I have used Rubio Monocoat before and I could not agree more. It is the best with ONE DRAWBACK -- the smell. You need a place to let this sit for 32-48 hours to dry and outgas. I applied mine with a lint-free terry cloth towel after trying to brush it on with a foam brush. The foam brush did not work well. The liquid is kind of like maple syrup and it just doesn't brush well (in my experience) however, a small (2.5" x 2.5") terry cloth towel can be used to rub and massage the clear coat in.

That finish looks amazing- very rich looking. I'm having an issue and wondering if you (or anyone) could share your thoughts. I recently bought a mid century chest of drawers. when putting one drawer back in, I hit it on the other door face and marred it just a little bit. It has a small 1/4 x 1/8" mark- looks almost natural wood color (drawer fronts are wood veneer.) I noticed if I touch the area with a damp rag, it looks 100% normal (until it dries, then it gets lighter again.) Should I very lightly sand and attempt to stain that very small area (will never match 100%), then shellac (I am shellacking the whole thing- top looks great) OR, should I just try to shellac over it and hope it stays looking good. Would that restore it back to the dark color? The shellac is dewaxed, blonde so clear. Again, even water makes it look back to 100% original (until it dries.) Also, what grit should I use to sand the veneer drawer fronts before shellac- 1200 or 1500? I want to be very conservative. I heard some even use a brown paper bag. Thanks!
