My interpretation is that these are supposed to essentially be playable Reddit r/NoSleep stories where the story isn't told so much as you play it. As a concept, it seems genius. Hopefully, the devs iron out some of the gameplay quirks as they go. Minor spoiler: You can also open the front door when you go to get water before your mom texts you for another ending, which actually got me more than the "bad" ending with the guy in your parent's room.

This reminded me of a story where someone was quietly but insistently tapping on the glass in the living room. It turned out to be a neighbor, who whispered that someone else is inside the house.

In case anybody is wondering how the intruder got into the parents room, it’s actually hinted at by a series of events. When you eat your lasagna, you can first see him at the stairs walking up, this is backed up by the fact that they went in through the back door which is left open. Once you are done eating that’s when he enters the parents room and hides.

Shame they couldn't get Macaulay Culkin back for this one.

The VHS point you brought up is one that's honestly bothered me a lot lately. I think it's overdone. And I don't mean it's not effective; it still is. But I think it's so ubiquitous that horror games have started using it without actually stopping to ask if it makes sense. The most egregious example I've come across was No Players Online. I don't expect everyone to have been as bothered by it as I was since I'm a retro-FPS enthusiast, but I think it's fair to argue that the VHS aesthetic simply made no sense regardless of whether you were bothered or not. The game presented itself as a 1999-2001 era deathmatch game in the vein of Unreal Tournament or Quake 3. Precisely no game from that era used VHS font and the scrummy visual artifacting is simply not how older graphics looked, ever. The excuse that it was an old recording also doesn't fly since the game is obviously set much later, long after the multiplayer community for that game died, which if we're being generous would be the mid-2000s at the earliest. By which VHS would not have been the chosen medium to record the interaction, and who _would_ record themselves playing on a dead server anyway? This tangent is all just to point out that the VHS aesthetic is getting to the point where I could say the style is being _abused_ without thought put into if it makes sense or not. Sadly I think this game here is one of those too, that just uses it without questioning it.

You missed the creepiest subtle spook in the game. You shouldn't have looked away from the back hall area while eating the lasagna. 6:40, it's a good one of those "corner of the eye" things, I was waiting for your reaction to it since you were paying attention then you jerked your camera away at a non-existent person outside.

The VHS look is because it’s a horror cliche, even if it’s in the modern day lol.

I really like the details of the Graphics of the game just like from Chilla's Art Retro VHS style. It's not even bad the problem was the brightness and contrast but still playable as it is. Back to Garry's mod, i wasn't checking the Workshop page for any scary maps to play with, but i do remember some comfy maps like Gm_fork night which it is a Halloween special map and it does look scary. Also merry Xmas...

I do want to say that I am really enjoying your videos. More than you could possibly know. Being a dad and caretaker doesn’t afford me any time for friends but your videos are like a friend that playing a game while I watch. I thank you for that.

Yeah the vhs filter... would makes sense if it had some context, is the game time line base in the 70's? 80's? 90's? or even the early 2000's? or if it's the modern times the person found his parents old retro video camera from 1999 or 2002?

2:40 there is no contradiction in here. The prospective is from that time-line, but the story was taken from a 20XX reddit post. An after-the-fact narrative.

It seems to me that the Fears to Fathom series takes place in the summer to fall of 1984. The episode about the Clapper is explicitly stated to take place in November 1984. Maybe their world is 40 years ahead of our timeline. However, as I watch, I realize different episodes take place at different points in time. Home Alone (not to be confused with the 1990 classic Christmas movie) definitely takes close to the present because they mention cellular text messaging and an Xbox, along with Mario Kart. I'm thinking Y2K to mid 2010s.

A lot of rural areas have out of date tech, I still know people in 2022 that still use VCRs to watch their old VHS tapes, they've yet to make the jump to more digital media despite having iPhones and the like. Perhaps that's what the VHS effect is supposed to represent? The place this game is set in doesn't seem very rural tho.

I watched a RU-vidr called Skorpi play episode 2 of this! Its a pretty cool game, but a strange one though. You can tell the developer put a lot of effort into the episodes!

This one is interesting just for the fact that this very closely resembles my old neightborhood, and even almost exactly the layout of my old house (except this one is oddly stretched in proportions, and lacks a bathroom or basement for some reason). Otherwise the resemblance, though not the wall colors, is uncanny; my study was this kid's bedroom. Makes me wonder where they get the blueprints for these constructs or if it's just like "generic suburban house asset #23"
