Hey there Mr. Mckeegan. Have you ever thought about taking on the cult leaders of flat earth? The likes of the eric dubay, mark sargent, or flat brain dave? Mainly to finally shutdown this idiotic idea of the earth being flat.

I still wonder whether or not flat earthers could just say the footage in the videos here is actually partially authentic & are truly filmed in the atmosphere, but CGI is used to make the edges round and show the Earth as a sphere, even though the unedited footage shows it's flat. How would you answer such a partially real but partially CGI explanation?
@AbsurdScandal
@AbsurdScandal 10 месяцев назад
Also, flat earthers would just argue that even one week of free time between the date the photo was taken and the date of publishing is enough for super advanced CGI to be done well enough, because, say, the most advanced CGI tech isn't available to the public and only limited versions are used by Hollywood to ensure that NASA's stuff seems realistic, and that since hiding the shape of the Earth is so important & gigantic of a coverup that it's not hard to imagine funding NASA with billions of dollars to pay attention to detail in order to make the fakery as convincing as possible. I think one way of dealing with that objection is to point out the actual practical problems with doing such advanced CGI work, disputing the actual factors needed for such super advanced CGI that can do hyperdetailed effects in a few days, and that one week of time and even Trillions of dollars aren't enough to actually compensate for.

That is amazingly thorough work Dave! What any flat earth/anti space flight people really cannot explain is why any of this *public domain* data has been created. If they were involved in predicting the weather, they would not say such a thing.

@@DaveMcKeegan My problem with LEO is that he always immediately jumps to CGI to explain phenomena while not actually explaining how it can be faked with CGI. Some things are incredibly, incredibly difficult (if not impossible) to fake in still images, let alone videos (such as the RAW camera files you talked about a few videos ago). If he put the effort in to show and perhaps even demonstrate (he is a demonstrable realist after all) how you could recreate the "faked" media, then he would be a lot more believable and his videos wouldn't be "hidden by the algorithm" (codeword for: not get a lot of views because they are low effort and boring). But of course he isn't going to do that because he's ultimately either an elaborate troll / con artist that does it for the thrill / small profit, or he really is just so ignorant and incapable of understanding the world around him that he refuses to even try to comprehend a narrative different to the one in his head and will cherry pick as much as he can to support his crumbling facade. Finding that face in those few frames, downloading the RAW file and enhancing it was brilliant. As many have said, the sheer huge volume of data and images going back to the start of space exploration is staggering. Not only are there hundreds of thousands of images, going back way before the days of cgi (something I will never understand about FErs - they can't imagine outside their own timeline). They're are also thousands of written records going back right to the start. Of course some of it is incredible reading but there are countless documents over a 60 year period that would make the dullest reading. It is idiotic to think that this huge volume of data has been created to fool the masses.

Brilliant, Dave!!! (As the Concept Designer for 'Gravity', working with probably the biggest CGI company in the world, I know that that sequence would have taken years to produce...) We had a lot of help from NASA, who always seemed to have operatives wearing dark glasses, even in London, and somehow would only talk to their wrists... don't know what that was about? PS... with regard to 'Gravity'. I know that there are several things technically wrong (myself having been an Aerospace Engineer in the long distant past before becoming a film Production Designer), such as airlocks opening outwards, seeing debris moving at 15,000 mph (really?), the fact that the Shuttle was taken out of commission while we were too far down the line, and maybe a couple of other things... I tried to argue with the Director (Alfonso Cuaron... I had worked with him previously on 'Children of Men' to solve a few problems, hence my strange title on that as 'Vehicle Designer' or some such... lovely man!). His answer, which I will always cherish... "I make films for audiences, and if they have to stop and think at some point because of an obscure point... I will have lost them...) PPS my lurcher says Spaniels are OK!

Beautiful video, well done Dave. And with the cherry on top - the astronaut picture in reflection. Btw, could we (you really, lol) go step even further, and take something like Himawari satelite last minute photo, and compare it with the view outside of your house? This of course might require some timing with more distinguish clouds situations in various times of day, but the method and of course your results, might become persuasive enough for at least some flat earthers to go out and see that by themselves. And then, consequently, if they simply cannot catch the Himawari sending the "wrong rendering" down to Earth, which doesn't match what they see when they look up, and we all know they cannot, they MIGHT get convinced that this whole flatearth business is just one big bullshit.

This is exactly the method that I was thinking I would use if I ever met a flat earther - thankfully I haven't ever met one... my plan is to use a cheap SDR with a patch antenna to directly receive and decode weather images from weather satellites such as GOES and NOAA... because you personally have to aim the antenna, and you must use the orbital ephemeris to know where to point the antenna. Then once you've decoded the image, simply look up at the sky and see if the weather overhead matches the image you have (generally you should have no trouble finding your location in the image if there is at least some area not covered by clouds). And this works no matter where on the planet you are... so the fact that you used orbital information to locate the satellite and aim the antenna says volumes about what kind of object you are standing on.

The ability to see right across from Germany to Italy, while still having the resolution to see the shimmers of light from the rivers of France, the sheer distance the ISS goes in such a short time, the fact you could even identify the specific astronaut who wanted to take a timelapse of the ISS flying over his own home country... This video actually made me full-on emotional. I was tearing up by the end and couldn't even laugh at you dissing the flat earthers. Dear flat earthers out there: I am right now working my ass off with a team of 12 (!) to get a short cgi-sequence for a game done; if I could only show you the amount of work it takes to get just a few frames (not even a second) right, to have lightning, shades, motion, angles, and perspective just half way decent! Even if you had a million guys work for you, this wouldn't change a thing, because the next guy would have to wait for that one frame you are working on, before he can do his task on just the same frame. It is tedious, you can make many obvious mistakes, and you need a shit ton of data space! A sequence of many many hours of uninterrupted video stream is impossible to do in just a few days!!!

Second of all, its absolutely hilarious. Dave basically says "Here flat earthers, here's why you're idea is ridiculous!" but he doesn't stop there. "Oh, by the way, let me just go above and beyond to show you even more reasons why." and then continues "but wait! I think this video might (for me anyway) be the most enlightening video you've ever produced. Right at the end you brought up the challenges and time frames the 3D effects artists would have been up against when you reminded us that the flerfs consider the "CGI Dept" at NASA some of the worst visual effects artists on earth. This oxymoronic view of things is emblematic of conspiracy theorists such as flerfs. It's also a great way to spot fascistic rhetoric. "That group of purple people are the reason our economy is gone down the tubes so we should cut ties with them and halt all dealings with them and ban them from our establishments" and that verbal darrihea is then followed up by someone with a rant that goes something like "That group of purple people are all rich and hoarding money because they all stick together and spend their money with other purple people. They control huge portions of whatever industry and undercut us with their massive buying power which is ruining our economy ". Russia is a current prime example. Russia: We're here to liberate the citizens from the tyrannical rule of the Neo-Gnat-z's just like it's 1945. Also Russia: Congratulations people of the donbass. Your village was purged of imaginary neo-n@zis by Wagner, a group of brutally violent, neo-n@zi war criminals covered in N@zi tattoos and iconography and named after Hitlers favorite composer. Russia: Of course we haven't conquered Kyiv and toppled Zelenski yet, the entirety of NATO is in, on, above, around, alongside and allover Ukraine Also Russia: Hahaha the entirety of NATO is being simultaneously beaten into a gelatinous pulp to be scraped off our fine Soviet combat boots. It's impossible to stop the great Russian war machine. I now think I understand why the flerf/truther crowd is so heavily infected with at-right/fundie/fascist adjacent types. There's a multitude of more or less fantastical ideas about, but the script, final movie and physics just don't say the same things. The script explanation would only have worked with a highly elastic tether, but the scene showed the character stopping and later floating away, not the tether snapping back. Neil did quite enjoy the movie, but also expressed his curiosity about what appeared incongruent - and some of it is.

So in order for this to be CGI (and that being the most perfect CGI ever), NASA would have to be spending an MCU movie sized budget and work load almost DAILY.... so $400m/ day x 365 days = $146b... well within the spending limits of their $23b a year budget...😂

The biggest difference between flat earthers and scientists is that scientists look for evidence to disprove their claim while flat earthers look for evidence to prove theirs.

What a joke - you claim a magic force field but you dont even have a consistent natural phenomenon, the first step in a scientific proof. Most of you clowns dont even realise your high priests in lab coats bailed on "your mass attracting mass Newtonian shyt" a 107 years ago. You make claims that contradict Natural Law - that would be a a near perfect vacuum (space claim) adjacent gas pressure. (atmos). This claim is complete shyte backed up by zero evidence except fables from an institution called NASA receiving 65 million a day to do 'trapeezze' acts and test out hair spray. What? Gravity is the barrier? Gravity aint a force, gold fish --- NEXT !!!

@@user-ns8py8by1x You’re right; that would be like asking the Nigerian prince to just take some gold out of the box to pay for the shipping fee.
