When I still thought I was a girl, my gay awakening was another girl. Now, solid seven years later, we are both men and platonically gay for each other
Hello, fellow queers, I have officially came out as a transgender female, and I'm bisexual too and polyamorous too, and I have to thank Jamie here because he was one of the reasons why I'm comfortable with who I truly am, and I will thank all the help I got to finally be me Edit: Wow, 431 likes and all the support from you guys Another edit: 1K LIKES, JESUS GUYS
The teacher one reminds me of when I came out as trans to the director of the security department at my job. I told him I was transitioning and he asked me to what department, the person at the desk behind him was trying so hard to not laugh lol His reaction when I explained that I was talking about gender was also pretty great
Personally I think "you're trying to tell them about the ice-cream but you're stuck on the waffle" is an amazing analogy Jamie, and I will 100% be stealing it
especially because the waffle is below the ice cream; you can communicate the base ideas of like “something with me is not how you think” but getting to the surface ideas is much harder
I always had a thing for Legolas. Giving off serious androgynous vibes. Edit: Also the gay frog thing became popular when the alt-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones talked about how the government was contaminating the water with chemicals making the friggin frogs gay. We then made it our little icon.
My family watched a movie, some new x-men thing, with a main lesbian and another girl who was also lesbian. They had a sweet kissing scene under the stars in a graveyard and then later a comforting talk before the mc went into a surgery. My parents skipped both so fast. Btw, both were fully clothed both times. There was also a scene where a guy and a girl were in a pool, basically naked, and making out and my parents watched it completely like it was nothing. Btw, the girl turned out to be a nightmare creature who was trying to kill him
I’m really sorry that your parents are like that :/ but when you said “in a graveyard” my mind instantly went to the song Cemetery Gates by The Smiths (its me and my boyfriend’s favorite smiths song) go listen to it, its gorgeous and very gay, maybe it’ll make you feel better
So this past week I found out that one of my cousins is nonbinary transmasc and that their mother, who is also my aunt and godmother, wholly accepts them. Also I've got everyone round my place for Thanksgiving. I hope all my fellow trans peeps in the US have a lovely Thanksgiving with whatever family you have, normal or biological. If they don't accept you they don't deserve you.
This'll be my first Thanksgiving after being disowned for being trans. My friend is having me over, but it still hits hard, sometimes. I haven't been able to afford to travel home for Thanksgiving in 5 years, but this still feels different.
Hello random internet people. I officially started puberty blockers on Monday, this is my first step in medically transitioning from female to male. I cannot get over how incredibly happy I am, and how much stress this has relieved. Idk why I felt like sharing it here, but I did. I’m literally so happy I don’t even know what else to say..But Jamie, thank you so much for making me feel like I’m not alone. You’re awesome dude
Every time my grandparents complain about seeing gay couples on tv, i just always come back with being tired of seeing straight couples on tv. Usually works lol
The subtle genius of the seatbelt scene in Jurassic Park (which I definitely didn't notice until a helpful youtube analyst explained it) is that tying the two "female" ends of the seatbelt together to get an effective result was deliberate foreshadowing that the park's strategy of preventing the dinosaurs from breeding in the wild by keeping them all female was doomed to fail.
i told my mom about a year ago im pansexual and she said "we'll talk about it later" since it was late. she never talked about it, so i thought she forgot about it. then about a month ago she dragged me into one of her transphobic/homophobic talks when she said "Im glad you dont think your than pan thing anymore" and i almost cried. this WHOLE TIME I WAITED FOR HER to bring it up because i couldnt myself, and SHE THOUGHT BECAUSE I NEVER SAID ANYTHING I SIMPLY WASNT? i just had to nod my head. i havent even told my friends yet. yet im telling a bunch of strangers. why is it easier to tell people you dont know. I havent even told my siblings that im out to yet! my sister said "itll be fine, she already has 2 queer kids (out of 4)" and yeah i thought it would be fine, but NOPE! sorry for bringing down the mood i needed to vent
There’s no need to apologize it’s a good thing to vent and it’s probably just easier to vent to strangers because you will probably never see so you don’t care what they say
Hope you are doing better now. Whether you can bring your mom around, or have to distance yourself from her perspective, I’m sure you’ll flourish because you know yourself- and luckily have queer siblings as well. Best of luck, and I’m sorry you’ve had to go through so much cluelessness and invalidation on behalf of someone else’s hangups. Ps, idk if this applies to your situation, or is particularly interesting to you at the moment, but a friend and I were recently talking about how a queerphobic parent is often closeted themself. Usually not “gay” in the strict sense that was popular when they were kids, but bi, pan, ace, genderfluid or something else they had no language for when they were young. No obligation on your part to understand how a parent comes to react badly to you... yknow.. existing, but it’s definitely an interesting dimension to explore when you simply can’t understand why you’re getting such a negative reaction.
Yep, and they used the dna from one of those species to create the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, which explains how they could reproduce even though they were all supposed to be females. Dinosaurs are cool, transphobia is not.
A moment of acknowledgment of the shocking tragedy in Colorado Springs. May we find the strength to be there for other Queers and condolences to the deceased.
I highly recommend doing research into the "gay frog" meme. It's fascinating, especially when you learn the facts. There's a content creator, Oki's Weird Stories, who actually summarizes it quite nicely. But, to summarize even further, if you've ever heard the phrases about stuff in water turning frogs gay, well, the frogs actually *did* kind of turn queer according to the data! But it's not at all a scary conspiracy with any negative implications or anything, just a fun fact that got blown out of proportion by a certain loud character.
I would add, the study on Atrazine by Tyrone Hayes was debunked, as the results could not be replicated. Frogs can naturally switch biological sexes based on environmental stressors, which the experiment did not control for. This is not the same as turning gay either, and it goes without saying that human biology is not the same as frog biology. That did not stop conspiracy theorists from latching onto the talking point, "They're putting chemicals in the water that turn the frogs gay," and running with it. Yes, the follow up studies were industry-funded, but so was the original Hayes study itself. This is why peer review is so important.
If I remember correctly the frogs weren't "turned queer" but it was causing an increase in infertile hermaphroditic frogs and driving down the frog population. Alex Jones is just... dumb.
IIRC, the supposed "data" about Atrazine being an endocrine disrupter in frogs turned out to be unreproducible, so the whole thing was actually just BS in the first place by people with an agenda to push. If you want to see it covered by a chemist in all its awful glory, I would suggest you look at Miles Power's channel and search for his two-part Atrazine story.
2:56 The meme about coming out to a teacher reminds me of when my English teacher found out I was gay. My girlfriend at the time wrote "gay" all over my homework, not realising it was homework, and when I handed it in my teacher pulled me aside and asked if I was being bullied. I said, "No, it was my girlfriend who did that, I think it's just a friendly reminder." We laughed about it afterwards 🤣
Jamie's comment about 'if theres an existence of a binary then there can be non-binary' (11:28) is also a thing in computing and digital electronics, as, for 74HC logic at 5V, whilst there are High(1) and Low(0) binary values, they are defined as being >3V for High and
Jamie, as a biology student and frog enthusiast, I feel the need to explain the gay frog meme to you. So, there's industrial polution in the water where the chemicals, wich are highly toxic to the environment, affect the living creatures and can go so far as changing the sex of the animals (wich makes them intersex i guess, not gay lol). That's very problematic to the ecosystem because it compromises the species reproduction. For example, on some snails I studied in college, the chemicals were making the female snails grow male parts, and it grew so much until it blocked the passage of eggs. So the eggs got stuck inside the snails and they just...hm...exploded! This is just an example I personally know, but it happens different for different animals. Frogs on industrial poluted areas go through this sex-changing process as well. Thats why some conspiracy theorist said the famous phrase "They're turning the frogs gay!" and it kinda went viral Jokes aside, it is a serious topic
thank u for explaining for people who didn't know but i have a question about the snails? what do you mean female snails? maybe i'm not as knowledgeble in snail biology as i thought but i didn't think they had seperate sex characteristics lol
Fun fact with specifically the frogs thing, turns out a lot of the claims were over a specific chemical allegedly altering their development (I think specifically gonad development). But the study was done by some dude who refuses to share details on his experiments, and the info that's actually been shared doesn't line up at all with the results of anyone else's experiments. Check out Myles Power's videos on Atrazine, he's a chemist who dug as deep as he could into it, and it's fascinating.
Actually it's anti-GMO disinformation. It's about a discredited study where the "scientist" claimed that feeding Roundup (very popular glyphosate-based herbicide) to male frogs causes them to start mating each other and develop female sex characteristics. Nobody could reproduce the study and there was also some shady conflict-of-interest so the paper was eventually retracted.
"Turn the friggin frogs gay" is an Alex Jones quote. It was turned into a catchy song because it was so ridiculous. It was a podcast about chemical spills turning the frogs gay. He's insane.
Once, my health teacher gave us a paper at the beginning of the year, it asked for our name, preferred name, name to use around Parents, pronouns, and a spot that said: “is there anything else you would like me to know.” I put No, with a rainbow made of highlighters beside it. I also drew my Name each letter a diff colour from the rainbow, on my art folder. Idk if the teacher aren’t asking if I’m queer because they don’t want to be “rude” or if they haven’t noticed yet. (Side note, we also have a pride flag in every classroom, and a teacher that wears rainbows almost everyday)
The story about coming out to a teacher really hit home. But from the other side. Please, you wonderful people understand: In between periods (which are high pressure situations for us), is the only time we can shut down our brains a bit. It's also the time we get flooded with so much stuff - hypothetical questions, trolling attempts and so much more. When you come out to us - be direct. Preface it with "Can we talk, it's important?". I wish it were easier for us and I wish I'd pick up on all the little hints and signals from all 50-100 students I have, but that's just not possible. I understand that coming out is difficult enough and it gets more difficult the more direct you are with it. But we probably need a proper shove to get it.
Well, I can understand that, you hear and process what you're expecting to hear (like the comment above where someone came out as trans to their boss but boss misunderstood "transitioning" to mean changing departments within the company, an embarrassing but completely understandable assumption based on the location and expected situation). And also when people are being subtle because they're uncomfortable, it's that much easier to misconstrue something no matter how open-minded you are... I always tell people to adjust their subtlety indicator to "12 lb sledgehammer" cause I know my brain parses information creatively sometimes.
I'm asexual, but Aragorn, Legolas, Galadriel, and Figwit (who's probably Lindir or they're different Elves with the same actor) are aesthetically pleasing as HECK.
Hey Jamie! I know you're probably not going to see this, but I just got back from The Click's channel and, as it turns out, Established Titles is kinda shady. I just wanted to make sure you were aware, since this isn't very widespread information.
3:00 (is that how timestamps work?) as an incredibly anxious person, I have had to come out to my parents a total of five times so far and they still just behave like nothing has happened half the time.
Hey Jamie, just a small thing here regarding your sponsorship of this video: I've just seen the Click (also a friend of One Topic) post a video about this company being a scam. I must admit that i dont fully know what is going on with it, but i just wanted to give you a heads up to. I always look forward to your videos, keep up the great work!
8:07 There is a song from the Percy Jackson Musical (yes that's a thing, go listen to it, it genuinely slaps) called "Strong." And it is one of my favorite songs in the track for this one line in the chorus: "Normal is a myth. Everyone has issues they're dealing with. [...] The things that make you different, are the very things that make you Strong. So Be Strong."
The frog holding the flag shocked me. That’s a design I sell that they traced (poorly, may I add) and added the text on to. Half of me is angry about the art theft, and the other half is happy Jamie liked my frog :\
Ik this video is old and people don't care but I'm just proud aha, I came out to my friends as lesbian asexual she/they and they were all so supportive of me 💕
@@gfsdhuijakolrygdfhuijs you mean the dude who got arrested for human trafficking? Also assuming your Christian it's a sin to worship false gods. cough cough maybe pick up a bible and quit worshipping someone falsely high and mighty
Hey Jamie, I had a seminar at university last week on sexual orientation and gender identity and we watched a video of you there. I was very happy about that 🥰
Hi Jamie! I just wanted to let you know that one of your sponsors, established titled, is a complete and utter scam. They say they sell you a square foot plot of land in Scotland to make you a Lord or Lady, however Scottish courts have ruled these purchases are invalid and you actually own no land, and have no title. They also do very little to help the environment, and the little they say in the fine print that they do is uncorroborated. Please let your fans know so that more do not fall victim to this scam. Thanks!
@Phil Davidson I'm serious, fix your god damn grammar. Your first reply would be *they're* because possessive forms of words are used when you talk about something that belongs to someone.
Me, realising that my son's congenital defect means that he's technically intersex, even though it's all there, but not quite typical: "Ok, cool, just means a lot of age-appropriate discussions about being different as he gets older." Me, realising that my memories of visiting the doctor around age 10 were (medically necessary) to correct my own intersex condition: "Hold on a minute..."
Not sure what that is but it probably sucks to have had your innards taken away. Knowing how fucked up these orangutans are, it's probably a sex toy now...
I can't believe I just watched a video by Scott Shafer explaining how Established Titles is a scam and the next video I go to is sponsored by Establised Titles.
The story about the old couple reminded me of this Netflix show called Last Tango in Halifax where two elderly people who had like dated briefly in grade school meet up and get together after both their spouses have died. The woman was very homophobic before, but the old man brings her around. It is very wholesome and shows that people can change even if they're old
I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but Frog and Toad was a comic written by a gay man about him and his partner. I always assumed that's where the gay frogs come from.
9:11 One time when I was in an inpatient doing family therapy (with a therapist that frequently misgendered all of my unit including me) and my mom misgendered so I said "they" to correct her. She started crying and saying how i "don't feel like [her] daughter anymore" and I said "yea I'm not your daughter I'm your child" and my therapist told me to be more empathetic and gentle and to use give (an interpersonal skill, be gentle- act interested- validate- easy manner) and told my mom "I think what she wants to say is that they don't want to be called your daughter but she's still your child" and my mom was just crying
Hi Jamie, no idea if you'll see this, but just letting you know bc you probably don't: Established Titles is a scam that's run by a Hong Kong company that can't sell actual land in Scotland. They sell souvenir plots, which are plots of land that are too small to be legally recognised, and the titles of Lord and Lady they give you also aren't legally recognised. It's not real. Sorry to be the one to tell you this if you see it. Valiskibum made a short video recently that goes into a bit more detail than this comment, so maybe give that a watch.
Going as a skeleton for Halloween: I'm cis het woman, and my bf when I was 18 dressed up as a skeleton, but he also wore a grass hula skirt, a lei, and actually bought a coconut from the grocery store to saw it half to make it into a bikini top. He had long hair, so we also put a flower clipped behind his ear. It was such a great costume; I'm sorry it was in the world before internet, and I don't recall anyone taking photos.
I'm genderfaun, born a female, and haven't come out yet. I'm gonna try to come out soon. I know I'm safe, and I want to come out, but my social anxiety has put me farfar deep into the closet. I also don't know _how_ to come out. It's just kinda awkward to me _imagine coming out 2 times lolol_
I’m sorry you’re having a hard time! I’ve never heard the term genderfaun before. I tried looking it up and from my understanding it is a type of gender fluidity that excludes more feminine aligned roles. Is that correct?
I just got metaphorically punshed. In highschool (rather the equivalent we have here) a friend of mine was gay and I only got it when he showed a picture of his new boyfriend. I just realized he might have hinted before. In my defense I recently found out that I have a characteristic called alexithimia which is basically an inability to identify feelings (yours and others). Still it's been over 10 years
Please never apologize for getting excited about the little things or for just being goofy. It was a delight to see you like this 😁 Loved the video as always 💙
Hey Jamie!- about Established Titles, they’re a sketchy service who haven’t been truthful about what they’ve been using the money from their sponsorships from- if you want to check The Click’s channel, he made a video on it a bit ago. (Not sure if you two know each other or not, but he’s friends with OT!) So uh yeaahhh- hopefully you can find this through the other multitudes of comments-
I haven't worn a Halloween costume in years, but being in a wheelchair enables some funny answers if someone saw me not dressed up and asked me what I'm supposed to be dressed as. "Crippled with anxiety" I think is the first thing I thought of, and another one I remember thinking of is "trans portation".
my best guess as to why frogs are a gay meme thing is the whole "i dont like them putting chemicals in the water that turn the frickin frogs gay" thing. personally i think its the funniest shit ever
jamie!! established titles is actually a scam website, they may have scottish land but they cannot sell you ownership nor give you a title. its basically just buying an expensive piece of paper. i found this out from a video from scott shafer after jarvis johnson tweeted about him editing out the sponsorships
Jamie is so wholesome I want to make fanart for him, he deserves it. Idk wether to draw a mixed trans&bi flag design or to draw a creature made of the bi and trans flag colours
Going to try and come out to some of my extended family this turkey day! I know that a lot of people are saying similar things, but I really do have Jamie to thank. My coming out experiences haven't always been the best, but knowing that there are people who are successful and happy really motivates me to be my true self. I am thankful for all of you wonderful people out there. Best wishes!
I personally suggest don't out towards the end of the gathering, that way if there's any hate you can get away more easily without disrupting the meal. People are also a bit more relaxed and willing to listen with a full stomach. Good luck and if there is people who reside to accept you as you then cut them out of your life and keep the ones who love you for who you are on the inside. Hopefully though this is how their reaction to it will be. "ok, so you prefer these pronouns, I'll do my best to remember. Do you have a preferred name you want to go by?" then everybody just moves on. That's how it generally is in my family. We've never had anybody come out as trans yet but we've had people come out as lesbian, gay and bi and my family barely even acknowledges their sexuality but in a way that it doesn't matter who they love as long as they're happy.
@@katie85705 I second this suggestion. Make sure you have a ride lined up if you aren't driving yourself, a safe place to go, etc etc. You likely wouldn't decide to come out that way if there was any actual physical threat but safe can also mean emotionally safe. Hopefully one or more people there already know and are prepared to support you if necessary. Good luck and congratulations!
@@CorwinFound A bit of my family knows already, and I plan on doing it this way. Thank you both for your recommendations and encouragement, it means alot. :)
As an ace person I used to think my “celebrity crush” was Frodo from lord of the rings…turns out I just thought he was nice and would be cool to hang out with :P
Hey Jamie, are you aware about Established Titles whole..deal? You might wanna check out some other RU-vidrs, like look at their apologies for being with the sponsor and accusations against them, and their zero transparency. Just a small suggestion, no need to actually go and research.
The teacher one reminds me of when we had to make an "introduction post card" about ourselves in the first week of senior year for one class. There were a bunch of questions that we could choose to answer on the piece of paper and draw a picture about it. One question I answered was "what is my favorite sport" so I put "Figure skating because because I'm gay and the woman are so pretty" and drew a figure skater with "gay" in rainbow bubble letters next to her. My teacher genuinely thought I meant that watching the sport just makes me really happy.
Established titles is a bit of a scam, for example according to Scottish law, A. you Don't own the land, and B. You are not a lord / lady from simply owning land.
If you remember Jurassic Park for the seatbelt, why don't you remember Alan Grant talking about how some frogs spontaneously change sex? If frogs can do it, obviously God is okay with it!
Well technically you could (for the lightsaber one) they'd just have to be smart enough to move away from the heat and the other would have to be really steady and careful
I purchased an Established Titles plot of land for my teenage daughter for Christmas last year. She kept saying she, like Lucy Van Pelt, wanted real estate as her Christmas gift. She loved it. ❤
Thank you Jamie ! Your videos share me up a lot !!! Especially rn.. one of my "friend" keeps dead naming me because I didn't call her by her nickname.. And she doesn't understand how a nickname is really different from a chosen name, even when I try to explain to her, and everytime I make her upset she misgender me and dead name me, I just want to fucking cry, she also say things like "I identify as a motorcycle." Even if I tell her that offensive and that she needs to stop. I tryed to forgive her but idk what to do.. if any of you have advice, plz I will accept anything to end this "friendship"
i've kind of been questioning my gender lately so far i've realised idk what the fvck a gender is 😅 reflecting on some childhood memories, i think i've always been like this. like "ppl call me girl so it must be true" but i dont think i feel like any gender at all so i'm considering identifying as nb/genderless or something (i know nobody asked i just wanted to share)
@@science_bear I did not intend that I want to be a homophobe, and that was not the interpretation of the original comment I came to (I'd be happy for you to elaborate if you disagree as I may be ignorant to a detail that has led to your conclusion). What I personally meant is that it can be difficult to know if one is trully non binary and it is easy to just accept what people tell you as adults are who teach us everything and we cannot question the biases from a young age. I resonated with the perceived experience of the original post, but given your comment I'm guessing you came to a rather different conclusion.
@@science_bear I am unfamiliar with the incident you are referring to, but nonbinary people are not innately homophobic. Many nonbinary people are lesbians or gay and gender identity does not innately result in homophobia. Perhaps there may be some homophobic nonbinary people, but just as because of one action by an individual does not represent the views of that group, the same is true for nonbinary people.
You know, I made a friend a few years back, lovely person. I wasn't sure of what pronouns they preferred, so I asked. She/they pronouns, never argued, never asked stupid questions, if a person identifies as a certain gender, who cares? She's been a wonderful person and we have many interests in common and a have a similar sense of humour. I'm cis, btw, but I'm also a part of the LGBTQ+ community and an ally for anyone to be able to live their lives without being judged or mocked. The only thing one should be judged for is there behavior and how they treat their fellow person
The gay frogs thing comes from an Alt-right radio host named Alex Jones. He made an off-handed comment where he said that "Chemicals in the water are turning the frogs gay". After that, frogs became almost, adopted as a mascot for the gay community.
Thank you for uploading this. I just had my first really bad panic attack and this really helped me calm down after it was over. You’re always so positive and happy and I really needed it right now. So thank you Jamie, please keep doing what you’re doing.
Hey Jaime As always, I like your content. I know you can't see this, but someone just pointed out that your sponsor is a scam. ESTABLISH TITLES IS A SCAM!!!!
just wanted to celebrate here that i have my first T shot scheduled for january 10th!!! sending love to all of you, esp in these times when you might be around non-loving family
HEY JAMIE, SORRY TO WRITE IN ALL CAPS BUT PEOPLE NEED TO SEE THIS, I STABLISHED TITLES IS A SCAM THAT MANY RU-vidRS HAVE FALLEN FOR, (SO I PLACE NO BLAME ON YOU). THE CLICK AND MANY OTHER RU-vidRS HAVE COME FORWARD TO LET THEIR VIEWERS KNOW ABOUT THIS AND I FEEL THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT OTHER PEOPLE ADVERTISING IT SHOULD KNOW. (again, i don't like commenting in all caps and i really love your content, i just don't want there to be trouble on you channel. ❤) edit: I just realized that Jamie has mentioned on a podcast that he doesn't read his comments much
I think the frogs came about because of televangelist and cartoon homophobe Alex Jones, who went on an absolutely unhinged rant about "chemicals in the water that turn the frickin frogs gay" which we as a community decided was absolutely hilarious. All frogs are gay now.
Which many people think he was correct on because another man faked a study about chemicals causing frogs to become intersex. Nobody has been able to recreate his study so it's considered to be worthless but most people never get past the fact that it was published (he had friends on the review board)
I just recently found this channel, and just spent the whole day watching your channel with a diff account. Just watching you for one day has made me feel so comfortable and understood. I'm bisexual, and I have never really come to terms with this information, until now, and I'm so happy that you could be a part of this. Also, I just noticed your adorable squid plus in the background, and neeeeed one, it's just so cute!
I dream of the day when someone asks me what my gender is and I can answer it "A black void with a frog eating a single Reese's cup". I'm a closeted Agender Pan with a... not-so-accepting Lesbian mom. Luckily I have plenty of friends who support me and also the internet where I can reveal stuff without my mom giving me a two hour lecture.
Love you, Jammie! Thanks for being the positive and fun person you are where others can see because you made my day. :D I hope you're having a lovely November!
Before I even accepted myself as "not straight," quite a few people already knew, so anytime I made a slightly dubious comment, usually just meant to be funny or indicate a lack of my dating experience (ex., "I've never had a _boyfriend"_ ), they thought I was "subtly" coming out to them. Looking back on it makes some of those interactions quite funny.
that "flirting with homophobia" story reminds me of how I went to New Orleans a few years ago and a woman tried to flirt with me by whispering racist jokes into my ear.
I was in the French Quarter after a college football game and I started talking to this woman in a college football T-shirt and after about two minutes she leaned in and asked me a riddle with the N-word in it. That's all the detail I remember, as much as I would love to indulge someone's football team loyalty by saying which team she was wearing.
