The baseball team is the Padres. Every Sunday home game they give tickets to the current marine class at Pendleton, as well as give Vets a Active Duty 25% off discounts for tickets. It’s why the Padres have camo uniforms.

Just saw this great stuff. When you guys talked about how they take care of dud mortar it got me thinking and my grandpa was a Sargent of a mortar team in 1969 and they didn’t have mitts to catch the round with it was all barehanded. And he actually had to do it once

4:54 is pretty messed up. Back in 2009 my unit got to go to San Antonio for Chuck Norris' World Combat League. He was there and we got to meet him. But we didn't get put in any normal seats. He had us ring side. Which was pretty interesting because we were close enough to have fighters fall on us if they fell out (they didn't have ropes or cages). It was a pretty cool day. Got to meet quite a few other big names.

Now that you brought it up about 81mm round. USMC 0341, 1972 had a round hang fire on a tube at the range. Before that we kicked the base of the tube to try and get it to fire. If that don't work, the gunner is going to catch the round (no mittens ) and the a-gunner tips the tube so the gunner can catch the round. If the round don't come out you call EOD to blow the tube, bi-pods,sight and base plates. We had two base plates back then both cast iron not aluminum like now days. You talking about that brought back such fond memories of not having to ever clearing the tube.

At the end of basic training, like the night before we graduated our drill sergeants called us all out and made the soldiers that they knew were doing impersonations do them for the entire company. They laughed, we laughed we all got smoked for laughing. Good times.

Just have to add this, as a former 11C. Yes, you hit the tide with a hammer 3 times if the round gets stuck in the tube. Then let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse and repeat two more times. If that doesn’t work, then you remove the firing pin and tip the canon. Once you reach horizontal there’s no turning back. The ammo bearer catches the round and takes it to the dud pit. Though the ploop noise is normally a short round, meaning it didn’t firing correctly so you run as fast as you can away from the firing line in the vain hope the exploding football doesn’t kill you and you squad. And remember, knowing is half the battle.

Tabasco is literally what we sell the tourists. They do have a chipotle variety I 10/10 recommend for chargrilled oysters, though. Other than that, Texas Pete's good, as is Crystal Hot Sauce, Louisiana Hot Sauce, and Panola are the real 🔥.

Former 11C here, yes, we did use a rubber mallet to dislodge hung rounds. It's one of the first steps taken before attempting to extract the round with the extractor tool. Misfires on a mortar range will make you think about the choices that led you that moment.

A.c. I bought a house a few years ago supposed to be turn key move in. Was not. A complete gut and some blood sweat and tears later I finished it with little to no help from anyone. Said I would never do it again. Then last December I closed on another house. I feel your pain. It’s hard to do when you work in a different field. 1...Apocolypse Now...I mean COME ON!!! 2...I had a 'battle buddy' rat me out to another DI that I did a good impression of one of our Drill Instructors (a.k.a. "Ice Man") during our "talent show" (a.k.a. DI's finding reasons to PT your ass into dust for giggles). Of COURSE they called him over to see. I think the next week was spent in a lactic acid haze as I did an extra hour and a half of PT in the "Torture Chamber" every night. 3...You two need to collab more!
