Had this problem over and over again, had the rack and pinion changed twice and it still came up again. The real fix is replacing the Tire Pressure Sensors. For whatever reason the TPS Fault throws off the power steering assist 🤦🏽♂️ after the TPS were replaced the power steering issue never happened again. Now still running at 220k miles on a 2011 Ford Fusion.
I got a 2k10 mercury Milan with a missing TPS on the front drivers side tire but it’s also reading a bad steering wheel angle sensor as well think I should replace both or just the sensor cause my steering has been out for months
In this situation as we speak. Searching for 4 hours on internet. Quick question.....I've had the TPS light on for like 3 years now. Did it just start for you when those sensors went or did you drive with it out like I have? 2011 fusion hybrid just hit 200k today. What's funny is I text my siblings bragging and then this shit happened.
Everyone needs to file a complaint with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) it is fast and easy. Enough complaints will cause the federal Government to force Ford to recall the vehicle. Ford cancelled the earlier recalls claiming the problem was remedied.
It’s been over 10 years so they wouldn’t recall mine. Had to pay 2k for a rack and pinion, only to have the same problem come back 2 months later. Power steering is out again now 😡
This is so funny. I got in my car today started it and I had lost power steering. I moved the car a little forward and back and gently turned the wheel, but no luck. Turned the car off and went to get a pad and paper to write down what the dash told me. I got back in the car, and put the key in the ignition so I could read the dash and lo and behold the power steering worked. I took a little trip around the block and everything was fine. Needless to say, I will be taking it to the shop. My daughter said I may have to take it to a dealership because there is a recall on 2011 and 2012 ford fusions for this problem.
I’ve got a 2014 as a daily for my wife. This happens within a few days. It’s been in and out of the shop for over a year. It won’t even go 50 miles before it happens again. We pick it up then take it back a day later. For over a year!
Turn on the car.. let it run a little and turn it off and turn it back on. Its electric so you gotta give it some time so it can get the power through to the power steering. 💯🔥 Edit: Also, it could be the battery in the engine. Might need to get a new one.
Yeah that only works for a short time. You’ll have to actually fix it one day soon. Trust me, I’m going through it now. That used to work every time for me but doesn’t anymore.
Same here. My fiance had been doing this for weeks apparently. Went to start the car today and that message came up. She said it's fine just turn it off and on again... nope.. been in this parking lot for an hour waiting on AAA.
@@isaiahyoung8781 I just drove my wife’s home and been driving it and she’s been driving my truck. I’ve tried everything. Looks like it’s gonna be the rack and pinion
@jayteefishing1543 we ended up leaving it, there's so many damn round abouts and traffick on the way home from where we were wasn't sure if it was worth risking an accident. You drove it for a year with no power steering? Or after getting it fixed?
@@isaiahyoung8781 no no sorry lol I meant turning the car off and back on worked for us for about a year. But yeah I don’t blame you, I have 2 turns I have to make from home to work so that’s why I just drove it. I’m not going to fix it. We’re just going to take it and trade it in. Let them deal with it lol.
I had this issue for half a year. Bought a scan tool and just constantly cleared codes until I solved it. My problem was uneven worn tires. The car pulled to the right heavily which the pcsm does not like. After I got new tires, the car drove perfectly straight and After I cleared the codes, it never came back again. So if anyone with this issue has an alignment issue, get that solved first 👍
For this exact problem, i have paid 3400$ CAD to get it fixed my new 2012 ford fusion only 122KMs on it. By the way 5 days later after i fixed the problem came back and its back at the shop again now
Yeah it’s the tires. The dealership got me too for 2500. They replaced the entire steering column only for it to happen several times after that… until I got 4 new tires. Make sure your tire pressure is good. They will lie to get money and it’s a shame.
I do not see how this can legitimately fix the power steering assist fault. Considering after driving my car i shut the car off, take the key out, open the door, close the door and eventually i will end up starting the car again. But i am going to try it right now... ill keep everyone posted.
That will work for a period of time and then stop working all together. I never had problems with mine until AFTER i had them do the steering software recall that was supposed to fix the problem. Ive been driving it for about a year and a half without power steering. The only place its difficult is in parking lots etc. Hasnt been a big problem other than only i drive it, i dont want my wife or driving permit son to try and deal with it.
I have a 2011 Ford Explorer with 71k miles on it. The power steering assist fault eventually stayed on. I put a new rack and pinion in it about 5 months ago, and took it in for an alignment. It is now randomly doing the power steering assist fault again. This is getting annoying. There is still a recall on it, when I looked it up. But it expired in Oct 2022.
You can still turn the steering wheel assuming you don't have toothpick arms. It's dangerous but while in motion the car is still able to be controlled pretty easily.
Soon that trick won't work anymore. Shop fixed and replaced steering rack of my fusion exactly a year ago now it needs to be done again. Spent about $2k on it. Ridiculous!
Wrong. What you have done is reseting the memory and not fixing the problem. The electric powersteering is linked to the ABS sensor, steering wheel angle, transmission speed sensor blablabla. Your case could be just a bad ABS sensor wire when you turn the wheel.
Just be happy you don't have a 4.0 engine. Timing chains go bad and you have to pull the engine to fix. I've talked to a bunch of shops that won't touch it because plastic from the tensioner gets in the engine and they explode. Only good way to fix is get a new engine. Ford sucks.
