The reason no flat-earther will describe what shape they think the Earth actually is, is so that they can always move the goalposts. If they produced a map or a model for their version of the flat-earth, then it could be tested and disproven. But if they don't state their position, then they haven't produced enough information to be definitively debunked and can always accuse scientists of attacking a straw-man instead of 'what they actually believe'

@@mattjackson9859 I'm not jabbed and I think the earth is a oblate spheroid! Emotional fear of the unknown drove a lot of people to get jabbed. Same with FEs. A lot of them would be the same.
I used to draw maps using an instrument with aerial stereo photography. It's called photogrammetry. The intsrument had an earth curviture correction when the photographs were taken from very high altitudes. It flattened the edges of the image to represent a true topographic model on the map. If the earth was flat, why do photogrammetric instruments need earth curviture correction?
A Flat Earther would say something to you like, "You didn't do the calculations personally, so you don't actually *know* that the correction is for earth curve. That's just what *they* told you." The person who said this to you would have a high percentage chance of being a Christian, but also have a high percentage chance of somehow thinking this was probably done by the Jews. Seems to be a pretty frequent line of reasoning.
Finally someone is addressing the point I have been wondering for a long time; all the flerfs cry out flatness even from high altitude cameras, but nobody had ever mentioned the assumed endless ice wall at the edges of the visible view.
And you would think that they would try to document the ice wall despite the evil government surveillance near the wall. I often wonder what they actually are trying to accomplish with the crazy mindset. Loonies 😆
How come we can never see that "endless ice wall" from the ISS or any other video made in space? 😂 If you have ever played "Lords of Midnight" or "Doomdark's Revenge" then you'll be able to see an endless ice wall...

It comes down to "It doesn't agree with my preconceived notion, so it can't exist". When postgalactic noticed the curve after he messed with the image trying to make it agree with his beliefs, (which seems like cheating?) he just chose to ignore it. His response was "I refuse to believe the evidence of my eyes, so it's wrong for some reason I can't articulate". Seems really sad, to me.
Possibly cognitive dissonance? Could be a few other biases too. I think it's worth keeping in mind that all of us can make similar mistakes. Our brains are really bad at this stuff, flat earth is just an extreme example.
It's no point arguing with idiots. You can shoot flatearthers into the orbit and they will either claim, that the windows are TV panels or / and they've been drugged over the air to see things that aren't there.
For most or 'em that's perfect.. But I'd amend it slightly to cover the full spectrum of flattie: "It doesn't agree with my preconceived notion so it must be wrong". This way we accommodate the failed experiments of such flatulents as Bob "15 degrees per hour" Noodle, and Mr "interesting" J'ism, etc, whereby they find post hoc excuses to deny their own results.
Trying to convince a flat earther they're wrong only pushes them deeper into the delusion. The problem is some people just find it impossible to admit that they got something wrong. They would rather double-down on their bias.
Trying to argue with flat earthers is a lost cause. You don't need to waste all that time. Nobody knows that to actually inform a person, you cannot simply refute their points. You need to get them to understand your words in their own context.
The main reason its hard to impossible to convince a flat earther is that they revel in being the victim of a conspiracy since if the majority of the world is working to deceive you, then your not to blame for failing at life :).
I knew a man who was a flat eather briefly, and had a tendency to fall into conspiracy theories. His defense was that it didn’t matter what he said because ‘everyone was gonna say I was wrong anyway.’ These people categorize themselves as separate from everyone else and determine that the world is out to get them. Flat earther conspiracies make them feel smart when they know deep down that they aren’t actually smart, and someone questioning the validity of that knowledge is not only challenging their knowledge, but their ego as well. They’re immature children masquerading as functioning adults.

Been awhile since I saw a "limit if the eye's range" argument. What I've always loved about it is that if it were true, the higher up you get the shorter your view of the ground should be, so lookout towers and crowsnests would actually be WORSE at spotting things.
Because our personal visible-horizon at any given point in time remains fixed, on a Flat-Earth Model that would indeed make Elevation-for-Spotting a Failed Endeavor because at Best absolutely nothing would ever have changed or been more beneficial in that scenario (or else it would've been Made Worse, as you said). Whereas in reality, here on Actual Earth, elevation still doesn't change the fact that our personal visible-horizon stays with fixed with us, But it does allow that visible-horizon to potentially reach its actual practical-maximum by virtue of Looking Over the Curvature.
Yeah, because atmospheric density isn't a thing, or weather, or light reflection/refraction limiting or ability to see past a certain distance or angular size of objects further away. Flat or globe, these same issues are at play.

Look up Atmospheric Extinction. It's not what it sounds like, it's the degree to which the atmosphere interferes with light propagation. Enough atmosphere can make stars appear dimmer, and that suggests there's an atmospheric limit to how far one can see. But that limit requires atmosphere _all the way_ to the subject. To see the sun we only look through a few miles of atmosphere. On flat earth, your view would become more and more obscured by atmosphere as it approached the horizon because you're looking through _thousands of miles of air,_ something you can't do on a spherical earth. So you cannot have a sharp horizon on a flat earth, instead the horizon becomes the "color of the air" and blends into the sky and ground.
You would also be able to notice this every time you go up in a tall building or an airplane. Whatever is obscuring the extent of your vision that isn't the horizon, should prevent you from seeing as far from higher elevations as you can from ground level because there is more "interfering matter" in the line of sight looking at something any distance away from from any elevation than there would be looking at that same distance from ground level. After a certain height, you would literally just see blurred nothing at the extent of your vision. There are videos of what this would look like taken from the top of Burj Khalifa during a sandstorm and you can see X distance from your eyes, but than its blurred beyond that. This field of vision is, of course, spherical shaped. Everything should look like a less extreme version of this in the flat earth model, but of course it doesn't.

The answer to this is the thing that's been relegated to a future video: perspective. To put it mildly, there is a large category of arguments regarding the difficulties of reconciling what we can and cannot see with a flat earth model. Some of this is due to what's essentially magic (the earth and moon and stars). But a ton of this is handled by what Parallax declared as aspects of Perspective. It would be fair to suggest that Parallax invented a system of how light supposedly works that no optics company would touch with a ten-foot pole. But supposedly this answers all these issues of why you cannot see all the way to the ice wall as well as how you see ships sail over the horizon.
Perspective... Or Flerfspective... They try to use the Rayleigh criterion (and a lower acute angle) as perspective for a reason to why you can't see far, (they also try to use the inverse square law) and want things disappear bottom first. Maybe I missed something from postgalactic's debunk video. His red and white blocks showed that the two metal bars were parallel but he then argued that the line between them, the horizon was not parallel to the bars. The horizon on the left hand side was lower. Surely that is the whole point, two parallel bars with a non-parallel horizon, it dips down on the left. He debunks his own argument.
Exactly, the white block was measuring the gap between the bars (confirming they remain parallel with each other) And the red block measured the gap of the horizon between the bars His confirmation bias just steps in to conclude that the horizon not remaining parallel must be due to a fault with the equipment
One of the main problems with the flat earth belief is that nobody knows how a flat earth should appear. They are unable to draw a simple scale map of a flat earth. For me the dumbest one, and maybe that's not true because they are all tremendously stupid, is that they claim the limitations of our vision s due to anything but the horizon, pollution, refraction, whatever it is. If so, Why can I see further from the top of the CN tower than I can from the ground at the edge of Lake Ontario? If the distance I can see is limited by something other than the horizon, why is it not consistent if the weather/pollution conditions are the same in a very localized area.

And the lampshade is somehow invisible and doesn’t change the shape of the sun at any point in the day, and somehow gets obscured by the horizon at night.
I actually cannot comprehend how sad it must be to hate the world government so much, to have so much trauma, that you lose all semblance of kindergarten levels of geometry I feel really bad for these people, not being able to become photographers, mathematicians, construction workers, engineers, go to space, fly in planes, etc like, you have to think that planes around the northern hemisphere literally are moving orders of magnitudes slower than planes around the south, which is of course why they can't become pilots they also think the lunar landing was faked because obviously they looked back at the earth and saw a ball, which flat earthers refuse to accept
@@Globeishoaxx "You can’t observe a small and local sun hovering above" What diameter is the sun, and at what altitude? And while you're about it, what's the diameter of flat earth? Note, these aren't trick questions - flat earthers have had centuries to come up with figures from observations.
You know I've always said that I don't really care what people choose to believe. It has no bearing on my life. BUT, my mother, who pulled her self up from poor, old world, almost dust bowl level, country, sharecropper, in 1940s/50s Oklahoma, to be the first of the family to go to college and the first to go to the "big city" to be a working woman. She went to work for the FBI in Oklahoma City in a time when it was extremely male dominated. She had to move to Dallas for 2 years when Kennedy was assassinated to to work on the investigation. I can't stress enough the hurtles she had to overcome to make that happen just due the total isolation aspect alone. She's almost 90 now and her mind is still pretty sharp but she has a hard time making things make sense sometimes. She got exposed to the whole flat earth idea on the internet in the last couple years and it perfectly demonstrated, to me, when the algorithm keeps feeding you MORE of what you just watched until it appears that everyone must think like that...a type of radicalization almost. In the big picture what does it matter what an old woman thinks? I've know her for 55 years and this particular decline makes me very sad. My mother was never a scientist, but for 85 years she damn well knew what shape the earth was!
If you are a flat earth believer and these videos are giving you tickles of doubt, but can't socially abandon this belief all of a sudden, just stop talking and bringing it up as often. Ask to rejoin events with your friends and family and say you won't bring it up. You don't need to make a big deal of it and just push the topic aside or say "I'm not going into it" when prompted. Then, it might be months or years down the line, if your questions lead you to confirm the earth is round and people ask you about it, you will be able to talk about your current experience as a previous person. Helping to take a lot of that shame that comes with upheaving and changing a belief you hold so central to your very being (You can also do this going from Atheist to Christian or vice versa)
They still haven't noticed that every time they babble about the horizon looking flat or not curving enough they fail to notice the video also shows atmosphere fading into a vacuum...
and at the same time why isn't there coverage all over the world if there are supposedly tens of thousands of satellites roaming in space and why is it fixed locations they are unable to get gps signal?
@@vacuumandgaspressurecoexisting but there is coverage all around the world even in the middle of nowhere like the forests, mountains and open sea. Are you confusing gps with a cellphone signal? If so.... geezus.
@@vacuumandgaspressurecoexisting 1) Straw man. We have a lot of satellites, but not enough to get 100% coverage all the time 2) Satellites don't directly connect to your phone, most first connect to wifi towers and then to your phone.
Flat Earth??? Globe Earth?? Y'all are missing it completely. We live on the back of a spaghetti monster eating MCU ETERNALS (not comics) until they burst into oblivion. Hope this helps😊
The fact that the horizon is equidistant from the camera in all directions from every high altitude camera, no matter where on earth it is launched, proves that we live on a sphere 😐
Weird how they think there is a "limit" to one's vision...yet your altitude also affects the "limit". Do they think our eyes abilities are directly linked to how tall you are? Shoot, you'll put all the optometrists out of work if you just give everyone stilts😂
Weird how you don't understand vision limitations at all. If there are no limitations to our vision, why then, can one not see a quarter on the ground from say an airplane and read the year of the quarter on it? "Because it's too small and too far away" Oh, so there are limitations to our vision due to distance and size of objects, got it.
@@zefferss Theres no limitations in terms of distance limitation. Perspective still exists. You can zoom with a camera or telescope. Really tricky without getting taken out of context
Name ONE Flat Earther who has travelled to the edge and taken a picture over the side. You can't, because they are all too busy living in their parent's basements.....

No matter how hard you try to convince them, they'll still stay the same. What we really need to do is put all of them into their own little spacecraft. Then, while they’re barreling into the sun, they can look behind them and see the true shape of the Earth.
@@StormsparkPegasus indeed, marc sergent (one of the biggest flat earther) was asked if he would accept that the earth was a ball if we could send him in space and he could see it with his own eyes, and he said no, he would never believe it, even if he could see it. This is quit straight forward, only some of them could accept it, those are the ones who are just questioning and have recently been deceived into this belief. Those who stayed for too long are almost impossible to even talk with. But the worst of them are those like Sergent who literally make tons of money and gain a social status and lots of influence thanks to this. I even struggle to believe that the leaders of the flat earth are flat earthers themselves, and not just straight up lair, when you look at how much money they gained thanks to it.
Either magical holographic windows, gaseous drugs pumped into the cabin, windows are screens, they are strapped on a chair after being drugged and have VR headsets. I'm certain I can pull out a few more if you want XD One I head was something of the like: "because our eyes are ball shaped, the image we see is curved" it was incredible to read or hear, can't recall which and from whom.
they just can't seem to accept the concept of us living on a large sphere that is suspended in the vacuum of space.. their ability to analyze properly is not well developed. Not saying that inability makes them inferior, just that their abilities rest elsewhere (maybe they're really good artists, poets, etc)
@@colty7764 mostly the problem is that they don’t care about the shape of the earth. The shape of the earth is extremely inconsequential compared to the fact that god exists, they believe that if the earth is flat then god exists, and god *has* to exist.
why would be infinite ice around the earth and yet we still have global worming, and why the sun effect only the ice on the flat earth and not on the edges
Has any flat earther explained sunset an sunrise. They would be impossible on their models, especially considering that others would have sun still visible.
The fact that people believe this is real to this day, with all the technology, tools, and experiments you can do yourself... truly speaks to how stupid the human race is becoming. How is this even a thing that needs explaining...
The present flat earth vogue is a repeat of the flat earth claims from the middle of the 19th century. Science was becoming popular, with interest from ordinary people increasing. Some religious fundamentalists became scared that it would somehow hide or disprove God, flat earth was just a science denying movement, bolstered by such as Samuel Rowbotham who was the equivalent of flat earth RU-vidrs today, using it as an income provider. No scholar of any note has thought the Earth to be flat for at least 2,000 years.
People try to find identity with groups, and in a rough spot a conspiracy may be where someone goes. Some people believe it due to indoctrination from their religion, but to an extreme level. Some people fall into it in other ways, then their brain puts up cognitive blocks and goes into defense and locks people in as well. It is both sad and hilarious.
According to many flat earthers, the sun and moon are both around 3000 miles away, and we can see them just fine. According to those same flat earthers, when we look along a flat surface, our vision is limited to around 20-40 miles, depending on atmospheric conditions. Even so, according to those very same flat earthers, we see too far depending on those same atmospheric conditions, up to 275 miles. The earth looks like a globe because of atmospheric conditions, perspective and refraction, but only when it suits them. Otherwise atmosphere and perspective can be, and will be, wholly discounted.
OK, if the flat Earth isn't a disc floating in space, then what is it? What are we standing on? It reminds me of the old joke that it's "turtles all the way down!"
Dave, note that the flat earth can form a horizon ONLY AT ITS EDGES, AND NOWHERE ELSE ALONG THE SURFACE. This is what you showed as well. Only a globe can form horizons 360 degrees around every point of observation. Looking over a flat table and a ball can replicate these effects. It's clear that reality matches what you see on a ball.
Here's the real question: if the space is square, what's stopping the earth from being a cube? [Edit] Damn it he said space wasnt square. I can't believe squarespace lied to me
It's kinda funny that a lot of these are great arguments that flat earthers could make as an excuse for why there is a visible curve... yet they still prefer to simply argue that the curve itself is fake.
I was actually working on a very similar video, but luckily this was different enough. I am focusing on how a flat earth would actually look, no crisp horizon, everywhere you look, the distance would be dark and hazy, as all the atmosphere moisture builds up, clouds build up, and the land masses fade into each other. I think the BEST example I can think of, is like being in Vegas, with the mountains all around creating a weird sensation of like being in a bowl. It is funny how Flat Earthers claim you wouldn't see that stuff, because of "perspective" haha, but perspective REQUIRES a horizon!
And just another point, I have never come across a flattie who actually understands and can illustrate exactly how perspective works. For something that is underpinning their ideology, you would think they would know a bit about it. But no, not in flerfville.
@@JohnSmith-ux3tt They treat "perspective" like a magic word that papers over the difference between what optics tells us to expect on a flat earth and what we actually see; if they actually engaged with an understanding of how perspective works, they couldn't pretend it makes sense as an excuse anymore.
Also, the Flerfdom stars violate Perspective Convergence. As you move farther south from a relatively fixed Polaris, there should be an observed convergence of Polaris and neighboring stars, if the the stars were local. However, Polaris maintains the same angular distance from other stars at 10° N. Latitude as it does at 60° N. Latitude. We see a distinct horizon over the ocean precisely because we exist on a Globe. On a vast large flat plane, there would be a non-distinct horizon. Just a vanishing off into the distance blending of water and sky.
That flaterther said a "quick rush to judgment" as if we weren't just staring at two shapes that you learn in kindergarten😂😂 take all the time you need there buddy
I live on an island in the middle of the Pacific. Saipan. My window overlooks the ocean. I also spent a year at sea on a US Navy ship. Ever since I can remember, I have been able to notice a slight curvature when looking out to sea. Also, from Saipan, on a clear day if you are atop Mt. Tapachau, (elevation 1,500 ft) you can see the top of Anatahan Island (elevation 2000 ft), which is about 78 miles away. But you can not see the base of Anatahan, as one would expect. The green flash you can see at sunset also proves earth isn't flat. My office is on the 2nd floor, so the view of the ocean I see daily is elevated. My Flat Earth friends say "NO YOU CAN'T" when I point to the ocean and point out how I can see a curve.
Sorry Spaniels are not the smartest of the dog breeds, However they are way too intelligent to fall for the flat Earth cult. Even pet rocks are smarter than flurfs.
