Today's video is all about the Z06. October 3rd arrived, and with that, the drop of the review embargo. Immediately the internet was overrun with pictures, information, impressions, and all manner of details about the car. Today I'm going to share my first impressions of the reviews I've watched, share some of the good, some of the bad, and a few things I learned which I didn't know before. So buckle in, and let's get into it!

Awww...Yeah...It's Fredday Again...Ha ha ha! GM Fred, Today's video is exactly why I subscribe to your channel Fred! Simply put, excellent information, educated & well thought knowledge with your personal touch! Well done Sir!!! I kinda took your approach to watching the Z06 video's too! I've maybe watched half of what's out there so far. Savage Geese was really good. I enjoyed Throttle House and Raiti's Rides too! Emelia's new video racing the Z07 against her Ferrari 458 and a Huracan Evo 2 was fun too. Z07 stomped all over both even with bus lengths head starts...ha ha ha! Anyway, really looking forward to seeing what you have in store and your Z06/Z07 press car! Enjoy your weekend, -Shane

Agreed, I'm always thrilled when I meet others who share an interest or hobby (cars or otherwise). It was surreal to be sitting out in rural UT and stumble into meeting several people with as much passion as me for Corvettes!. My pleasure, thanks for the kind words! -Fred

Z06 goals was the visceral driving experience of the ferrari 458 and the performance capabilities of the porsche 911 GT2 and the corvette team exceeded those goals

Fred, To be on vacation and by-chance meet other C7 owners and exchange Corvette stories is really cool! I have watched and re-watched ~15 videos from the Z06 press day and the Z06 is truly impressive. Like you I was happy to hear the comments that the Z07 did well in the rain plus is comfortable on the street. I had Nitto R-compound track tires on our C5R-427, which I also drove on the street. Driving in the rain with extreme care was ok, but I avoided it. I could never do what the videos showed the Z06 did on wet roads. I watched Emelia's video and I have reservations regarding the accuracy of the on-board system for 0-60 times. There are videos of owners using other devices to measure 0-60 and typically the on-board reads lower. I have also heard of videos of Stingray on-board 0-60 as low 2.6. Time will tell once new owners start posting results using both on board and external devises. Regardless, 0-60 is less important than lap times at the track, which is what I look forward to seeing. Your comment about C7 owners bashing the C8, that is every generation. When we bought our C5 and joined our local Corvette club, a few C4 owners pointed out that the C4 is a true Corvette compared to the C5. Just like all the praise for a Z06 and comments comparing it to Porsche track cars, Ferraris, and other exotics, I am sure some of those owners will bash the Z06. However, from my experience at Road Atlanta true enthusiasts don't do that. We all respected each other's rides and relished sharing time at the track. Sully

Ignore the trolls! I think the large majority of them were not going to own a Z06 nor any other supercar. I got the impression that the carbon fiber wheels provided the most noticeable benefit on the track. I don't hear of your latest video unless I look for it.

One thing that I learned, Think Most People know the Carbon Fiber Wheels save 41 pounds, but was Pleasantly Surprised to hear The Carbon Ceramic Brakes Save Over 60 Pounds ‼️ Wow , Huge Saving of Rotating Weight , 1 Final Note with the Roads Around here , I don’t think the Z07’s ride stiffness will be Livable , I’m opting for Z06 WITH Z07 AERO to get softer ride

It’s Friday again, and I’m pleasantly surprised by the new FFT video, it always catches me off guard. Fred, with all the feedback from reviewers I wonder if you are reconsidering the options you previously said you wanted? It seems that the Z07 package is a fan favorite so far and supposedly worth the money. I know I’m second guessing my original intention to get a “standard” Z06. I can rationalize it by promising myself I’ll track it more than I planned to, and the massive discount of buying the carbon fiber wheels and carbon ceramic brakes from the factory vs aftermarket… Phew, this is going to be a long wait.. Anyway, keep up the good work!

I can definitely relate to your post. I have been thinking about this exact same thing. I've decided to wait for more reviews, because the base Z06 did very well on the track too! Mine will see some track time, but will mainly be for long drives and vacation drives! The Z07 package has me thinking about it though...ha ha ha!

Agree with you, JJ. I'm probably still locked into a standard Z06 build, but the pundits are suggesting that NOT getting a Z07 would have us leaving so much more on the table. Plus, and I being a cheapskate spending 'only" $130k on a toy?

I was surprised by so many on the MECF actually not going to get the Z07 option. I think one of the videos felt it was overkill for most divers because they would not be skilled enough to take full advantage at the track. Personally when I am at the track I want the optimum is safety and control. However, for just street use, that is different. The driving where the Z07 comes into play is probably not a good idea for the street anyway. The flip side is that it will potentially increases the long term value of the car. Since for most of us it will be months, even years before we actually own one, we have plenty of time to change our minds dozens of times! LOL

I think it comes down to where you’ll be spending most of your time with the car. For most Z06 buyers, the answer is the street. The Z07 package is totally designed for the track. Those Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires are virtual slicks and would be a handful in the rain. Plus the suspension is stiffer than the “regular” Z06 and Matt Farah was the only reviewer who mentioned how stiff the car was in regular driving. I plan on buying a Z06 myself but don’t need the aero package and carbon wheels to have a good time. I do think the carbon ceramic brakes are awesome and you can still get them standalone. Good luck with either decision!

HI Fred, great video and great content. I'm really looking forward to your upcoming impressions of the car as you dive deeper into the available data! I agree with Jesse J's comment; from what I've seen and read so far, the Z07 is getting all the love (and probably rightfully so), but little if any time is being spent discussing the performance and feel of the standard Z06. I've heard more than a few times the Z07 is a "night and day" difference over the standard Z06, almost suggesting that the Z06 is the sluggish stepchild in the lineup. I'm not planning on getting the Z07 since I have no real plans to regularly track the car, so for an owner like me I'm much more interested in how the standard Z06 performs as equipped with the full wicker extension in place, steel brakes, standard summers tires and forged rims. Hopefully they'll be an honest review with that setup. Did any of those GS owners you met on your trip have any opinions on the C8 Z06? Any converters? Also, if it helps you to have letters/petitions of recommendation to get you into a press fleet car, just let us know! I'm sure you'll have many in your corner looking for your measured, unbiased overview after some wheel time. Very best!
