On the long trips the weight of food can get very heavy. My adult son and I like 3 week trips in the fall. All our food is home dried. For day food we have granola with dried milk, pancakes with peanut butter or bacon, cheese and homemade pilot biscuits. We can't face cliff bars anymore, lol! Thanks for sharing your food choices. I'm looking forward to seeing your canoe trip!
Holy! You & your Boy are eating like Kings! Looks like a great adventure Mike, an experience your Son will never forget. I'm sure your planning an in depth report... will be EPIC! Thank you very much for sharing. :)
Glad to know I am not the only one that packs that much food LOL. Yea our barrel comes in a about 45 LBS for 10 days. I really like the Marla bag idea too.
For the most part it's not a problem. The last few years I've been doing these trips with my young son which meant double carrying on the portages. You can bring a lot more food when you double carry :)
Great video, very informative. You should follow this up with a cooking and dehydrating video lol. What are the "oxygen tabs" that you spoke of? I think some of this would work to help keep weight down on a fly in outpost trip.
Thanks Barney! There is already countless videos on youtube on how to cook and dehydrate food, do a quick search! You're absolutely right about the applications for fly in fishing! It's a no brainer to be honest. Making a few meals at home and dehydrating them is something I'll be doing myself going forward for fly-in's. The oxygen tabs are more correctly called "oxygen absorbers". You know the small pouches you find inside some food packages for freshness? Go on amazon and do a search for mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Cheers
Excellent video, thanks for sharing. I'm heading into Algonquin for 4 days with my son on May 15th and I was curious about the specific brand of canned chicken you prefer for dehydrating. Hope you have a great trip.
Don't think brand matters a whole lot, just make sure it's chunks. Pretty sure I chose a low sodium variety of the Presidents Choice brand, but it's really personal preference. Have a great trip with your son!
