For Honor (PC, PS4, Xbox One) is Ubisoft's attempt at brutal realistic multiplayer warrior combat. Is it worth all the hype it's been getting? Jake breaks it down. Subscribe for more: / gameranxtv
I liked this game quite a bit and praised the combat. If you think I'm hating on the game, I don't know what to tell you. I can critique certain elements of your favorite game and still love the game overall. If I didn't have ANY negatives at all you guys would think I'm being too easy on games
The game is great. Yes it has flaws, but it honestly does not even match up with the positives that this game has. They just need to have dedicated servers, fix the bleed damage, and that's pretty much it. The combat is unique and something fresh. The whole 2v1, 3v1 thing solely depends on your skill because I've won a lot of those, and even survived a lot of 4v1s. So on that matter gameranx, Git Gud. Other than that, it's a solid ass game. I recommend everyone who's complaining to try the game out at least, and just give it back if you don't like it. That's that.
dude let them get epic gear. I could give 2 shits if they did. That's not stopping me from murdering them cuz I know how to play! lol I reached Reputation 1 level 17 in the beta and rekt sooooooo many people. 1v1, 2v1, 3v1, 4v1, you name it. Idc if they buy it, let them. I know I'm not. I also know that's not stopping me from fucking them up. Gear only affects Dominion and Elimination, and it's not an OP kind of gear system either, so I still don't see the problem there anyways. Don't worry bout it. Just git gud and no more complaints
I'm still not a 100% convinced to buy. Not so much about tactics, microtransactions etc. just I don't know. Don't feel it yet. If it keeps up the hype maybe.
No mention that this game has p2p and not dedicated servers? For a big budget AAA game that focuses on precision and reflexes, that's just bad. Stay away from this week one folks.
My most satisfying moment during the beta was when I held a point and was against 3 fuckers, they banged me and then I got the revenge, I parried the first one so he fell then I grabbed the second one threw him away from the tower, parried the third one and executed him, the first one ran away after this. Never felt this badass before.
I refuse to use the keyboard, the controller feels so much better. Although, the trade off is that your reacting with your thumbs and not your arm, which is slightly slower and gets me killed more often. Would I go to keyboard then? Hell no.
@@frostyazurez2203 in short if you don't mind the occasional gank and cheap play styles it's a fun pvp fighting game of you ever played Spartacus legends on PS3 the combat feels similar
Gotta say, this is the first review I've completely disagreed with. Me and all my friends love the hell out of this game. A lot. It's so much fun for all the reasons Jake didn't like it. Fighting groups are bad, so don't travel alone because numbers are power. If you can still take opponents in groups, you're a good player. But what's awesome is that sometimes people WILL watch and let you 1 v 1 another player. Seeing your whole team get destroyed in elimination an then having the whole enemy team take you on one at a time out of respect was one of the coolest moments I had in the game. All of the modes fit every mood you're in with how much variety their is, and none of the classes are broken (some just perfectly counter the other). I think this just isn't Jake's kind of game and that's about it (and nothing is wrong with that). Maybe, to the person reading this, this isn't your game either. But I would still 100% recommend you to buy it. If you want to wait a bit for a price drop or something, then ok. But I would not pass For Honor up. It's a good game. ...yeah, the campaign is a breeze though. That being said, it's cool factor was pretty damn high. This is all just my opinion though.
i know the campaign is so much fun it's ridiculous i was expecting it to be ass but i played the whole thing before i even touched the multiplayer again.
I had the same thing last night, I played with a friend 2v2 duel and my friend got slaughtered. His opponent did not attack me and waited for my initial duel to end. It was indeed a very cool moment.
Can you tell is it new player friendly I mean do it have lvl system where new player cant win old player due to them having high level? Or is it only skill based?
Guys. Look at Rainbow Six Siege, it has no campaign with literally one game mode and is still a thriving game. Overwatch has no campaign and is really thriving right now, already with several events, updates, added content..etc. What is the difference with this game? It's basically going to head the same route as Rainbow Six and Overwatch mark my words. The argument that it gets repetitive and having a decent story to not buy the game is really weak. Majority of big games nowadays focus on MULTILAYER. CoD has done it for years and is still doing it.
epicsoul 1337 Rainbow Six has hostage or bomb. I don't count that other terrorist hunt game mode because that isn't the focus of the game nor does anyone play it. Essentially R6S has ONE mode because the user is only given one option to choose from when wanting to play online. Plus, it's not like we get to choose whether or not we want to play Hostage or Bomb.
I am debating whether to buy For Honor when it comes down in price (15 EUR or 18 dollars). In which case, the single player needs to be good as I will have already missed the multiplayer hype train and the single player is pretty much all I'll be playing it for. Worth it? Didn't sound like it to be honest. But I am still interested by a combat system that isn't reliant on dodge a la Soulsborne or lords of the fallen.
Carlos Hernandez dude this says before we buy it.... dude fuck this guy he's not google nor is he intelligent, just a stupid fucking teenager trying to make money because he can not get a REAL job.
JJ The jetplane same I spent too much time on the last mission I bum rushed the whole campaign on realistic just to get that 5,000 steel and it was sort of worth it but not really besides that it's a great game
imma sound like a cunt but i played the campaign on realistic straight away and i didnt fail one mission and the apollyon fight only took a few minutes, it really isnt hard.
JJ The jetplane played story on realistic. it was tough but got use to the invisible guard attacks. i mostly played it so i can get the cool lawbringer ornament.
10 months later and I have 20 days into the game, I fucking love the combat and rewarding feeling of defeating someone equal, or better. Dedicated servers are on the way so hopefully this game pulls a Siege and has a strong second year.
+Butmen Teh Derp Night Rizes the only thing close to mount and blade is directional attack and guard, that's about it. for honor is a class based game with special movesets. not really like mount and blade tbh.
Warriorboat190 Most new games that come out are around $60. It's ridiculous. NO GAME is worth that much. A flagship title should always start at around $30 maybe $35 max. This game should be $10 considering how short the campaign is.
I know until now that you can play the multiplayer offline vs bots , but you can enter the game offline? or you must be connected to the internet to open the game? and my final question is their is a multiplayer mod when you defend a castle from an army attack not only 1 vs 1 , that mod you can play it offline?
The game has issues but I can't name a single game that feels so rewarding to win multiplayer games, especially duels/brawls. The game has a lot of issues but I'm already addicted so oh well. :p
it needs work against in 2 vs 1 or 3 vs 1 situations where you simply shouldn't be able to survive that...at the same time how would you make it so it doesn't turn down into a gang fest?
practice practice practice that's the answer here. custom match damage to 0 and 3 or more bots v you alone. you can practice all day long. eventually you'll git gud....
Erik J It's not rigged my guy. It happens on all newly posted RU-vid videos unless all RU-vidrs are botting likes. And be real if they were botting likes it would be waaay more than tht.
Made by Ubisoft Montreal. Why hasn't anybody seen what I'm seeing. This game is simply a test for the new combat system in their Next Major Assassin's Creed title.
Sup Bro Someone. Else. Realized it. Praise the lord, I'm not alone. Also, look at some running animations and tell me they don't look like modified AC animations
So we worked on a game during 5 years just to 'test for the new combat system of next AC?'' B*tch please. AC will never use a gameplay like that. It would be dumb. Did you know Ubi MTL made Far Cry, Rayman, Child of lights, Rainbow Six, Prince of Persia, Splinter cell and many others? We're not only about AC.. absolutely not.
People who say something sucks or is amazing lack the vocabulary and critical thinking skills to articulate the pros and cons about something... nuff salad..
I can definitely see how that guy didn't see the sarcasm in that. You have to be mindful cause ur emotions can't really shine through in comments section.
Playing against an honorable player in this game makes for the most intense, fun, brutal, fast-paced and tactical fights you will ever experience in a videogame. Every hit you give and receive will feel deserved, and combos, even if you're the one being killed by it, will feel exhilarating... that being said, those kinds of fights are rare. Most people will spam combos and tactics that the majority of the community doesn't know how to counter yet. In 2v2's and 4v4's, players will constantly gang up on one player, or run away if they are losing (mostly Samurai do these). For Honor is an example of a great game but a terrible community, which is ironic considering the title. Either Ubisoft needs to vigilantly stamp out these cheesy tactics, or the community needs to stop spamming them, both of which are actually somewhat likely. I was exited for this game and still am. I haven't bought it yet, but I'm checking up on it on a weekly basis. Please don't buy this game blindly, but don't brush it away and forget about it either.
Diesel Kitten totally agree can't stand getting ganged up on and then the broken revenge meter won't appear but yet the no skilled bitch boys who wanna team up on one guy get revenge. like wtf. if that happens I find a cliff or ladder or somewhere I can push them off and they fall. its funny and makes them rage quit and teaches them that teaming up on just one guy is for no skilled punks.
"Booo hooo, play the game how I want you to play it, waaaaah" If you don't like being gang-banged dont play 4v4 or 2v2. And if you're getting "cheesed" in 1v1, learn from your mistakes and git gud. If you're good enough you can beat anyone with any class and counter any tactic
Of course I did. TL.DR; he's a pussy. Probably the kind of player that rage quits a duel if you push him off a ledge, because he thinks its a cheesy and "dishonorable" tactic
Damn I remember like three years ago I watched a video on this of you guys mentioning this game for like 30 seconds. I then thought, “ wow that’s not for me”. Then last year I pick up the game not remembering the video you mentioned it in. I haven’t been able to stop playing since.
I'd love to see a dynasty warriors meets something like maybe...armored core/front mission? Where you can collect body parts/weapons and change your loadout.
A multiplayer game with shitty single-player campaign is like a single-player game with shitty multiplayer campaign. I don't understand why would people ever cry about the single-player campaign on a MULTIPLAYER game.
I don't get that too. In the video they put this like a big con. Just doesn't make sense to me. Like you said it's a multiplayer game which excels in online combat.
RookieN08 Because it seems like every fucking game that is released is multiplayer focused, multiplayer this, multiplayer that. Its fucking bullshit! There are still people who enjoy single player gaming and thats where gaming SHOULD be going!
I love this game to death. I just feel like the gameplay is so satisfying after you master a particular class and learn the strategies to use on particular other classes. It's a lot more in depth then many would believe and for me at least a huge breath of fresh air into AAA titles
I feel like ,in a way, you're not supposed to be able to defeat 3 different guys at once. the realistic part gets thrown in there. I think the game tries pushing you to avoid those situations on a realistic stand point. I also don't get why you said the campaign was bad. I actually loved it. The whole chapter thing and playing as basically everyone really gets you into the game. And I feel like the whole exploiting the combat thing is something only really shitty players would do. I also think that those type of players don't play for honor.
Some1 try building an orochi with revenge gear, u can go 1v4 and they can keep reviving their dead enemies so it'll be like 1v10..but u can still fck em up
i once fought against a dude who single handedly won a round by killing all me and the other 3 of my teammates even when we grouped up on them. I was so impressed i wasnt even a little bit mad that we lost the game.
People complain about getting 1v2 fights while playing dominion. Honestly though, for me thats the best part. especially geeting 1v4ed and killing them all just feels GOOD man. And the reactions you get from both allies and enemies is just golden.
johnny madness Haven't played this game yet but its okay to have microtransacrions in overwatch because those items can be earned through grinding. Destiny has things that can ONLY be bought.
jake, why didnt you mention if there is a clan mechanic or if you can party up with your friends, that would be a huge part of me considering an online only competitive pvp game
I just got for honor for Xbox one and I haven't played it yet but I heard the games player base is shrinking. Im wondering if I should get a refund and buy a different game/games or just keep it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?
Jake, you forgot to mention that there will be FREE updates to the game every three months that add a plethora of content, kinda like what Rainbow Siege 6 did. I think this will help the longevity of the game. The combat is never BS at times, only certain classes (peacekeeper *cough* *cough*) seem BS but once you learn their weaknesses and what classes are particularly strong against them, they are easy to beat. The campaign is a slur though but the focus of this game is online competitive gameplay, and a great progression system similar to Overwatch's. Just my 2 cents
i Hope EA help Ubisoft by adding Jedi and Sith classes in the game.. adding an paid dlc with overpowered siths and jedi's like when they block with lightsaber the swords, axes and everything else just melts and every attack with light saber is a one hit kill.
Not a huge fan of the 1v1 map designs. Usually 2/3 rounds have way too much focus on environmental threats which in my opinion detracts a bit from the experience.
The environment is a core mechanic in this game. I love how I can use footwork to force the enemy assassin into a corner so they can't dodge teleport. That being said though, some maps are just skinny bridges that force both players to spam the guard block button til someone falls off the edge. I love the use of walls in this game but the cliffs and pitfalls are a bit too common.
You probably won't ever read this but if you do, let me tell you this: the game can feel cheesy if you're just starting out, didn't play it enough or you're simply bad and can't grasp the game's mechanics. Is throwing people off ledges cheap? Definitely, is it cheesy or broken? Absolutely not, you just need to be aware of your surroundings, your skill in this game determines everything, if you are really really good in this game you will not lose a single fight. The game is actually very, very well made in terms of combat and is superb in terms of how competitive it is.
some people are lucky and easily grasp the game which makes it seem funner and you won't have to rely on throwing as much as perfect parring/blocking, using combo attacks [like RMB than middle click] and using revenge
Kardarius Randle Fighting more than two people, more than 1 in general is one of the things that will take even hundreds of hours to master, and even if you knew how to do it you're probably better off retreating and cooperating with your team.
IMO the tracking of some attacks in almost all of the classes is ridiculous at times but other than that for the most part its a pretty solid game to pass time. Enjoyable and rewarding to git gud at. Coming from dark souls and battlefield series I really enjoy the challenge this game gives me. At times I wish there was a way to dodge guard breaks but at other times the guard break tracking feels realistic. Also really makes you think hard about what fights you want to go through with, trying to test yourself against a heavy and hoping for the best, or just going around him for an easier target to hopefully level up and get some more perks.
I love this game. I've mainly played hybrid characters, but the assassin ones are fun for me too. The combat may seem exploitable, but there's really a counter to everything people are spamming. Mostly counter guard breaks and dodges can turn it around on them. The main thing to keep in mind is button mashing won't work here. the buttons have to be timed to just the right instant so reaction time is a must.
We will probably see OP characters get nerfed, but from experience with Ubisoft games I predict it will either take too long, or they'll nerf the character too much, or both (a la blackbeard). The peacekeeper got a nerf when the full game launched, but it was arguably too much. Yes, the triple stab was a bit too strong, but now there's no reason to use it over a heavy attack as the heavy does more and does it instantly. It's not gamebreaking at the moment I just hope it doesn't happen to too many other characters
This is the last gamernax video I'll be watching. They didn't even mentioned the issues regarding Ubisofts dicision with adding peer to peer connection, or the fact there is "micro"transactions on a $60 game. Only fools will defend this practice, especially children.
You sir, need to do research. Someone already mentioned its Client based servers. P2P doesn't have any servers. And the micro transactions don't affect what kind of gear you get, only aesthetics and some progression (Just play anyway). I think the rewards of end game are given based on level ^^
Where do you get the client based servers from lol? Ubisoft says themselves that its P2P: www.pcgamesn.com/for-honor/for-honor-multiplayer-connection-peer-to-peer
I can't get past the training on the PC mode. Basically, the PC won't let me do the counter throw, which I am told is a key move for being successful in game. I'll try again later though, it may have simply been a bug from porting over to PC. I could always attempt to do it with a Xbox one controller...
Crash Schwarzenegger in short, peer to peer means no servers. There's a direct internet connection to all "peers" (players). That wouldn't normally be a problem, but the peer to peer design in this game was done horably touchy. Slightest bit of lag causes instant pauses and disconnects for little to no reason.
i shine on 1v2's you have to get good at switching between fighters. its just one of those things you need practice with. it does take i bit ill give u that.
Jesus christ, the comment section is full of fanboys, haters, downers, hypers, and overall retards. Look, I played the beta and was looking forward to this game ever since it got announced at E3. Overtime my 'hype' got dwindled and I began to feel spectacle of how good it would be. I played the beta and I have to say; the game is fun as fuck. However, that is one of my only pros of the game (for me). I've enjoyed games like M&B, Chivalry, WotR, etc. and so have many other steam users interested in that type of content. And at this point, For Honor barely even compares to those games, and that showed in the beta steam reviews. (44% positive) The people on console will love this game though, they don't have games like these and have been wanting them for awhile. Now to my issues with the game after I have stated the overall pc opinion and my background. The servers are shit, the combat is meh, and the content is less then meh. Servers for most people have had a tendency to kick people, disconnect, or downright not let you play. The devs of this game call the combat innovative and such, however I cannot disagree with them more. There are three directions of attacking and blocking that give you a red flashing indicator and more then .8-1.5 seconds to respond to that. How is that challenging? The human average response time is .25 seconds. I like to compare this to Mount and Blade; 4 directions, no indicators, and about .4-1 second of response time varying on the weapon. "The break mechanic is innovative." No, M&B has kicking, Chivalry has 'breaking', and WotR has shield bashes. The "revenge" mechanic is complete bullshit imo. You can spend a full 3 minutes fighting someone just to get them down to 2% of their health with confidence that you are going to win and BAM. They pop the revenge and you're dead. What? With other little things such as animation glitches, cheesy tactics, and slightly overpowered (not being nerfed/changed since Alpha) characters, it really makes the overall combat system very icky. The content in this game is fairly low considering they decided to do characters instead of classes like Rainbow Six: Siege did aswell. There are 3 maps for one mode. Damn that's worse then Overwatch. "Oh but there will be free content." Yes, after you paid $60-100 and the game is already dead. Speaking of which... $100 for the full game.. WTF? Will I buy this game? No. Will I buy this game when it's on sale for $20-30 in a few months? Possibly. 4.5/10
Honestly this is a fair evaluation. I question micro transactions in a $60 title and peer to peer? Come on that is archaic and a cheap ploy by Ubisoft to not have to pay for servers. The micro transactions should at least support dedicated servers and I really mean that at the least.
Matt Completely agree. Those are the biggest issues with the game as a whole for everyone right now. I want to try to focus on the things that are against popular opinion in the game.
Let me put it this way. Many people are complaining about the play style of some people on this game, but it's part of the game. If you get thrown of the ledge, that's because you put yourself in that situation. Many people are complaining about the game and how it "should be played" when really it's how they want it to be played. I personally do throw off people, because it is part of the game. Also, everything is able to be countered in this game in some way or another. All you gotta do is figure out how instead of complaining about it. Once you master that there will be nothing to complain about......or just don't play the game anymore XD
I loved the campaign, isn't boring at all, I really felt euforia and I played on hard mode and that last battle orichi vs Apollyon really makes you feel like the best player on earth, found an emotional feeling of it, and I totally love the campaign.
I think he is talking about ubisoft servers. Yes, in-game it's p2p (which is utterly retarded) but you still need to connect to ubisoft servers, otherwise you wouldn't be able to connect to the other people.
Watashi WaA oh, for sure. I bought the dlc but I still think it shouldn’t be the only way realistically to earn the heroes. Hopefully the p2p era ends soon
Tide Pod actually p2p is peer to peer, he’s referring to how players in combat relied on each other’s connection rather than having dedicated servers, but that was a long time ago
I played it for the first time today and I thought the combat was pretty awesome you were right about the game not being able to handle multi character combat if it's a 3v1 it's hard for your character to withstand it all.
I really love this game. It's been a while since I've played a multiplayer game and didn't get bored or completely outmatched within a few days (Overwatch). But that's the thing. I'm actually good at this game and want to get even better. That competitive attitude is what keeps me wanting to play. Deus Vult, my friends.
great review. will wait for price drop. my fave review of this game on Steam: "Imagine eating the best food you´ve ever ate with plastic cutlery that breaks every 5 mins."
Feels like this game has been misconceived as some kind of Action-RPG Hack&slash, cuz' this is definitely a competetive fighting game very similiar to games like Tekken, just with a very different spin. I've also observed a very distinct disparity in the level of enjoyment based on how much they usually play/enjoy said games (Tekken and Soul Calibur in our case) around my friends.
Alex Thorne I agree, I see a lot of people complaining about orrochi and peace keeper. this confuses me because when you get a basic understanding of the game they are not difficult to beat, but the same thing happens in tekken people get mad because certain characters have long range attacks its "broken" apparently like you can't side step it.
Alex Thorne i dont really know how to think about this game... kinda waiting for tekken 7. but since it will be coming out 2nd of june.. im looking for a fun game. and i have my doubts about for honor. i cant compare it to tekken because it doesnt give me that impression
I wouldn't specifically say it plays like Tekken, but it definitely feels somewhat like a fighting game with each of the classes playing differently with their own movesets and with spacing and timing being an important aspect to consider. I'd say though that most footage I saw before playing in the betas didn't give me that impression either with Dominion being their main game mode to show off which is by far the least exemplar of the fighting game parallels.
SurgeAquos oh dont get me wrong! i was under the impression that you didnt mean that specificly haha , but anyway ive bought the game and i must say im pleasently suprised by the overall gameplay! dont know if its worth 100 euros.... but thats a different story hahaha
I like this game a lot but my one biggest pet peeve is how people block to stall until their teammate comes on dominion and then after a while of blocking they can use revenge and him and his teammate will reck you
