Yam has become so expensive that everyone needs to do their bits in order to bring down the price. You too can join the revolution when you adopt planting yams in bags.
Another advantage is that planting in sacks eliminate any form of competition between the plants as far as nutrients and water are concerned. Each sack is an enclosed and independent unit that receives its own portion of nutrients, watering. Fantastic idea 👍
Thanks for sharing. I have planted six bags four are growing already. I cant wait for the outcome. I tried irish and sweet potatoes in a jar of water the Irish didn't pull through but the sweet potatoes did. Will be transplanting soon.

I used cement bag but if you can find bigger bags its even much better. Make sure your bags can breath and also allow water to drain otherwise it may become waterlogged and destroy the yam
Thanks for sharing this video is very educating and encouraging. Please I am a beginner, what advice can you give me. Do I need any special sand or any earth is ok, what about fatilizer? Can I water the plant with tap water and is it only in raining seasons that I can plant the yam? I will be expecting your reply, thank you.
It does not take much if you have the basic things mentioned in the video. Yam is best planted during the rainy season but if you can recreate the conditions for it to sprout in others seasons then you may probably be able to plant at off seasons. For soil you can use loamy soil. Though the sand I used in the video was partly clay and partly loamy. Not like it was the best soil to use. It was just what was available to me at the time. Make sure you plant where they can get enough sun. Be careful when applying fertilizer if you are going to use one. If you want to harvest big yams, the yam seedlings must be big as well. Help the yam climb ropes or sticks as they come out. The more they climb, the better the produce. Finally it’s best to plant in bigger bags if you can find one.
No I don’t cut through. If I use plastic bag, I make holes at the bottom of the bag with a nail so it can drain itself to avoid water logging. But if use those dangote cement bags, I don’t make any holes because it has gaps where water can escape from
@@13tv68 Obviously incorrect! In a greenhouse or CEA (controlled environment agriculture) plants grow 365 days year irrespective of seasonal limitations. There really is no magic to the growing conditions or requirements of yams from germination to harvesting anytime and anywhere on the planet that cannot be successfully replicated.
