"The Brass City". "The Dirty Water". Call it what you will, but Waterbury has never exactly been thought of as a fishing destination. Don't be fooled, though... there are plenty of opportunities available for anglers on the Naugatuck River as it courses past 100,000 people in one of Connecticut's largest cities.
In this episode, I grab my old 5wt and head down to an urban stretch of the Central Naugatuck Valley to do some fly fishing for energetic rainbow trout. Enjoy, folks!

Dude that was a hell of a fish for the Naugatuck. That would be nice even for the Farmington.

Hey! Welcome back! Was getting little worried glad you replied with a reply of you needed a reprieve! Much needed Im sure! Love this new one because of how you explain and try to educate us all on where to work the flies and actually dissect the river into sections working each and every possible trout holding spots. . Nice job as always! Another great informative and exciting video with a whole lot of beautiful rainbows! Man, that big hen was a net filler! Keep up the great vids and your information on how and why and what to use is hard to find. Take care and as always, Tightlines!

There is a program in Japan that is selectively breeding rainbow trout to survive at higher temperatures. Currently, they have been successful at producing a strain of rainbow trout that can survive at temps from 68 to 80 F for 4 months. They can comfortably feed and grow at 75 F and offspring can hatch and rear at 62 F. This could mean that in 10-20 years from now if the state decides to stock this strain we could see viable year-round trout fisheries in waters like the Naugatuck which would normally only be inhabited by fallfish and dink smallmouth. Who knows what the future of selective breeding trout holds.

Are you using a dry fly or something with strike indicator? That area of the river has some deep holes

Bantam is a suggestion I’ve gotten often. Never fished it actually, but definitely going to get there at some point over the coming year. Thanks for watching!

You bet! Living not far from the Naugatuck, I usually fish there several times a year, so a vid from that water now and again is a must.

Great video! Did you post a video of you fishing the Black River in VT that I just missed?
@ConnecticutAngler
@ConnecticutAngler 2 года назад
Nope, Black River was filmed in mid June. All that VT footage is still queued up for editing along with some VT small stream stuff, as well. Just working through the rest of May and early June first. I’m waaaaay behind right now, as you can tell.😂

Hey how cold was the water?
@ConnecticutAngler

This was back in late May, so it was still pretty damn cold.

What time of you year did you film this? I hit the naugy often but this time of year I haven't hit a rainbow
@ConnecticutAngler
@ConnecticutAngler 2 года назад
This was filmed in late May. From late July onwards, I generally stick to smallie fishing in this section of the river. You’ll bump into residual stockers sometimes, but the river typically warms up so much by July that they aren’t long for this world.
