Anyone else bought Garmin Vector 3 or 3S pedals and enjoyed them for 4 months but then replaced the batteries only to find that the infamous dropouts was here to haunt you, me too.
Luckily a new battery board and cover seemed to have fixed the issue.
Any questions, please comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks for showing the old parts as well as the new parts so that the viewer can ascertain whether their new pedals have the new or the old parts.

I have heard there are other batteries to use. Good to hear they work, thanks. The new battery covers still seem to be holding up for now 🤞
@scottheitmanmarinesurvey3557
New pedal hardware only worked a few weeks. Then the pedals started dropping out again. Going to try dielectric grease
@JackLeighJCL
@JackLeighJCL Год назад
Sorry to hear they're still not working. Let me know how the grease goes. My pedals seemed to worked just fine with the new hardware but sold them at the end of last year as I started racing.

What did you do with the 2 black circular rings? My kit didn’t come with instructions.
@JackLeighJCL
@JackLeighJCL 3 года назад
I didn't use them, I just swapped out the battery cover. I believe they're spare parts like the yellow rubber rings, incase they need replacing

Jack, any idea what the 2 rubber washers are for???

Hey Jack, thanks for the video. When I screw the cap on, it doesn’t seem to tighten to a stop, i.e. when I continue to tighten it, it seems to lose the thread and loosen again. This means that it falls out while riding and therefore I can’t use it outside. Any tips?
@JackLeighJCL
@JackLeighJCL 3 года назад
Oh dear that’s not good. Have you checked the threading on the pedal and the cap? Just in case it’s been cross threaded
@sobeythomas6306
@sobeythomas6306 3 года назад
That doesn't sound good indeed. If the threads are stripped, you can try using Loctite Threadlocker Blue
@adamkulchyski
@adamkulchyski 2 года назад
Unfortunately it definitely was a cross threading issue. I had the same problem happen and depending on how long you have had them, Garmin replaced my full pedal set because I was within the warranty period when I made the mistake of cross threading. They always recommend "seating" the thread with your finger tightening first and then use the tool for the final couple snug turns. Hopefully you got yours sorted out. @JackLeigh, thanks for the video.

@@JackLeighJCL I'm having the same issue, however, Garmin won't replace my pedal set because the warranty period is already over. Tried Loctite but it doesn't work properly. Any other suggestions? I've been using electrical tape + loctite but sometimes the pedal disconnects.

What are those stuff that came with the new cover that you didn't use? In the zip bag.
@JackLeighJCL
@JackLeighJCL 3 года назад
They're just some spare parts, you don't need to use them when updating the battery cover. If the seals look degraded then you could replace them with the new yellow ones

I somehow still experience the dropouts despite having the new battery cover. The weird thing is it can work for one hour straight and the longer I ride, the more often I get the dropout message on my garmin. Eventually I end up removing the connection from the pedals cause the message keeps popping up every minute or so. It's a bit a shame I got the dual vector system but I started cycling around only with one-sided because of that issue...
@JackLeighJCL
@JackLeighJCL 3 года назад
I’m sorry to hear that, it really is annoying. All I can suggest is new batteries maybe with some oil on or a new battery cover otherwise if it’s under warranty get a completely new pair. Garmin really need to bring a rechargeable model out.

Hi Dino, I´ve just received replacement battery caps kit, I´m about to install them, but I followed Garmin´s recomendation about using one body CR1/3N batteries and it worked. I´ve been riding for 2 weeks and so far no problems.
@DinoTrackmania
@DinoTrackmania 3 года назад
@@ironmba Thanks. In the meantime I figured out there‘s a different problem with mine. I have the new battery kit installed already. Instead the pedal spindle (if that’s the right word) got lose and a huge gap came up at the left side of the pedal (which is usually only like 1 mm maybe). I am pretty sure I need full replacement of my right pedal or just keep riding with single (left) watt system now... Shame

My replacement kit came with two little black circles and two yellow black rubber circles. No instructions on the garming video of what to do with these. What are they for?
@JackLeighJCL

I believe they're just replacement parts for the battery door
@garethwoodall9985
@garethwoodall9985 2 года назад
@@JackLeighJCL I replaced my door as I got dropouts and contacted Garmin. I thought these rubber black circles were meant to hold the battery snug - but all guides I watch don't use them (even garmin info they emailed me doesn't cover them). I haven't had to change batteries just yet but was wondering if anyone got to the bottom of the black ones (they seem to fit around battery. The yellow ones are obvious what they do.
@garethwoodall9985

Answered my own query found a breakdown on their site of the small parts kit. It lists these black rubber seals as: "Inner and outer spindle seal" - I was worried as the new holder seems to be a lot looser for the batteries. :)

How are the new battery covers doing? Considering if i should get them or if the problems will just come back after a few months
@JackLeighJCL
@JackLeighJCL 3 года назад
For me they're holding up just fine, the real test I think will come once the batteries have been replaced multiple times. As I said in the video though if you have the old covers then contact Garmin to try and get yourself a free replacement.

If you just go onto the Garmin website, you can start a chat with them to organise a replacement part. That's what I did anyway, hopefully they can get you the new part.

You could check the thread hasn't been damaged on the inside of the pedal, otherwise just make sure the cover is straight when tightening

Hi folks, so I have had my Vector 3 pedals for some time now without issues. I now seem to be experiencing similar issues to what everyone else was getting with the battery cover. I have checked both my inbox and spam and can't find the mail Garmin sent out earlier last year with my discount code. I live in Ireland, could someone please share with me the code Garmin sent as I can't stomach paying the price for the replacement. Thanks in advance
@JackLeighJCL

I didn't have one either that's why I just emailed Garmin saying I had the old battery covers and asked for them to send me the new ones. They gave me a pre filled order where I just had to fill in the address. Hope that helps

Garmin suggests to change to CR1/3n batteries. It seems that LR44 batteries tend to expand as they deplete causing the intermittent drops when replaced.
@scotthamilton1054

yea.. too bad to hear... i havent updated my board BUT to remedy the situation you are in, i would take tweezers and pull out the electrical connectors on both the body and the cap/battery chamber insert.. i think they get pushed or compressed and then loose contact with each other when you ride over bumps... this is a poorly designed product and we are taking the heat for it .
@JackLeighJCL
@JackLeighJCL 3 года назад
I tried that along with some cork underneath to keep them out but after a week the contacts had compressed again and I was getting dropouts. New board and contacts still going strong now even after replacing the batteries so all good so far
