This man joined the Spencer Davis Group when he was 14 years old, Island Records. Producer and founder Chris Blackwell later said of Winwood, "He was really the cornerstone of Island Records. At age 16 the Spencer Davis Groups' first recording became a hit. He moved on to Traffic and Blind Faith, before starting his solo career..

@@theresatrapp4532 The Spencer Davis Group's first single was 'Keep On Running' and Steve was 17 when it was a hit in the UK (I don't know if it was ever heard in the USA). It was followed by 'Somebody Help Me' then Gimme Some Lovin'. I first saw them in Edinburgh when Steve was still 17 or 18. If you haven't heard them, have a listen to 'Every Little Bit Hurts' and 'Georgia On My Mind' - still with the SDG. They're on youtube.

Grammy Award winning Steve Winwood is one of my favorite artists. This is my favorite song from his solo career. This video was shot in the town that I call home; Manassas, VA. The train station welcomes several Amtrak and commuter trains every day, the downtown has nice shops and restaurants and the building Steve is walking in front of is now an arts center. I don't know why Manassas was chosen for the video location, but I am glad it was.

Steve Winwood has an incredible history. He joined the Spencer Davis Group at the age of 14, recording "I'm a Man" at 16. He then went on to join the group Traffic with Dave Mason, where his vocals shone on "The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys." Next came Blind Faith ("Can't Find My Way Home"). His subsequent stint with Ginger Baker's Air Force included just two songs with his vocals and one with him on keyboard. The group was short-lived and produced some good performances but no hits. Finally, he went solo in 1977, producing hits like the one featured here.

My favorite is "The Vacant Chair" that was on the same album as "Valerie." Very beautiful, soulful sound. ❤

Steve has an immediately recognisable voice. From Spencer Davis group to present time, you cannot miss his fantastic voice. A top ten voice of all time for me. Great vid,.

A song of utter joy, as Winwood channels how he got through those slack years after Traffic ran out of gas in the mid-seventies, before he got his solo career going. As excellent as this is, nowadays I can't stop thinking of the poignant cover done by Warren Zevon, after Zevon had his cancer diagnosis and knew that he was dying. Where Winwood is fantasizing about his triumphant return (which he had already achieved when he wrote the song), Zevon is having a bitter laugh at his fate, that he can dream about being back in a world where he knows he'll never get to live this again. Speaking of Zevon facing death, "Keep Me in Your Heart" is a complete tearjerker. As for Winwood, please keep going not only as a solo artist but in the Spencer Davis Group, in Blind Faith, and in Traffic, both with and without Dave Mason. And now that you've shown you CAN go over 10 minutes with a song, let me join the chorus calling for "The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys", 11:41 of perfection.

This reminds me of my very best childhood friend, who unfortunately is no longer here. We listened to Steve Winwood in front of a bonfire in the garden and drank lots of excellet red wine. The entire album brings both joy and tears to my eyes 😥

It's such an understated, yet totally catchy melody. The chorus gives me joy. The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is one of my favourite Steve Winwood tracks (in the group Traffic)

The chorus background vocals are done by James Taylor. I think Steve Winwood's voice, which is amazing blends really well with James Taylor. Winwood is a genius! Thanks for playing his music.

I saw Steve Winwood in the late 90’s at Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. He started Back in the Highlife…they played the intro and Steve accidentally started on the 2nd verse. He waved his band to stop and acknowledged his mistake and started over. He wanted to give everyone what they came for

Everything aside, some songs simply work perfectly. This is one of them.

One thing I like, both about the song and the video, is that to him, the High Life is not a fancy condo in a manhatten high rise, or a fancy car. It's finding connection, having someone special, drink and dance with one hand free, just enjoying the moment, and who gives a flying rip what any onlookers may think of them.
