream of on an item. If anything, the point would be to wear items that no one, unless the knew, would be able to distinguish aside from cut and quality of material. ‘Very clearly’ NOT a designer product. I think this is a backlash against the wearing of huge logos.

I'm all in for the quiet luxury trend (you don't have to wear a label head to toe to achieve that) and the comfortable shoes. There's a chunky white sneaker that appears when you are talking about shoes, I think Marni ... loved it. It's nice to come out of one's comfort zone from time to time, like what you did with the sunglasses. In my case it's with barrel leg pants 😆

Very fun video! I like where so many of these predictions are headed. I think pearls are going to be very big (which you mentioned in another video) and I have a few strands of them which I wear quite frequently. I also have a hunch that brooches are coming back in a big way. I recently saw Dancing with the Stars filmed in-person and Derek Hough was wearing a large brooch. I also recently bought a few brooches and people have commented on them. Ben-Amun has interesting costume brooches. I love the idea of belts coming back now that I've lost weight. I've been pulling them out from the backs of my drawers. I was recently in Elyse Walker where I know some of the sales associates, and they did in fact say that they will be getting in lots of kitten heels for the fall, which are flattering and more comfortable than 4-inch heels which I don't wear.

Now, I don't care so much and in LA people think wearing earrings is dressed for the opera, lol. Loved the 90s -- have a lot of, hate to admit, actual shearling, leather, and logo bags, belts and shoes. The lifestyle pieces idea you offered is a lifesaver. I agree regarding polo and rugby shirts, thats will be huge. Prada earings and logo jewelery in general - i dont think so, something like Botega drop earings will be on the rise. It will be more about recognozeble shape and color, or pattern. Also kinda agree regarding traditional stuff... Grandfather ish fashion will be on the rise. Old Burberry, Barbour, RL will be in.

Funny you mention the lifestyle pieces. While in Vegas this Christmas, I had my plan of attack. Gucci/LV for specific items and then window shop for something special. I ended up grabbing a Gucci bag and an LV small ring agenda and if they had the medium I probably would have bought it. I ended up buying a bunch of lifestyle items from different houses because I didn’t notice the SA’s guiding me towards them. I guess I gave American upper middle class vibe and I didn’t notice😅 I wasn’t wearing anything loud and looked as if I were shopping in Italy, go figure. Lol on the TLC pants, I had some Girbauds I bought in the men’s section at a Merry-Go-Round🤣

Oh TLC and that look!!!! Brings me back. To me those r “creep” pants. Prob cuz it was one of my fave TLC songs 😂 Im torn on the logo thing. As someone who never had logo items and wanted them badly growing up (soooo wanted a pair of guess jeans w that triangle on the a$$) i sometimes find myself really wanting something like a logo bag. So far most high end luxury items r just not in my budget or something im willing to pay for. I think some of this is almost a thing from growing up a little bit poorer. The devil on my shoulder says f it. Buy the ridiculously priced handbag. The angel says omg r u nuts. Keep clipping coupons for toothpaste u never know what could happen. Such a funny thing when u think about all the thoughts we have buried deep. Especially about money. As a shorter person im not into the baggy pant thing coming back. Not into brown but love navy and black. I love the belt idea. I dont have any really nice belts and was trying to find one last year and just didnt see much. Im here for comfy shoes!!! And for sunglasses i have a few pairs w tinted glass vs black opaque. Opaque is still my fave though but the others r cute. Recently on younger people i feel like i am still seeing a lot of crop tops and dressed down comfy shoes with almost anything. For workout wear i feel like its been a crazy mix lately at my gym of oversized basic t shirts w basic leggings (sorta shlubby look to me) and monochromatic second skin leggings w little sports bras. I also feel like i see more people at work dressing down which is fine by me and more simple barely done hair and makeup. Im not a huge trend follower so this is helpful for me to consider when shopping this year! Thank u.

I just got my color analysis and I’m a cool summer so I understand now why browns and rust tones never looked good on me. I’ll be sticking with cool tones in spite of any trends! 😅

None of other people’s business if one wears with logo or not. If you got it, flaunt it. Doing what makes you happy is the best accessory.

When my mom describes someone as "old shoe", it means that person has a lot of money and takes great steps to not flash it around. They could very well old worn out shoes, but it's more just living smaller, less glitzy, not sharing the bank account balance. It's a self-protection against grifters. There's also a big difference from that and label wearing. You can wear the labels at any price, of course.

Hi Michele, totally random but Kilian just released a cola scented perfume on Sephora and I thought of you! I haven’t smelled any cola scented perfume so I’m tempted to blind buy it.

Michele, do you have a preferred size for the Speedy? I'm trying to decide between 20 and 25. I love the cross body strap with the 20, but I just think the 25 is a better size. Thoughts?

I definitely fall into the aspirational category and I have to say that the luxury market overplayed its hand, imo. I was just in Las Vegas and stopped at the Chloe boutique and contemplated buying a guitar strap for my Marcie bag (which I bought 10 years ago & thought I overpaid 😅) and was shocked and completely turned off by the price. $850 for a strap?! I refuse to spend $3k for a handbag, let alone a $1k accessory. That’s their right to price what they believe the market will bear. But I haven’t purchased anything in a long time.

I’ve recently uploaded a video on luxury packaging due to the fact that VCA have now started to stop the luxury boxes and just provide the travel wallet. I have tagged you and would love to hear your thoughts on the subject ❤

A few months ago I was just hit with a disgust of quiet luxury. There is nothing quiet about it. I used to think it was the most elegant and stylish of all styles but realised it is the most snobbish of all styles. The ''signal value'' of easily recognisable items seems to be at the core. (Me, rich, bent nail with diamonds for 50,000. Aren't I special?) There are so few things to chose from really, it is a very limited wardrobe of jewellery and clothes and it just seems to go on and on and on for years now! Boring and snobbish. Make it go away, please. Hope it dies with the price hike of (crap quality) Chanel bags, which is such a sign of the times. So distasteful.
