Living in the desert I'm starting to favor fruit forward scents as I find them refreshing. Going to have to pick up some SoCal Hipster! Agree with others, liking this series...the want list is growing fast.
Awesome series you got there.. love to see remaining brands top 10! Maybe next venture be brand week. One whole week using same brand top soaps everyday
Awesome video Chris , I’ve still to try a lot from a&e. I own 7 of there’s and my favourites are So cal hipster Forbidden fruit Monte Carlo Asian plum Vacanza romana Kaizen I have which ones pink but that isn’t on my list. Take care Chris 👍
Chris, I must agree, I feel like all the soaps are starting to smell very similar to something already produced. I own almost every Ariana and Evans soap as well as almost every soap produced by The Club. They are all starting to smell very similar little disappointing in my opinion. Super big fan of the Kaizen 2 base Pete is producing, I just wish the scents would switch up.
I've been thinking about the costs involved in this hobby. I put in an order for maybe $200 all at once, and it seems like a lot, but then I don't put in any orders for a good solid year after that. It works out to about $15 per month. Now, I'm spending slightly more, but let's say I splurge and it goes up to $25 per month. That is a great poor man's hobby. Compare it to anything else. Driving luxury or Sports cars, home decorating, having a nice backyard, like a pool, Sailing, Boating, Flying prop planes, foreign travel, RV Camping, eating in restaurants, drinking Alcohol in bars, Hunting, Computer Gaming, etc. You'd probably be hard pressed to find a hobby that is cheaper, unless it is reading books from the public library or something you turned into a business. Also, I don't think IBCBD mentioned in the video that Maggard has A&E samples for $3.60 each. They even have little stickers that mimic the look of the full size jars. At 10mil, each sample is 1/12th the amount you would get in the full size jar. Now, some people go overboard. They buy more soaps and creams then they could ever use in their life, and the smell will probably wear off before they get to them. They buy high-end brushes. They collect straight razors. But, you can enjoy this hobby and not spend anywhere near that and still try a whole bunch of new stuff, all the time.
@@fruitarian I just spent more on soaps than I should. Especially because it takes me a good 6 months to a year to finish one and I have some I haven't even tried yet
@@aisback1990 I go through them quicker than that. I shave my head. Maybe, you shave around a beard or something. I guess you can try to prioritize using them based on the smells you like the most. I do that, too. I buy more than I need. There might be a subreddit where you can give some away, if there are any that you don't like. Otherwise, apart from the scent diminishing, they should last for decades.
OK, maybe my collection is just lacking. While I don't have as many A&E as PAA, I don't have any of the ones on this list either. My favorite A&E soap is Vanilla de Tabac.
@@IAMCDB interesting fact is that when you buy imitation vanilla extract at the grocery store, they make that with oak. Oak contains vanillin which is why whiskeys and wines often have vanilla as a prominent note in the flavor and scent profile. There could be any number of reasons that the other scent compounds you associate with Bourbon didn't come through for you. You might remember I mentioned I make booze for a living. 😉
Loving these top 10 vids. The only A&E I have is socal hipster. Ide like to try the Asian plum, st barts, chocolate, and undersea. Sample time for me! Yaaayyy!
Favorite 10 Soaps By wheelchair larry in these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia. It saves me time and Money. Happy New Year. Your Mileage may vary?
I've only tried one A&E soap, the which one's pink, which at first smelled too grandma-y for me, but I got used to it. I still don't know how all y'all try so many soaps... they last so long.
@@firecured1701 samples are a great route, then only thing is if they sit too long they start loosing their scent. That’s why we tend to have piles of tubs of soap lol.
Hi Chris! Unfortunately, I don't own A and E so I can't comment on my best soap. However, I still got a kick that your #1 A/E is Undersea with the terrible label. Like I said when you first reviewed, it is a yucky label.
Great picks! I should really use that Asian Pear, Undersea, graveyard, amber rose sometime. My phone is outta commission. just my luck as I shot a video, and got the carbon CX in today with nothing to record with. Well, I guess i could use my company phone or laptop, but not worth the hassle. Stay safe and healthy.
My top A&E soap is Khalifa, hands down. After that, it's Signature, Amy, NYC, Peach and Cognac, Undersea, St Bart's, Forbidden Fruit, Pedro Fiasco, So Cal Hipster, Ouddiction, and Black. But the list surely doesn't end there, but those are the ones that I can rank from top on the way down the list! Have a great day and stay safe!
I like this series, hope you do more. My favorites from A&E: L'Orange Verte, Peach & Cognac, SoCal Hipster. Undersea would have been great but the marine note just doesn't appeal to me and I love aquatic fragrances
I am digging the top 10 CDB offerings from particular brands. Keep the series going!! I only have 4 in my den with matching splashes from A&E in no order, Vetiver Magnifique, Monte Carlo, So Cal Hipster, and Asian Plum. Love all of them!!
I new the number 1 before clicking on the video lol. Great list! I have 4 A&E soaps and none were on this list... goes to show how many great scents Peter has.... I gotta say, Khalifa is an unreal scent.
I got like 30 different A&E/The Club scents. Probably 27 of them are absolute bangers. The Warrior of the howling fjord, peach and cognac, undersea, Kaizen would probably be my personal faves. Performance is top notch as well.
Man, A and E has the best selection of scents that I like of any artisan. My top 3 S.T. Barts, Canabliss Santal, Monte carlo. Great list, Id like to try that Grecian Horse. Have a great day.
I don't own, nor have I tried, any A&E soaps. I have limited storage space and, with the number of Canadian artisans, I'll probably never get to A&E. Nothing against A&E or Peter, though; I only hear good things.
Getting right to it...and right off the top of the dome... 6. The Novelist 5. Grecian Horse 4. La Cosa Nostra 3. Hedonisme (re-released as 'Monte Carlo')(Dior Sauvage dupe) 2. St.Barts 1. Cocoa Lassuria (think, a classy, somewhat boozy, date night version of Terry's Orange Chocolate) There's a few honorable mentions, such as signature, for one, but I started to feel that there was a familiarity between a number of scents. Almost as if there was a specific base, that was followed up with tweaks, like fragrance flankers. Great scents regardless though. I really want to try Khalifa.
Just picked up Vanille Vendetta - I like it.. my 3rd A&E soap. Any thoughts on differences between VV and Signature? I’m thinking about picking up Signature and thinking perhaps I can just go with the splash instead of the set. Is Signature much different than VV?
Peach and Cofnac, SoCal Hipster, and Kaizen. I have 4 others that are just middle of the road for me. But the 3 listed are amazing. Chasing the Dragon would probably be number 4.
Another awesome video always a pleasure watching you Chris thank you for sharing your favorites. Hope you're having an awesome day take care God bless you too.
These are reakky fun video Mr. CDB. Thanks for sharing your expertise. I have not had the pleasure of trying anything from this company. Maybe one day. I try not to buy until I titanic a tin now so I have a few left on hand. The WSP soaps DO NOT end though so it night be a while lol
Nice list. I have had some samples that were sent to be Rabat were great but ironically I have never bought a A&e soap but at some point I will. Stay safe.
I tried my new SoCal Hipster today and oh man what can I say about this soap ... I know A&E has quality products but this smell ... have no words ... gets on my top 3 real easy . I am glad I trusted you , your reviews are always on point anyway .
Hi Chris, before even watching I knew your number one scent haha. Great list I need to try some of these .....pfff the wishlist keeps growing haha thanks for sharing
IAMCDB fantastic support the shave channel. Loved American shave Man. Nice job your favorite. I like competitions please more more. Thank you Master specialist shaving.
@@IAMCDB Good shave but strong vanilla clove smell like spice cake and never really smelled any tabacco.Other than the smell it gave a great shave,I need to find a store if I want the fragrance soap I prefer because the soaps are reaching 27 tubs. However I do find this soap non irritating as far as the essential oil causing slight burning sensation when face lathering which is a plus.clove, vanilla and oddly familiar to spice cake is what I smelled.
@@IAMCDB I loved the peaches and cognac, tertius gave you that nice new leather smell in car, spartacus was a nice manly smell, under the sea was interesting and liked it,revolution I can't quite place it kinda peppery.Yeah I went too far in the rabbit hole for soap smells I think. Oh forgot Chocubana I like but I craved chocolate brownies and cake.
Barbiere sofisticato reminds me of a more powdery brut, I love it so much! Mixing a little socal hipster with Spartacus is kinda fun. 🤣 the undersea label lol. Great list!
AFA soaps r concerned A&E r top notch, but u think their ASs r as good (don't get me wrong sure they r good, tabac's AS is good but not as good the soap)
I have Cuban Highball, it resembles a Mojito drink. I have The Undersea as well. I like the old label very much, it is made by an artist. I think Peter Charkalis listens to you very closely because The Undersea now comes with a new label, beautiful art as well. There is one thing I don't like about A&E soaps. Peter Charkalis fills the boxes only up to 50%, why not at least 70%. The price is quite steep, you should expect more quantity considering the price. Stirling and PAA do the filling up much more generously. Chris, if you see or speak Peter Charkalis, tell him please to put more soap in the boxes. Thank you and have a nice day.
Hi Frank. He didn't change the label because of me:) He has leased the use of that artwork for a period of time and it ran out. The fill of the soap container is based on weight. I don't know how they measure it but he fills it to whatever amount is stated on the tub. I will mention your comment to Peter though. Have a great day sir!
Great Ariana and Evans top 10 list, Chris! Although, this list tells me that I need to up my A&E game. :) Emerald Moss! Yes, Mr. Charkalis needs to bring that back in K2. I don't think there's a fougére type scent in the current lineup, is there? Cheers! -Rob
Thanks for the list Chris. A & E are a super impressive artisan, and do have few of their soaps. As you rightly say fragrance preference is so subjective for example i love peaches and cognac but my wife doesn't care for the scent at all. There was no surprise on your favourite!
