That statement by Robin had to of embarrassed the mom when she saw the video. I bet the bride didn’t like it either. What was Robin’s point other than shock appeal? I like Robin but that was not becoming of her. Just my opinion. 🤗

Tbh.. In this case where it is her daughter's wedding and her daughter will pay for the dress.. Then Robin is right.. She has to follow the bride.. And here in Philippines.. Younger generation of Filipinos are becoming less traditional... And the dress thing.. Thank goodness that is not prominent in weddings now

@@marcysikes it's TLC, they always edit their videos for shock appeal and entertainment. I personally don't see anything wrong with what Robin said, she was just speaking facts. As a bridal consultant, she has to prioritize the bride- no matter how demanding the mother is.

She seems to be an obedient child, along with her sister. Obedience is highly prized in the Philippines, since it connotes respect for elders. It is ingrained in the Filipino psyche that disrespecting one's elders is not only maleducation but insensitivity to the latter's feelings and self esteem. So you grow up trying not to cause this offense, like her sis says. There are cases of such offense being sensationalized, and more often than not, the offender earns public ire.

she said, i'm gonna buy it, which was pretty emphatic. she drove the point home - my choice, i'm paying for it, end of story. my take on the parents/grandparents etc is that their opinion is considered valuable regardless of who's financing. the input of significant others aren't worth more or less, because they are or are not paying for the dress. it's just respect on all sides.

She asked her daughter if she liked the color then told her that if she wore it she wouldn't seem pure. Nothing to do with sentence structure.

If she's a dress maker she knows what brides all over the world and modern brides (her customers) wear. It's not the same. This is a traditional conservative older person. They don't understand fashion.

Problem was she left the Philippines decades ago, when the Princess Di dress was the rage.

Well that’s how a lot of abuse victims act. Sometimes they think they are the problem and they HAVE to make them proud. It’s super sad.

This is so easy to say when you haven't been abused your entire life. The first bride is lucky and strong to be able to set boundaries. It's only through therapy and effort that most abuse victims (especially of narcissistic abuse, like the mom there might have inflicted) can set boundaries and regain control of their lives.

The two sisters are stunning, nothing like their parents.

I agree with you, the third dress was gorgeous on her and it was a shade of white just not pure white white. Sometimes moms need to step back and let their daughter make the choice especially when it is their wedding dress. I didn’t get the dress I really wanted but that was more because of the sales person who was rude and disrespectful because I wasn’t a size 6. They didn’t have samples in the larger sizes and she couldn’t have been bothered to even take my measurements so I could order it. I found a dress at a different store who ordered it 2 sizes larger and even with alterations it did not fit properly. It sucks when you don’t completely love your wedding dress.

If anything, her mother really missed the mark on when she should enforce her opinion and when she shouldn't, especially in public. I stopped being a "good daughter" after I graduated college. After that I have been living my life on my own terms. I married without my parents (the horror, since I'm the first born), I married a man who lives as far away as possible (hello, Norway!). I choose to be child-free. I phone them when I want to (read: max 1x a month). Yes, it's still shouting matches when I call them on the phone. They're strangers to me and the whole neighborhood thinks I'm not a good daughter. I don't care. I lived my life after their own bidding the first 21 years of my life. It's time to decide my own path.

Filipina here and I know the feeling. As a result, I am living alone and paying my own bills since I was 19 years old because I didn’t like feeling I was being controlled by other people. It’s not easy but you have to make tough decisions in life if you want independence. I hear this complaint a lot from other Filipinos but none of them are ready to give up the security provided by their parents and start living their own life in their own terms. If your family is affecting you so much then do something about it. You’re an adult; live it the way you want to but be realistic about it. Either live with your parents and be provided for or take the risk and start living alone. The choice is yours.

I sympathize, but I don't get why immigrant parents are surprised that their kids are strongly influenced by the culture of the adopted country. You have to expect that.

@@pazza4555 Maybe the kids could help their parents out instead of mocking and disrespecting their culture. And the kids (once they grow up) should have enough knoledge to expect the parents to be in a hard situation facing a totally different country after sacrificing so much just so their (completely spoiled) kids would have an easier life than they had.
