Glad you enjoyed the movie, Natalie! Definitely recommend the sequel as well. Also, fun fact! 21 Jump Street was originally a television show that started in 1987. Several of the original cast members make small cameos in this movie, including Johnny Depp! Of course, the tv show and the movie are two completely different genres and degrees of gritty and edgy.

I grew up with the original TV show (yes, I'm THAT old! 😀 ) and I gotta admit I was skeptic when I first heard of them making a movie out of it. But I gave it a shot when it came out and boy, I absolutely freaking LOVED it. It was so funny and even if the tone was different from the show and they poked fun at he original show (like how none of these guys look like teenagers) , they also had a ton of such nice nods to the original show. And yes, the cameos were all but subtle and yet they fit perfectly! Perfect "remake"

What I really enjoy about the Jump Street movies is that they don’t take themselves too seriously. Sometimes I actually think they go a little overboard and aren’t serious enough when they should be, but the movies are very self aware so that’s kinda the point. They’re just having fun with it and even poking fun at their own use of different tropes. Like I said, sometimes they’re a bit over the top for me, but I still enjoy them anyways because they’re always good for some laughs and mindless fun. I look forward to seeing your reaction to 22 Jump Street, and when you watch it make sure you watch through the end of the movie because if you don’t then you’ll be missing out on some very, VERY, funny shit. I can’t remember if it’s before, during, or after the credits, but you’ll know what it is when you get to it, I’m sure of that! That said, great reaction as always! You’re one of my favorite reactors to watch so keep it up! I hope you and yours are doing well, and I wish you all the best! Also, if I could make a handful of suggestions for some movies to add to your list, I’d love to see you react to: Stranger Than Fiction (2006) Tombstone (1993) Transcendence (2014) Continuum (2013) Upgrade (2018) Hardcore Henry (2015) Chronicle (2012) Preferably in that order😊

You probably know that Johny Depp was in the original tv show 21 Jump Street, along with Peter Deluise who played his partner here. Many were surprised that Depp did this cameo based on a show he did before he hit super stardom, but he was fully down for it. Despite being a big name, and going for more oddly artistic roles, he's not one to get on a high horse. He even said he would have done an appearance in the Nightmare on Elm street sequel that kind of parodied the movies, since his first role was in the first one, but they hadn't even asked assuming he wouldn't stoop to that.
@Jay-ate-a-bug
@Jay-ate-a-bug Год назад
Depp really just likes to have fun in his roles. He did Kevin Smith's Tusk for free and his only request was that his name didn't show up in the credits, and that he got to use his own make-up guy to create his own character with a penis nose.

The part I like the most in this movie is Rob Riggle (the Coach - Mr. Walters). Along with doing a great job in "The Hangover", he is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve. He WAS a fighter pilot when 9/11 happened, deployed to Afghanistan, saw what was happening, VOLUNTEERED to be re-assigned to a ground unit, then led Marines on the ground in combat. He is a combat veteran having served in Liberia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, earning over 19 medals and ribbons. According to IMDB, "[i]n the film 12 Strong (2018), Riggle plays Colonel Max Bowers, a former battalion commander in the 5th Special Forces Group. In real life, Riggle served directly under Bowers in the opening period of the war in Afghanistan." Big Respect!

That fact that at the beginning you put "21 Chump Street" is hilarious because that's a musical (written by Lin-Manuel Miranda) based on the real life story of Justin Laboy who was coerced by an undercover cop to sell her weed and in return she'd give him "a good time" which is of course entrapment. The court didn't see it that way as the cop lied and so Justin faced felony charges because he "sold" it to her on school property. In reality she forced him to take the money by shoving it into his hand. His life was ruined because of the crooked cop. TL:DR go watch the 17 minute musical called '21 Chump Street'.

I am an 80s kid (Class of '90), and I was a HUGE fan of the original TV series, and I LOVED Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise (son of Dom Deluise) as Officers Tom Hanson and Doug Penhall! That was, of course, both JD and PD, there at the end, reprising their roles from 20+ years prior! Officer (Judy) Hoffs (Holly Robinson Peete), the moto pool officer was also a cameo from the original series! It was, for the most part, a serious cop show! I was absolutely offended and incensed when this movie first came out! I felt like it was making fun of a show I loved! And, of course, it was! (I felt the same way about the CHiPs movie, a few years later!) I hated what they did to the Hanson and Penhall Characters! I do have to say, however, the more I've seen it, the more the film kinda grows on me. Watching it here did make it better! If you do ever run out of things to watch, or are just interested, I'd give the old series a try! It was a bit low-budget, and even cheesy, at times, but, it covered some serious topics of the day!

You gotta make sure to watch the end credits of 22 Jump Street, it's so good.

the guy that's under cover with johnny depp was his partner on the original show. the woman from the motor pool that gave them their car was on the original show also

This movie is based on real stuff that happens, and there was a case in Florida where they had a 25-26 year-old woman officer infiltrate a high school to crack down on drug trafficking

I had an "accidental" stabbing happen at my 18th B-day party. Guy went to grab a steak knife on the table (we were bbq'ing outside), it was right on the edge, he kinda hit it accidentally and it went flipping up in the air, he tried to catch it on the way down, and stabbed himself right in the inner thigh...like a good 4 inches at least. Like an idiot he pulled it right out. Also didn't help he had at least a bottle of vodka in him by then...there was a huge pool of blood within seconds under him. Thank god we lived right by the police precinct, so they were over pretty quick. Even by then the guy was already going pale and loopy from the blood loss. He was lucky we got an ambulance there so quickly. The rest of the party got more wild after...but no one else was super injured. Except a friend of mine almost knocked himself out cold trying to do a full front flip from standing...landed straight on his back on a hardwood floor. It was a fun care free time...

This and the sequels are the best comedies of the 2010's

When I first saw this I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised at how fun this film was. The sequel drops the ball a little bit but is still a good time.

This movie actually came up in the news recently in a weird way. I'm sure everyone heard about Kanye going on Infowars and talking about loving Hitler, but a little while after that he posted on instagram saying that he'd changed his mind. He said that he watched this movie, and Jonah Hill's performance made him realize that jews are alright. 21 Jump Street convinced Kanye to stop being a Nazi. That's a real thing that actually happened, and it just makes the movie even funnier.

He never was a Nazi, just incredibly confused and baited into repeating a lot of alt-right and Nazi propaganda, it felt like he went down a whole rabbit hole with Nick Fuentes on top of his own controversial views and mental issues

This movie was way funnier then it had any right to be. I went into this movie with basement level expectations. A remake of a corny 80's show? Then it was killer and so was the sequel.

22 Jump Street is clearly a must after this. It's really good and darn funny (if not intentionally pretty identical).

so happy you are reacting to this. just one note: hoping the edit of the sequel will be better, you took out the best punchlines in the movie. :(

if the police officers failed to read the Miranda warning, a judge might rule that your statements cannot be used in court. The prosecution might or might not have enough evidence to obtain a guilty verdict.
