Flying the DJI Mavic Pro in Nepal

I had only flown a drone twice in my life before bringing the Mavic to Nepal. Needless to say, I'm a rookie. This footage is taken from the Three Passes Trek in the Everest region. The shots at :33 are from Kongma La Pass, 18,192ft, the shots at 1:36 are Renjo La, 17,536ft and at 1:42 is the top of Gokyo Ri, 17, 575ft. Although many of the shots are not very sharp, it gives you an idea of the mind blowing beauty of the Himalayas. I obviously need to work on focusing this thing :) I'm just happy that I didn't crash it!

That's some amazing footage, i'm going to go to himalayas next year, i'll also be be bringing my dji mini 2 on Gokyo trek, i hope i'll be able to capture some amazing footage, but i'm afraid it won't be able to take off in that altitude , because it says the Max Service Ceiling Above Sea Level on mini 2 is only 4000m, but i simply hope i'll be able to fly even tho the specs say otherwise. Also did you have a permit? I've heard it's expensive, so i'm actually thinking i'd better risk my drone than buy the permit, considering drone costs less than the actual permit to take videos there. I've heard if you do while not many people are around and the sound isn't big, most of the time they won't notice if you don't go that high up from the starting point. Any tips?

Bad ass video! Mother Nature truly has some amazing places to offer. It's so cool that drone technology has allowed us access to these view points by everyday people. With the music and all, I thought I was watching a National Geographic clip lol

DJI should update firmware to add a default infinity focus option. 99.9% of all drone video footage requires it. Use a Custom button to set focus and keep pressing it ever minute or so.

I TOTALLY agree!! I love the Mavic, but the one thing I hate is the focus, all you need is infinity. I've gotten better at remembering to focus now, check out my more recent videos

It actually worked a lot better than I thought at those altitudes. I didn't have any reduced flight time. Thanks for watching

hi! I really enjoyed your video, so beautiful! but i have some questions. Did you have any problems at the airport while passing your drone? There some places were flying the drone was prohibited? Im thinking on traveling to Nepal in a few months, but i have so many questions that only people like you can answer. Thank you so much for sharing!

Mariah Pa I had no problem getting the drone into Nepal. Took it carry on. There are some restrictions on where you can fly, they’ll be posted. Have fun

Your fitness far surpasses mine. I was at 10,000ft level last year in the Sierra Nevada's and I had to stop every 50 feet of walking to suck wind. I would have been dead at 18,000ft.

At what altitude were you flying and what do you think is the limit it can safely fly?

I was standing at 18,000ft many times, and the drone was higher and had no problems...not sure what the max altitude is...but it handled 18-19k feet like a champ!

if you are starting from higher altitude should you max the cut off out so you dont have issues or does it start from height you took off from?

I keep mine at 400feet max alt. around my area. Going to Adirondacks this summer again. Last year didn't have the drone on our mountain hike. So just wanna know if it will drop if I'm already up few thousand feet or should i max it out to be safe?

Hi, I don't own a Mavic pro but I've had a Phantom 3 Professional for about a year now. The max alt. you set in the DJI Go App is calculated from the Home point, that's why you should be careful when flying in the mountains : if you start at the bottom of a hill and climb it while flying, the max alt still is calculated from where you took off and you might have to re set it in order to be able to go on higher. I actually only had one battery...so I didn't film near as much as I would have liked. But every lodge has a place where you can charge batteries

There wasn't a problem flying it, although you're supposed to have a permit.

But is it possible to get permission for example for whole 7days trekk? As I can see in application form you have to specify exact place and date of start-landing etc. is this permission free?
