First buck is on Texas public land!?!That’s a huge accomplishment, congrats dude !!

Congratulations!! Your testimony is very similar sounding to mine, only probably not as bad I’m sure! Women, alcohol, needles and sin… that was my life as far from the Lord as I could get. I am 50 this year, 13 years clean, Praise God! I won’t get into the dirty details, just trust me when I say bad. I’ve been saved and closer to God than I’ve ever been. I DID grow up hunting but that was something else that went by the wayside when I went wayward. Part of my rehab was getting back into the woods and hunting. It impossible to deny God when you’re out there at sunrise and see His light begin to shine upon His creation! It indescribable to those that have never been and a Blessing to those that have! God Bless you brother and congratulations on your first buck!

Congrats. One thing I always try to tell people. They get too hung up on "outside the ears" that is a general reference for a 3 yr old buck. Deers ears grow as they do. Im a taxidermist so I deal with deer all the time that are legal but not "outside the ears" because they are mature. I killed a 6.5yo Swamp donkey in Hardin County that went 140 inches last yr. He was 16" wide but he was not "outside the ears". I think it's good for people to have a good sense of fear about shooting an illegal deer and I know a lot of 3.5 yr old 105" 13 wide legal bucks get passed every year because people are scared that it might not be legal. But I think that's a good thing.

I have a pretty similar story. I started hunting about that same time being in my 30s already. Got my first public land deer, which was a doe, last year and just got my first whitetail buck this year too!

I feel that on having to decide whether the buck is 13 inches or not. I hunt in East Texas as well and I had what would have been my biggest buck ever at 25 yards with fading light and I had to grunt a few times to make 100% sure he was legal before sending it right over his back. With having to check it makes the nerves that much bigger. Congrats on a great buck! Something you will never forget!

Great buck especially for a Texas public land buck. The 13" inch rule here in Texas makes it tough. I've had to watch 2 nice mature bucks walk past me this year because they were not wide enough. Unfortunately the basket rack bucks live for a long time in Texas, spreading their bad genetics. I'm still waiting for my first public land buck in Texas. Just gotta keep tryin, DAD GUMIT !!! 😂

I am very happy for you. And yes inch rules are dumb. So hard to judge at times. Not sure why element crew hasn’t helped you prior to this. But congrats. God is good.

Congratulations. Antler restrictions are good for the age class, but they can bring misery too. I missed a tank of a buck last season in East Texas because he took another couple of steps when he stopped. I saw how tall and how much mass he had, but wanted to make sure he was past the ears. His vitals were wide open when he stopped but his head was behind a tree. I was peeking over my sights around the tree and he was peeking around the tree, I saw he was past the ears, settled the pin and a split second before I let it fly, he spun back the way he came....7 yards, nothin but dirt. Got a real good look at him a few days later, but he didn't present a shot. He was bigger than i initially thought. Am still sick about it. Huge 8, chocolate rack. No sign of him this year.

The rules sure do suck lol in georgia its 15 inches wide and must have 4 and 1 inch on one side or 4 on both sides and i got my first buck on December the 1st of 2023 nice nine pointer its on my profile

Anyone who has a problem with the 13 inch rule can thank all the people in East Texas who had the mentality for 40+ years of "if it's brown it's down" and shooting deer out of season. That thinking got us to the 13 inch rule so that young deer even with inferior genes could live to become mature. Speaking with biologists I'm told the plan is to one day lift that restriction but they are trying to rebuild the heard numbers before they do.

Congrats... Please don't think I'm a hater. But you mention "finding this spot" but also posted the town at the beginning of the episode. Public land hunting is tough in Texas. I'm not saying to stop posting content, but eventually that stuff can come back to bite you. In the fallen state of our world, human nature tends to take the path of least resistance. I struggle with the tension between growing the sport and also giving up areas, but I have seen it come back to bite me repeatedly. Other guys, such as THP, The Hunting Beast, and others go out of their way not to reveal exact areas for this very reason. Please prayerfully consider that in the future, and congrats again!

Outstanding buck!! Especially for your first!! Food for thought, first lite camo is owned by the Chernin group. The Chernin group has donated hundreds of thousands to the democratic party, is strongly anti hunting and is also strongly anti second amendment. When you promote or buy that clothing you are funding the enemy of our hunting culture. Far better clothing options out there that support our hunting heritage.
