If you've been watching him from the beginning of the most powerful two stroke oh, you'll see that through time he's progressed so much. But since he is a crazy perfectionist and won't let the tiniest of things go oh, he gets stuck on little things in a good way.

Good quality rc servo's have high torque and fast response times,they'll also be ball raced for smooth action and have metal gears , cheap ones have plastic gears and bushings which can wear quite quickly and strip gears

Alex, what if you mount the engine on a low friction torque arm which is free to rotate, except that your load cell is the restraining device. Then you might be able to keep all the reactive forces from your pump, along with your belt reduction losses isolated from your shaft torque. In this manner, you can measure shaft torque and RPM directly at the engine. This would give you an accurate horsepower value. If you ISO certify your load cell and rpm instruments, you could produce ISO certified dyno runs. Your first belt drive should ONLY be able to transmit torque forces from the primary (crankshaft) sheave.

@2STROKE STUFFING have you seen the drive system invented by “CeramicSpeed” for bicycles? It’s a chain-less drive system that’s supposed to be 99% efficient and fits a LOT more gears than you could traditionally via. drive sprockets....the machining / development could be difficult but, it would likely be more efficient than shiv-drive and would be able to maintain nearly constant RPM given the close gear spacing of 13-26 speeds. Keep up the good work; excited for the dyno!!!

You can get rid of the springs and run a "pull pull" setup with a cable to pull the valve open and one to pull it shut. A lot of RC airplanes and helicopters run pull pull (cables) or push pull (rods). You can eliminate slop and load on the servo at the same time.
@PHUSII

@jasonbirch1182

I would try using a counteracting pull/pull cable setup like steering on a boat. Then you have more control. Also you have to consider that with the throttle closed or at partial throttle the vacuum will make it struggle even more. Having the pull/pull cable allows the servo to pull it shut when the weak springs may not.

I'm telling you if you end up putting too much fuel at it you're going to need to add more spark or it won't ever light. You'll either need a second spark plug or an auxiliary glow plug to be able to get all that nitro to light off, especially without it being supercharged or anything. Oh and where you said more nitro.. actually it'd be less at Bonneville. The Salt Flats are at 1285m of elevation and depending on temperature I know the AD can go way higher than that.

Awesome stuff lovein it. You mentioned longer softer springs ,longer to close valve fully but in theory could slow closing as softer. Hard to pick not being first hand seeing it operate but if your little softer and 10mm longer just stretch the spring evenly that are in there you'll get same result. Plus have to watch video again but I'll comment brace cable both sides where it connects to slide solid fixture then to help return slide but you probably have, shorter cable less bend ,. You may have servo speed in tuning it ,also bigger servo 25kg minumin/steel gears bigger is better. All the best loven it

for a better response, find a decent premium servos, for airplane you can check rudder servos that has a very fast speed and response, or steering servos for 1:10 in road rc racing, mind the latency coming from the control system since it will introduce broader issues affecting whole system.

Not always, on a two stroke bike, if you shut too quick you (or rather the engine) is going to suffer from oil starvation. On a complete different level, guaranteed to give you (this time you) the frigth of your life, is having the throttles (cables) stuck in the full open position. Not even the key can kill the engine while it's revving at 8000+

Suggest to check that air pressure difference across the throttle plate does not push the throttle plate against the body so hard that the spring can't return it. Maybe some experience of these devices out there in the speedway community, the Blixt carburetor is a little similar.

Hey dude, Whats the part number of the servo you're currently using? I can gaurentee there will be a cheap powerful servo available from hobbyking thatll do the job, and if not, futaba and hitec will definitely have one strong enough, might pay to scrap the cable and put a solid linkage too, also some needle rollers for the slide channels will help make the valve move smoother. Fuck i love watching this build, got me through 6 months of lockdown last year in melbourne. If you want any help searching for an appropriate servo let me know.

Hey,.don’t you get a beter result in finetuning when you use a butterfly valve, the same as in a throttlebody. I am building one myself with a 40mm diameter, and it is easy to make. Also use a servo tester with a dial knob, so you can move the servo. Then you dont need a arduino and laptop for testing.
