Catch can worked for me. No more smoke on my N12. PCV replacement did not seem to do much for me. Very very important to not full mini past halfway on dip stick. My catch can was gulping oil until it hit 1/2 mark then started catching very little oil.

What is a catch can? Do you have any videos on this?

LOL... the start of the how to was great... I thought someone died... mini owners have this passion for their metal family member... Great video... thank you.

Video came up in my algorithm. I changed mine for a cheapo Amazon special on my N18 years ago and the car ran terribly. It looks like you may not have the same plastic clips as mine which snapped very easily. In the end a new 3rd party rocker cover was the order of the day. I still burn some oil which I believe to be the valve stem seals, but it's a £600 job to get them changed

Hi there and thanks for the comment. Yes I’ve since changed the rocker cover gadget which is what’s happening in the latest video. It seems to be an ongoing mission but one thing for sure is the rocker gasket definitely needed changing on mine. Dare I say it the car seems to be running okay at the moment. What year would yours be?

@Midlife MINI Mine's a 2010 R60 Cooper S Countryman so effectively the same as the LCI R56 3 door. I had a 10 plate (pre LCI) with the normal Cooper 1.6 engine which ran well for many a year but eventually got sold due to ongoing issues with oil consumption and water pumps. The valve stem seals apparently harden and oil gets past them - the Countryman has had a strange rough/booming start perhaps 1 in 4 times ever since I bought it in 2015. No fault codes ever log so I can only assume its oil dripping into the combustion chamber or something, causing an initial rough idle. Hope you get sorted anyway but yeah, rocker cover gasket is a good and simple starting point

@@boejoss thanks for the info. It’s strange as it’s mainly on idle that it smokes. Did you find the same?

@Midlife MINI I took the car in for a new AC condenser at a BMW indie and it was them who pointed the smoking at idle. This is a good video to explain it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kAH-Cb7q84Y.html

I Love my mini!! Just wished I’d bought one that was stick. Automatic is bland. Unfortunately here in the states is difficult to find cars that are standard.

Likewise. Great cars excluding the warning lights and various issue 😂. Yeah I’d imagine an auto to be a little bland tbh
