Thank you for supporting this channel! Love you all :)
0:00 Thank you!
0:56 Why did you start your RU-vid channel?
6:22 Just got an internship but I feel like I'm not qualified. Do you deal with imposter syndrome at all?
10:00 Do you like to separate architecture from your other hobbies/leisure time or do you incorporate it in those activities as well?
11:29 I dropped out of architecture school and returned to it at 27 years of age. Is there such a thing as an age criterium when firms are hiring?
12:30 How do you handle irritating/annoying clients if you're just starting in the profession?
15:39 What are the points we should focus on while explaining to jury so that they could understand our perspective more easier?
(IN HIERARCHY)
18:28 Could you give a few tips for undergraduate students trying to enter Universities?
19:25 Is it true that as an architect you'll have to sacrifice a lot of things from your personal life?
21:14 What would you suggest for someone who's taken a 4 year long hiatus from architecture?
25:36 Any tips on how to be a good interior designer ?

I’m not even a architecture student but watched this video to learn more about the insider day to day aspect of the job, and it seems like imposter syndrome is something most students/early career professionals struggle with synonymously across most industries. I can only imagine the pressure of communicating your ideas surrounded by a group of technical engineers. I Really appreciate sharing your experience so openly. Your studio looks like an awesome space to be in as well. Cheers!

I'm fairly new to architecture and I've been asking myself this question : why is every modern building some kind of ugly glass cube or concrete block (like the 10 latest Pritzker award winners)? Is it really because it's cheaper to build (though we have never been richer than today)? Even expensive projects by famous architects end up being a version of that. Why didn't we learn from the things most people find beautiful ? Like I can't pinpoint *why* we went so far in this direction.
@DamiLeeArch
@DamiLeeArch 2 года назад
I just read an interesting article on this 😁 They judge the projects based on a of different variables, including social impact and community regeneration. I think aesthetics has become a small part of it.
@DamiLeeArch
@DamiLeeArch 2 года назад
Most of the projects focus on the functional, rather than aesthetic aspects of the project and money is spent where it actually helps the livelihood of the community! eg. Lacaton vassals project gave residents a full extra living room, rather than beautifying the facade. As a result, they don't give you the best money shot 😁

I couldn't agree more with the first question. The "conventional" approach to Architecture is very outdated. Seeing how the world is changing, and seeing how our Industry is getting left behind compared to other industries makes me very upset, and has me questioning every day whether I should leave, or if it's even possible to change.

PLZZZZZZZZ Do the video about interior designers and architects. I am a student in interior design at BCIT but architecture has been something that really fascinated me. I really want to know your opinion about the two professions, how did you work with interior designer, how was the process, how was the communicating and what was your worst experience with an interior designer loll.

Hi Dami, I would love to see what you have to say about int des vs arch (I have a Bachelor of ID from Canada and am pursuing an M.Arch). I do have to say that your point on ID not having hard constraints isn't entirely correct as we definitely had exams on the OBC and NBC, site, as well as materials and construction! Haha we're not completely clueless on construction design challenges. In my program, we didn't focus on colour palettes or fabric like the stereotype always suggests :)
@ruiyantang9222
@ruiyantang9222 2 года назад
i actually feel the same. we really focused on code and construction in school!!! color and materials are like 20-30% of the project only

Getting right to the BIG and HARD questions
@nanohedron
@nanohedron Год назад
Many countries have aging populations - a grandparent generation that ideally has wealth to share with members of younger generations who step up to be there with them in their later years. Multi-generational homes are rare, but there should be a massive amount of demand for them hitting the market very soon. Is there any focus given to properties that provide the right combination of separate and communal areas? I think that a property with a series of geodesic domes connected by causeways would be very cool. For instance, a central dome with a large kitchen, dining area, and living room surrounded by 3-4 domes with bedrooms would provide a great mix of cost-sharing and privacy for semi-cohabitants.

Advanced Division ------------------------------- The divide between noviceship and professionalism guarantees moving, specific obstacles -- those tools and methods that beg up the ladder of progress. And so in traversing towards some new hypothetical point of vantage, it behooves the student/inventor to listen to a third god in their calculations, and remember the past was once the future. ****

Dami, ... I know most of the time, you are addressing up-and-coming architects, or those that are getting "their feet wet" in the industry, ... but what about questions from "the other side of the fence". I had gotten in touch you before, via comments directly on your videos, and thru email, ... but I was wondering, ... how does a client go about finding the best architect (or firm) for their project, ... whether it be because of a particular architectural style that they're going after, etc? P.S. Get some sleep !!

@DamiLeeArch
@DamiLeeArch 2 года назад
1.Practice before presenting. 2.Kinda weird but it also helps when I think of myself just as a tool or vessel for communicating the information as clearly as possible, and try to think about helping the audience, rather than focusing on myself. 3. I have videos specifically for architectural presentations, so I would check that out. 😊

I too have always wanted to go on a youghurt retreat lol! Yeah Architects don't like sharing, especially with details. Precedent studies would be so much more technically interesting and we would all have been better technical students if those intricate material connections were as readily available as all the pretty final images. But Architects are all like "I suffered therefore you must also suffer", yawn. Congrats on your numbers, upwards and onwards!!!
