This is the best version in my opinion. The hook is from a song by marvin gaye and tammi Terrell with the same title. Fun fact is that meth dedicated this song to his wife who is u god's sister

No. Meth’s wife Tamika and U-God’s ex-wife/baby mama are sisters. U-God introduced Meth to his then girlfriend’s sister after Meth showed interest. They have been together ever since.

In my opinion, this version (the “Razor Sharp Mix” produced by RZA) is the best one. This one was intended for the video, to be played on MTV and BET. The “Bad Boy mix” produced by Puffy was intended for the radio. And of course there is the original (the album version without Mary, produced by RZA). Interesting fact: Method Man never wanted to make a love song for his debut album Tical (he didn’t want to be seen as the ladies man of Wu-Tang) but Def Jam wanted him to do a song for the ladies. Method Man told the executives at Def Jam (Russel Simmons, Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles) that if they wanted him to do a love song, they had to buy him a new car.

The album (Tical) was released in November 94, but the remix was released in the summer of 1995. It went on to become one of, if not, THE greatest hip-hop love songs in history (to this day, it is the theme played in many people’s weddings). At the 1996 Grammy’s, it won the Grammy for hip-hop song of the year.

Another interesting fact: After Def Jam pretty much pressured Method Man into making a love song, he wrote the lyrics dedicating it to his then girlfriend (now wife) Tamika Smith.

I see it like this: the Razor Sharp version is for the streets & the Puff Daddy version is for the clubs/parties. Personally, I favored the Puff version because it sampled “Mona Lisa” by Slick Rick, giving it that undeniable and haunting bounce/swing, and inserted that Biggie sample, which is genius ear candy. That production is all time top tier. Earned both Method Man and Mary J. Blige their Grammy win. In conclusion, yes please, react to this version of one of the greatest hip-hop love records of all time-the lyric video version so you catch the profound lyricism. Thanks for your nostalgic discoveries brother. 🙏🏽💯

This to me is still the best hip hop love song! I always said I would make this my wedding song since I’m such a huge wutang fan lol sadly it didn’t happen. The Puff Daddy version is my favorite to be honest because you have a small line from biggie in the chorus. Plus it’s slightly more upbeat.

The real version is on Meths first album Tical. That version is much darker. The beat is produced by RZA. The song that you reviewed today is the radio version.

Oh, and as far as love songs go, one you should DEFINITELY check out is "Love's Gonna Getcha" by BDP off of the Edutainment album; there's a reason why KRS-One is considered one of the GOATs. Definitely not a traditional love song by any means...more of a cautionary tale. Storytelling at its finest.
