Great video Dean, that gearbox oil looked rubbish, I'm glad it went up and down the driveway good and it sounds epic, fingers crossed for the road test 🤞🤞
Ahhh the removal of awkward bits! A mechanic did the same removal method on an engine mount on my van because a bolt wouldn't budge, when all else fails BFI (brute force an ignorance) 👍 Keep the vids coming dean your format is great don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Yourself and salvage rebuilds uk are the best UK car youtubers.
Thanks! Good to hear you like the format, i do worry sometimes it’s not very entertainment based. But I’m on my own and not clued up on editing so not very good at it 😂
@@SavingSalvage don’t worry about the entertaining side of things it’s the getting stuck in part and solving problems and showing how it’s done that’s what I like to see keep up the great work 👍
Like the more in-depth videos first time I had seen an auto box oil change - the stuff that came out looked pretty black so much for this "sealed for life" nonsense the dealers would have us believe! Think you did well to get those voltage regulator bolts out through what looked like quite limited access!
Nice Vid Dean - glad it looks like you got the issues sorted. The sound of that V8 when you test drove it! Just awesome.... love it! I look forward to the final road test!
Great video. Interesting seeing the detail where you can offer it. I understand that it's not always possible but even then it was amusing hearing you explain about bashing the old voltage regulator to pieces, lol.
Love the in-depth videos, the gearbox oil coming out looked a bit ropey, car sounds great,, more longer in-depth vids please Dean, well done, all good.
I really did enjoy watching you doing it propperly! I hope you've got everything sorted now so it's only the tires, great car and hopefully a good affair with a nice profit 😊👍
Really enjoyed that Dean, and well done - looking forward to the road test (seems the “flood damage” might just have been that voltage sensor - if it is, result!) JCHK
Nice hand pump action Dean 😁, 9 litres lol 😂 but yeah mucky yucky oil that looked like crude straight from North Sea. Sounds amazing tone on exhaust and one step nearer to being done , great work 👍🏻.
Great Vid Dean. As these V8 motors get older and move down the SH car chain, the service history becomes more dubious. Spot on with your diagnosis, glad you managed to change the VR without removing the alternator. This will be a very tidy performance motor for somebody Dean. ❤️😎
That is the easiest steering rack to replace I have ever seen :) Black transmission oil.. I would replace it more often than factory recommends. You are a brave man with a light grey sweater working on a gearbox :)
Crack on with the current format. It’s enjoyable to watch👍. If the voltage regulator was fubar then it would cause loads of issues with every system on the car, and that transmission fluid was rank. Good choices on what to do with this car.
You don't need to turn the engine by hand in order to expose the torque converter's drain bolt. The way I do it is using a big flat head screwdriver and spin it around through that gap. Also, to speed up the process of draining the torque converter, use a air blow gun and slowly introduce air inside the torque. That will drain it faster and also drain some oil out of the gearbox oil passages
I have a cheap ebay cigar/USB adapter that also displays battery volts. I suggest you use one for a while once you feel it is fixed - just to make sure and avoid damaging the new battery or any ECUs.
The is a tool you can but you pump all the oil out of the box. You took it up to compressed air and it enables you to drain pretty much ever drop out of the box. I use it to flush them completely and it makes a world of difference
Hi from durham dean👋👍 well I hope this is end of the sloppy box 😂👌 good job mate and the ar sounds like its finding itself now just monitor the areas where its possible to leak from cos still some missing if I did my maths rite🤔 just keep eye out👍 snd also cant wait for the long awaited mexico private roads 👌 I want to hear what your feeling on planting it😂 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon👍👋
Very much prefer this more detailed style of repair video. The shorter more abbreviated repair videos on other channels… aren’t very useful, as they skip over all the setbacks. It’s far more interesting and useful to viewers to have longer more detailed videos, so we can see the unexpected problems you encounter, and the thought process you employ to resolve them. Cheers!
Glad you got the alternator sorted. 9 times out of 10 that if the bearings and the commutator are good then it's just the brushes and regulator that needs replacing. Could also be what's causing such a large parasitic drain on the battery. If it wasn't this then you'll have to find what circuit is draining the battery that quickly.
All the older higher end Mercs I've had have had a battery drain of some sort, lucky to get a couple of days out of them in my experience, does start to get annoying.
