I like to think that in Remake the devs were like "okay, smart guy, overflow this" and gave Barret a billion tiny attacks for his fight command instead.

If anyone is curious, Vincent's ultimate weapon formula with max kills yields a significantly higher number 255(65535/128 /10)+10 than Barret's formula with max KotR 255(4000000/10000 /16)+1

Reminds me of playing Mystic Quest many years ago and underflowing the Dark King to death with Cure good times

I love the way that they used a signed integer for the damage calculation, but then didn't use negative values for healing, making the need for a signed integer entirely pointless :P

First you say you need to overflow the integer by getting over 2 billion something damage and then later say that you're only actually doing 262,000 damage, what's the deal with this?

Lol I know I'm kinda late to the party and highly doubt you'll see this but damn it man. FF7 is my favorite FF game and quite possibly my favorite game in general. Here I thought I've seen and heard it all. Thought I figured everything out about this janky ass game I love so dearly and then boom. It's 2017 I randomly spot one of your vids about glitches and oddities. It kinda blew my mind and showed me how little I knew about this game I claimed to love so much. So I continue watching all the tutorial videos on the game and honestly this one is the one that breaks me. I finish this video and I just sat there thinking to myself. "THE FUCK HAVE I EVEN BEEN DOING IN THIS GAME!" It rekindled a dying flame this game has had for easily over 8 years. Like don't get me wrong I'll play through casually at least twice a year. But seeing this awoken the power of youth in me and as I'm writing this out to you I'm listening to the opening credits of Final Fantasy VII. But this isn't going to be no casual play through. I'm digging in and I'm going to do another max everyone and materia run. The last time I've done this I was 15 going on 16 no job no responsibilitys (other than maxing the fuck out of my team) and an entire summers vacation. Yeah times may be a little different now. I have a job and multiple responsibilities, but I have to much damn pride and after watching this and not attempting it would be just disrespectful to the game I've loved ever since I was a wee lad still trying to figure out the differences between the buttons on the controller! Honestly once I get there. Once I complete my quest of redemption, I might even upload my video of the crew in all their glory. So wish me luck you inspiring bastered as I begin my journey. Lol you can tell I'm serious about this when I already have everyone's name already determined xD. It is very unlikely the game checks if enemy health overflows since it doesn't do it for damage. Here's a better explanation: subtracting INT_MIN from any positive int will overflow it and result in negative int. Since negative health < 0 -> enemy ded. The reason why overflowing damage can one hit enemies and plain old high damage can't is because it's less than max dmg.

Just a quick question, could you get the overflow glitch to work with chocobuckle if you ran away from enough battles?

Fun Fact: the cap in Warframe is 2,147,483,635 or so, just shy of the top you can test this with a rubico (get a combo w/ a crit chance and crit damage riven (ms is nice too), with banshee's sonar (get the augment so all the sonars will ping on ONE target in the simulacrum), a button to spam energy and your sonar ability, and a lot of luck. Also you can do it solo, and it's very easy once you know how to do it and have done it before.

O man I used to give limit break to all character and the ultimate weapons from start of the game and it was fun.

I found a few days ago that you could perform something that's maybe a bit similar/related to this regarding HP and materia effects. If you load a large amount of materia with HP -10% effect, the character will drop right down to a max HP of 10. Then when you equip another materia, the game shoots your HP back upto 9999 rather than giving it a negative value. I wonder if this is the same quirk of FFVII coding in action?

@4-8Productions it appears that the reason the damage shows the different letters and such is because when you translate ascii (or if they aren't using ascii it would be translated much the same) to character from damage number, you simply decompose (usually a logarithmic function) each of the place values as a single stand-alone digit and add 48 to it. Upon decomposition of a negative number you can overshot and undershot in predictable ways different characters within character set. You get graphical glitches due to rendering junk. I bet if you find the pixel bounds of the damage textbox you can simply search memory using the data shown to locate where exactly it pulled from. Fun stuff.

I did an Overflow glitch recently, 60 hours into the game, used Barrett with 3 KOTR maxed, 2 W-Items maxed, Hades maxed and Deathblow + Steal maxed. 255 attack, 4 hero drinks + deathblow and he is overflowed. It doesnt take that much time to be honest but Overflowing with Vincent might for sure.

What if you could like junction 3 materia together, and do like- Steal-Quadra-Magic-Steal-As-Well so you would like- steal 5 times. That would be so cool.

I won't say with 100% certainty that increasing the HP on something that doesn't throw up a healing flag doesn't cause a death trigger as I haven't looked at the code, but if you are increasing their HP by the max int value, it would cause a stack overflow on their HP due to it being so high and sending it into the negative which causes it to die.

I first encountered the Overflow Glitch in Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. At the final boss you can have Benjamin cast Cure on him. Cure heals the final boss for so much that it overflows into damage, instantly killing him. But don't try this with Phoebe. Her Cure spell is so powerful that when used on the final boss it'll overflow into damage, which will then overflow a second time, fully healing him.

Because the underwater materia doesn't grow levels, it can be used for the overflow because it just accumulates AP

Did you get around to doing a save editor tutorial video for FFVII and is there one for PS4?

Id be curious if you can overflow Ruby if you hit him right after using Hades, since that temporarily drops his defense stat.

You can also use Underwater Materia instead of maxing Knights of the Round, since AP can grow indefinitely on it.
