Hope to get a chance to stand by his statue and have someone take a picture of me there. Can't stand next to the man but listening to his music and standing there is as close as I can hope to get. This performance is Magic. A master course on blues guitar. One of my favorite Stevie Ray Vaughan experiences.

It never ceases to thrill me when a SRV newbie listens to Stevie Ray for the first time. First, they show surprise....then, a facial show of appreciation for his skill, and then, that big, wide, toothy grin of amazement....I think that's my favorite part. And after that, comes the freeked out look of absolute stupifaction when Stevie Ray throws his Strat around to his back and just fucking wails. Absolute bliss.

Unfair to say. What passes as "blues" is probably what has tainted people like this. It takes something like seeing SRV (or BB King or Jimi) to get them the blues that matters.

BB King is quoted saying, “I play the blues in sentences. Stevie Ray Vaughn plays in paragraphs.....” I saw him in concert a few months before he died. That group that he jammed with after the concert that night, all said that Stevie Ray was more than amazing while they were just playing for themselves. They all were in awe of him that night, then he got on the helicopter.......😞

Playing behind his back and singing without missing a note on the guitar.....a once in a lifetime talent, taken from us way too soon. SRV had a "feel" for the blues like no other and his technical skill on the guitar was unmatched. Nobody like him before or since he passed.

SRV made guitar playing look effortless, he was in my opinion the G.O.A.T.. If you watch Voodoo Chile he makes that guitar cry and beg for mercy. His career was so short but the great part of the Internet there are many, many people who are discovering his greatness and appreciate what a GOAT he was, Great reaction.

Stevie was nicknamed The Master of the Stratocaster for a reason. To see the full swing of this man you need to see any live show of his cover of Voodoo child and then Lenny. I believe Life without You at the capital theater has the most unbelievable guitar swap ever. His guitar tech was awesome. Also Stevie with Albert King - blues at sunrise. Student and Mentor swapping back and forth, too cool

Double Trouble is a legendary backing duo. Their ability to watch Stevie and keep up with the changes was amazing. They almost never played with a set list, and Stevie never played the same song the same way twice. They just had to hold that pocket tight and keep up. And they were amazing at it.

The El Mocambo, better known as "the El-Mo", is a seedy old bar in Toronto's Chinatown, dating from 1948. It's not a big place, and before recent renovations, it reeked of old smoke, bourbon and sweat. Yet this little "hole" has seen performances by a huge array of great blues and rock musicians. Some stars got their careers rolling there, and many returned to soak in the vibes after they made it big. Once, in 1977, the Rolling Stones played there under a pseudonym, as "The Cockroaches." This surprise visit became notorious because the wife of Canada's Prime Minister was in the audience and started a brief affair with Mick Jagger, triggering a political scandal and a divorce. I've been there numerous times, and heard magical music by legendary musicians for the price of a few beers. The El-Mo is almost a sacred site of pilgrimage. Legend (unverified) has it that before the present building was built in 1910, the previous building was an informal music venue for Toronto's African-Canadians, beginning with American slaves who came up via the Underground Railway to freedom in Canada.

Srv is the MF’n ZUES of the guitar gods....good god....he makes those who don’t play guitar want to, and those who do, he makes them want to quit--staggering genius, who was discovered by John Hammond, who discovered: count Basie, billy holiday, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and a couple others i can’t remember, but Stevie was his last great discovery (John Hammond was a very, very special person);....anyway, so was Stevie, a MONSTER talent/genius/godhead mofo, and , AND an incredible humble, and kind man, he helped MANY people get sober those last, four sober years of his life, non-famous “normal” citizens he’d meet and became friends with as his AA meetings, and famous ppl too, like Bonnie raitt....Stevie was just too good for this karma earth, god bless him....anyway, great reaction

It's probably been said a million times, but here's to a million and one: you have to check out Voodoo Chile ("Voodoo Child") live too. People who know a lot more about music than I do have said he's the only one to have ever done Jimi justice with his covers. Spoiler alert: on the first verse he twangs the guitar to match his vocals so it kind of sounds like they're singing a duet. In some performances it's more pronounced than in others; it's been said that on stage he never played a song exactly the same way twice. I've also heard that the "wah-wah pedal" he used had belonged to Jimi and was given to him by Jimi's family. What an awesome honour that was!

You should also look at Joe Bonamassa not only because of his incredible blue/rock guitar playing but also his approach to the music business. He has not only built his own independent brand on the internet, he has helped many other young musicians get a start and helped restart other established musicians careers.

Mentioning the "Two Voices" aspect of this song is interesting when you also consider what you said about needing to learn more about the "Blues" genre. One of the "trademarks", if you will, of blues music is referred to as "call and response". The singer sings a phase or "calls" in his "voice" and then the guitar "responds" back to him in its "voice". If you explore blues music, you'll hear a hundred thousand examples of it, it is that ingrained in the style. Hope you take my free lesson and run with it. You won't be disappointed, but you will probably never see a performance like this from anyone else, he is that special. The GOAT, RIP!
