The swag era is a dark moment in human history

Just be yourself and your style will never fade. Following trends will leave you feeling empty as well as your pockets. When I quit following trends and started doing my own thing was when I started feeling alive and grounded.

what people dont realize about skinny jeans is they may have only been a trend in the mainstream , but they will eternally be a staple in punk/rock/metal/emo/goth/alternative looks and culture which the mainstream was heavily biting off in very poser ways for a long time. these genres are uncaring about trends and what is deemed cool or uncool.

It’s all about how you put it together. I’m amazed at how Tik tok teens can make Vans, AF1, Nike foams and Supreme look corny af 😂

I think everyone is a little too confident with the "swag era is beneath us and will not return" thing. A lot of those outfits can and will be brought back to light, just in an updated way. swap out the chicago bulls crewneck for a university crewneck, relax the fit of the jeans a bit, go for a simple AF1 instead of jordans, and replace the beats with airpod max and voila. maybe we aren't wearing snapbacks, logo belts, or big jewelry as much anymore but I wouldn't be surprised if those slowly creep back in as well. all it takes is one hyped item to catch on and boom.

Fun lil story from the swag era: When I was like 13 my mom gave me somewhere around $200 to go to some kid at my schools paintball birthday party, I took the money and spent it all on Diamond tees at Zumiez and then just hungout and watched them play paintball in a Diamond tee 😂

Vans will never go out of style

the swag era still has some after effects rippling right now. i work in a store that isn’t a fashion store by any means but carrie’s some streetwear, and while we don’t carry vans or obey anymore like we used to, those huf weed socks are still very much big sellers, and i think the trend of bigger silhouettes in shoes is closer to osiris and dc than we’d like to admit. take a set of 550s, bulk them up and put them in a black and neon green colorway and that’s a pair of dc’s. baseball hats making a comeback too, that’s just a step away from snapbacks. the swag era probably won’t look the same but the foundations are very close

I dont wear them but slim fitted jeans are actually the highest selling jeans of all the cuts, still to this day. Vans here in Australia are worn a lot, never fell off.

Maybe it’s bc I live here in SoCal, but Vans here have never fallen off. That goes for both the mall Vans and the nicer Vans Vault collabs. It’s like a staple brand, doesn’t matter wether you’re “fashiony” or a normie. Everyone here wears Vans 💀

Baggy pants is just fashion going full circle. Baggy pants will forever be 2004 vibes for me, im rocking skinny denim til the death of me

Box logos will always be a flex

Yeah TikTok does not dictate fashion, unless you wanna look identical to every other teenager. The vans stores in California are always pack with people copying shoes left and right not everyone can afford to drop $200 on a hype shoe. And baggy clothes is so uncomfortable when it rains trust me.

I remember going through elementary and middle school during the swag and nike basketball era. KDs, Lebrons, Diamond Supply, Pink Dolphin were just seen everywhere lol

Gorp core ain’t a trend in the Pacific Northwest, it’s a necessity.

I work in retail so I get to experience a lot of the trends from the younger workers. Vans have settled back down to where they were. Very popular but the random girls who never wore them before the hype have slid into Stan smiths now lol. The grown up trend makes sense bc it’s a pendulum, we went from ridiculously casual hoodies and sweats 24/7 to a classier look. Then it’ll get wacky again, then casual, back to classier, and continue to repeat. Great video man
