I answer all my patron's questions about Sailing doodles and sailing in generally. Specifically in this episode we hone in on a lot of crewing questions. Visit Sailingdoodles.com
I recommend the new boat name of "Ghost Rider", that was Maverick and Goose's call sign and is indicative of both. Those were great dogs and both deserve to be remembered equally.
I’ve been watching you since the beginning Bobby and always enjoy your content. Very happy for your continued success and looking forward to seeing your new boat!!
Bobby have you ever considered doing the loop, whilst waiting on the cat being built. Good way to fill in time cruising down through the US into the Gulf of Mexico.
as a part of glamping doodles, maybe train trips in America and Europe or anyplace that offers an upscale or semi upscale excursion style long distance trip (orient express, etc.)
Check out Gone with the Wynns to get the full story about a hybrid setup on a sailing catamaran. They are ordering a new boat with a hybrid drive. Another built in feature that they are getting is rainwater capture. Also, check out Sailing Uma for information about their sail drive that has a regen feature.
Great Podcast and very informative! Watching your videos and podcasts has really helped prepare me for my next adventure. If social media had been around thirty years ago life for us would have been different. Having been around all facets of boating for 60+ years time has been fun but always wanted to live on a boat. Always had power boats but you have sparked now my interest in sailing. Looking forward to seeing your new boat. Thanks and keep the podcasts and videos coming.
Sailing Uma has an electron boat with regen and I think they keep their batteries topped up and they don’t sail fast. I gather from watching them that the regen technology is much improved. They’ve just spent ages up around Norway and Scotland and in the Arctic circle using regen.
Glad I read through others’ comments first before putting in my two cents worth about hybrid systems for sailboats. It is absolutely the way to go. With enough Lithium Ion batteries, solar panels, underway regen, and oversized alternators on the two diesels, you can get away with eliminating a standby generator and thus saving at least 500-lbs. Gone with the Wynns are having a catamaran built with just these features.
@@pavichapin A largely irrelevant point. The discussion is about regen. They were able to recharge with regen. Bobby isn’t talking about doing away with a generator. But if he can regen while sailing instead of having a noisy generator running that sure sounds preferable.
@@pavichapin You have me confused. You regen the batteries, not the motor. You aren’t running the motor when you are sailing. So the regen only has to top up the batteries for the items that are running while you are sailing. And regen is on top of solar but it also works while sailing at night.
Bob, have you thought about Brady and Bl;ue (Brian's brother and his girlfriend)? They're from Delos and have been off for over a year. Just wodering if they'd fit your plans.
You can use the starlink on the boat but you have to modify the panel by cutting the back out and unplug the motor. Theres videos on it and it works several miles from the coast at speeds of about 25 knotts.
Hey There Steph and crew lol. There’s a RU-vid channel with a nice couple that have a Nordhaven trawler up around Seattle that uses a starlink system mounted to the roof (house version) and it seems to be working well for them even while in motion. Of course a trawler doesn’t heave to and fro and definitely moves slow lol. Anyway I wanted to ask/suggest that you post your videos in chronological order please. It’s become rather difficult to follow along and keep up with the “storyline” and events. Cheers
Chase was my first Golden, naming a boat Chase honors the not only Chase but my love of the breed! Name your boat Maverick to honor him and the breed and know there is no shame in that!!!
@@leesydneyharry7958 When they are sailing, they can turn on regeneration on their system, which will let the prop spin in the water and create electricity through the electric motor. Essentially just reversing the function of the motor. They have an Oceanvolt system and if I remember correctly it can create about 500W while sailing at 7 knots. The great part about it is that it doesn't really reduce speed all that much, since most sailing boats are more limited in terms of speed with "hull speed" than anything. Having a clean hull is also a bigger thing than having regen/non folding prop.
I fully enjoy watching you and I didn’t know you were on Rumble you’re the man I want to be on your show I’m a comedian OK sir I also am ready to ready to go on some adventures I can sail and navigate and also make people laugh you need Comedy to make everyone laugh it could be where the girls are sour on me and hot on you
Hey Bobby - thx for this channel! My question is about that mic boom. From here, it looks like a combination of two different makes, the upper half looks like Frameworks, and the lower half looks like Blue Compass, but I doubt that's true! What make/model is it? (and do you like it?)…
Regen is definitely a thing on EV boats. Thats a big reason EV sailboats are so great. Check out sailing Uma RU-vid. They’ve been EV in a slower boat for dome time. The biggest thing is the right prop vs hull speed etc.
The boat will have a hefty diesel generator to drive the electric motors as an alternative to battery power. Take the time to view or listen to the Doodles Podcast announcing the boat...
It doesn't help to blame the other person! I mean, SURE, it's usually the girls fault! She'll never admit it and sex usually negates everything! "Bless their hearts"! When hasn't a tear or sex made everything better?
How does a 59yo ex-Sailmaker and ex-AUS Air Force retiree sound for a crew. An experienced sailor looking for some long-term adventure. Sorry I don’t currently have a partner but I’m willing to look…ha, ha! If you’re interested give me a yell? Loving your lifestyle, would be interested doing computer/camera work as well.
No info on this podcast Bobby - just a lot of “I don’t knows” You never mention Stephanie or “we “ - only thing definitive is a new cat & you want a good looking couple to edit , eg wife looks good in a thong bathing suit - Hum ??
Are you guys deaf? He mentioned Step more than once She’s there with him. She’s towards back of boat and couldn’t here him when he tried to ask her to say Hi.
On the needing crew to edit subject...... Why not just contract the editing out to someone who is not on the boat? It looks like other sailing youtubers do that.
Bobby it is easy to go this path. Produce quality content. Take the "national geography/ discovery channel concept. Time to move away from boat maintenance concept. Don't underestimate your crews especially Steph. You really need a new approach.
Sorry that it seems like such a fragile source of income. I couldn't take the stress. It seems like at any moment some odd algorithm could just shut every thing down. Yikes.
Did you ever consider buying some rental properties, that could make you financially independent. I'd rather put all my money in to income generating properties and then use that cash flow to pay off loans to buy a boat. Than put all my own money in to a boat purchase.
@@RU-vid_can_ESAD Yea there is always the risk but you should budget for like 15%-20% for management fees. Also stay out of low end properties and try learn what mechanisms help to get better tenants. Another option is serviced accommodation, you will have higher management fees but these days you get websites that automate a lot of the booking processes, if you do it right from the start.
I know you don't read the comments, but you should do more videos answering questions... Also, drop names on who you don't want back on!!! lol The bridge has already been burnt! I'm guessing your ex gf I'M THE CAPTAIN NOW, and the brunette chick that you took to burning man way back when...
Dark Side depreciating very fast. One of the reasons is you show too much boat maintenance in your channel. That' not smart. Engage Steph & your crews to make the videos. The "I've been replaced" video by the Steph & crew is the best. So Bobby, stop being a pimp to get more patreons. That business model is sick & low class
