Thank you for this Eve. I think for me the problem is to stay in the moment. I'm working on that and will certainly try a few of your tips.

Alison Roux i know what you mean, staying present can be such a challenge! Good for your for being willing to try some things - I feel like having the intention and practice is what it takes (and the good news you get to practice every time you eat if you want). Keep us posted! ✨💕✨

@@vitamineve Yes, you help me so much with your videos! I'd like to ask if you don't mind to share, do you eat a certain way, vegan / gluten free / ketogenic and as a dietician, do you recommend one or the other?

I know this might be a long comment and I don't know if you'd read this, but I'm writing this anyway. Just found this video and your channel! Thank you so much for your content. I could relate to a lot of things you said. Especially the reasons that you listed for why some people may eat fast. I'm one of those fast eaters and I'm trying to slow down. There are two things that you mentioned that I could totally relate to. I eat fast when I'm either too excited about the delicious meal in front of me, or when I really don't like and just want to finish the thing like a dull job. It's also true that even when I eat some junk food that I think I would enjoy, I don't actually enjoy it as I don't take enough time to savour it. It's almost like a compulsion. I also love the fact that you apologized in advance before you started eating those chips because you thought you might be too loud. I'm one of those people who are too sensitive to these kind of sounds. I'm just the opposite of someone who enjoys ASMR eating videos. I'm disgusted by those. :D I'm going to practise what I just learned from you, especially eating without being distracted and eating slowly and chewing my food properly before swallowing. Once again, thanks a lot for the video. You just got yourself a new subscriber! :-)

Welcome Ramesh! Yes I do read these comments, thank you for taking the time to share what you realized about yourself. How interesting to learn that you may eat foods you “think you would enjoy” - and that maybe you don’t enjoy them or that maybe you’re just eating too fast! Our eating could be so interesting at times… as you said, like a compulsion. Did you find that were able to slow down? To savor? What makes it a challenge for you? What makes it possible? Feel free to share what you wish here - or you can email me directly at eve@vitamineve.com And thank you for subscribing!

@@vitamineve Thank you! I am trying to slow down and have seen some progress, although not a big change. The challenge is that I often forget the goal. I have noticed that I can do it when I remember my goal and focus on different aspects of the food like the colour, texture, aroma, and flavour and eat it as if it were a session of mindfulness meditation. :)

Hi Eve! I just came across your TEDtalk and your page and I'm really enjoying your tips, finding me at a great time :) I struggle with eating too fast and on-and-off disordered/binge eating like you described in your TEDtalk, I really resonated with it. In regards to the eating too fast, I try and work on grounding and being present, but I find that when I start to eat it's almost as if I'm addicted to the taste of the food, or to always having flavor in my mouth. I struggle to take time between bites and before I know it the food is all gone (like where the heck did it all go?? haha). Often craving more food after because I want more taste (whether I'm still hungry or overly full). Is there something specific you think this could be linked to? Or any specific tips you think would help? Thanks a lot I appreciate all you do for people. Keep spreading your light!

Aw! Thank you for your kind words :). Your awareness is a great start! Few things to evaluate... it’s helpful to find out what’s causing it so you can determine next steps!!: 1. Are you letting yourself get too hungry? 2. Are you giving yourself enough food? 3. Do you panic or feel a sense of anxiety around food? 4. Are you rushing in other areas of your life? Is this a generalized way of being? 5. Are you giving yourself enough time and space to switch gears, become present, and tune into your body when eating? 6. Something else? Just start paying attention even more... let us know what you find out!!

yeah I'm a fast eater, recently i try to count up to 30 in my head as i chew. I log it down to see how long it takes me to finish my food and it has been somewhat consistent at 10 minutes. my goal is to finish eating at 30 minutes so the next tatic i'm going to try is to put my food down if it's the kind where i use my hands or put down my utensils.

Interesting tactics! Let us know how it goes!! If I could add another one: How about being present and savoring each chew? Instead of focusing on the counting (of chews or time) how about focusing the mind on flavor, texture, sights, temperature, sound etc of food?

Hey. This video was very informative but I actually have the opposite problem currently. I used to eat really fast. I slowed down but now I eat way too slow and I can’t “remember” how to eat at a proper pace. Any advice for getting back on track? Right now my meals take me about an hour to consume.

Josh Gross yes! Sometimes eating with someone can help you pace yourself! If you know a “normal” eater or even if you don’t. So if you go out to eat you can even “use” a stranger or a table of strangers to pace with. I know it can be funky during covid times - but it can really help! Setting a timer helps some people too - like trying to eat a meal under 45mins and maybe later bring it down to 40, etc. Hope these suggestions are helpful!
