Hi! My name is Lena and I am from Arizona! I am a first-year third-grade teacher! Teaching has always been my passion and dream. I am so excited to start this incredible journey as a teacher. I am looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you!

1. What about social distancing?
The desks that our school provides seats 2 students. They are working on getting individual desks. This is what we have so we have to work around it. That is why I have 30 chairs so I can space out the students. Students also have the option of staying online.

Just a tip, you can also fill an ice cube tray with cold coffee and freeze and make coffee ice cubes. That way when they melt your drink isn’t watered down.

you should make a book tracker, you get a big piece of paper and then print out a tiny cover of the books you read and glue them on there so at the end of the year you can see all of the books with your class

One Suggestion. Do fix an area at home. JUST incase your exposed or cases happen at your school and you do start to have to work from home. Last spring was a big shock to some of us that had to teach from home. Having a area ready will help you.

As you go into the new year of teaching. The Hair Love book is much deeper than you think. The mom was not at work. She was in the hospital. She was sick. Probably Cancer which is why her hair was covered with a scarf. It is a great way to introduce inference. The dad was tired from taking care of home, the daughter, and going to see the mom. The mom was a hairdresser and that is why the daughter wanted to do the perfect style. The book is deeper than you know.

Yes, Hair Love is an amazing book! It gives the little ones the confidence to love and embrace their hair no matter what..even if it doesn’t look like the other kids. It’s okay. Awesome job..thank you for what you do! I can tell by one video that you love and enjoy what you do! Keep up the great work in teaching our future leaders! 👏

Awesome first week! Your passion for teaching is so great! I mentor student teachers and you are doing great! Loving your classroom decor and set up! Also.. I love LOOM! I teach senior anatomy and physiology and I used it to record my iPad screen with good notes, images etc and do my “lecture” lessons and the kids could watch and rewatch etc to learn

I could feel your excitement before and especially after your first meeting with your kids! It makes me so excited to get to meet my new students in a couple of weeks. I can tell you’re already a great teacher from when you were talking to your kids- you almost said “your responses” and changed it to “your answers” because you knew your kids may not know the word response yet. It shows how mindful you are of your kids even in the small things, and you are going to do so well this year! I’m excited to follow along for your journey! ❤️

You can add your students to your Google Classroom and all they have to do is accept it when they log in. I teach PE and all students in the school so it took a bit of time, but it was worth it.

With regards to your coffee...if you have an ice tray, make some coffee up and pour it into the ice tray and freeze it. Then you can use iced coffee cubes to chill your coffee... that way it cools it but doesn't water it down.

You can use your tablet or phone as a document camera if you use Google meets on it you can share the screen using Google meets and they'll see everything you want on it and you can use your computer to speak and look at the chat. Also Google meets is updating their platform to add a white board (jamboard) and you can use the tablet to make this work towards your advantage

I like to either freeze some of my coffee or milk in the ice cube trays, that way I get the satisfaction of it being iced but no water once it starts melting

Yes, was JUST about to comment that anchor charts (from what I was taught) are supposed to be created with students. I think the Pinterest/IG/TPT ones are cute, but they are more so hand-drawn posters. Maybe if you continue to trace the shell or "frame" of an anchor chart, and then wait to fill it with your students, then you can get the best of both!

Multiplication is a big part of third grade. This will motivate and encourage them to practice their multiplication facts. For example, once a student masters the ones they can put their initial on the “one” that is displayed. It is a great visual to see how far they have come. Also using initials saves room and does not show their full name 💛

You are lucky. Monday I had five kids online. Tuesday I had 12 students online. Wednesday I had 27. Thursday & Friday had 28-29 students show. I have 38 kids on a Kindergarten roster. It is completely crazy. I had fun meeting them but I don’t know how I’m going to teach them.

Thank you! 💛 With SEL I read First Day Jitters and asked questions about how they are feeling about the new school year. We talked about our class rules/procedures. I did not have a lot of students on the first day, so I was able to talk to all my students and have them share. Later in the week, I discovered virtual scavenger hunts and that helped with a lot of participation. 😊

Teacher tip: laminate student desk name tags and write on them with permanent ink marker. You can erase the marker with rubbing alcohol. This is a life saver when your roster is constantly changing.

We are not sure when students are coming back physically and schools won't allow time to set up when they do. Most schools only give a week before school when we are on a normal schedule. Its easier to get it done sooner, she also was not sure if students were coming back when she did set up
