@kneedown4GOD The 6.4L used the high pressure fuel pump system. I think its a lot better than the high pressure oil pump system. thanks for watching my vids.
does the 6.4 use a hpop setup like the 6.0,s and the 7.3s?thanks for the interesting vids bro,you would think after 9 hours a day of working on cars i would be sick of it,but i love watching your vids!
Having the 4th one installed on my truck in 6 months! Changed filters 4 times in 1.5 years. Gotta get a good mechanic to start with and also Ford will only let them replace the pump sometimes when it needs a whole new fuel system.
my 08 f450 is leaking diesel from behind the engine. it does not have any loss of power and still runs good. do u think its the fuel pump or just a hose thanks
Have you ever had an issue using the teflon (ford supplied) washers on the lines on the HPFP? They torqued correctly and I cant find a leak anywhere but I'm wondering if I should've used copper. Thanks again man this thing's got me stumped. How do you check for leaks? Just energize the pump or do you think it could be a high pressure leak because even if I cycle the key and run the lift pump it's still hard to start. Thanks
Joe thanks for all these awesome videos and info. Your videos have helped me a lot in the past and I've got a 6.4 kicking my butt. Changed all injectors, lines, and HPFP. The truck runs fine and runs perfect until you get it hot and shut it off. Then it will not build rail pressure until you spin it over for about a minute or let it cool down. I've rechecked every line/fitting except the ones on the pump, does this sound familiar to you??
I just bought an 08 f250 6.4l and i had to change the high pressure pump i put all back together made a bleed tool beld the system but still wont start and i notice that i now have a leak under high pressure turbo any advice you could help me with please im starting to get fusterated and disapointed
Thats what i was thinking and Ive pulled both valve covers and retorqued injector lines and ran the engine with the covers off but I couldnt find a leak. I've checked all lines on the fuel cooler and filter housing and I've pressurized the tank and still do not visually see a leak. Will it always leak or possibly just be sucking air? I'm gonna check the lines on the HPFP next but I know I torqued them to specs.
Thanks for posting the cost as well. What a pain in the ass job. I bet your back hurts for 3 days afterwards. $3800 and special torque procedure on the fuel pump. Wow
How about a video showing how to remove the cab. Also, need to replace a clutch in a 2010 with the 6.4... Any of those vids would be great. Thanks Joe, love your videos.
from Puerto Rico, we change the pump code p088 and now we have the same problem but different code p0087 low pressure. you have any idea what wrong thanks
Awesome videos Joe! Really good stuff . I had a P0088 and a P0194 "Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Intermittent" And my truck was loosing power after 10 -15 min of driving . if i stopped and restarted it would run fine. Dealer said HPFP replacement. I replaced the high pressure pump ,HP lines and Gasket/Harness. P0088 is gone more power than it has had in years but the P0194 is still there. any suggestions ?
Your absolutely correct about the fuel fittings. Because of the "crush" cup on the end, once that seal is broken it all has to be replaced. Good video, I wish there was a little less cussing. Thanks.
What is the most trouble you have had getting one of these things to start after fuel system work? I bled my low pressure side and cracked the driver side line and have no pressure at the sensor. took the rail sensor out and cranked the engine and only got a couple drops of fuel out the sensor hole. Im starting to think my pump is bad.
+Megan Steckler make sure all fuel line are tight and no air is in the system. 6.4 are the hardest to bleed. I highly recommend using the 6.4 bleed tool.
Love your videos! I have a question though. about how much would it cost to replace the turbos. Labor only or labor and parts. I love the truck but some repair costs can get scary..... I was just wondering because i have a straight piped 6.4 and it used to spool down on shutoff. Last couple times I shut the truck off I couldn't really hear anything. I think it still builds boost fine and the truck still sounds the same as before. I'm just worried because I don't think I could afford any repair right now or in the near future. If it makes any difference I changed the oil, oil filter and fuel filters yesterday and both looked fine. Sorry for all the questions but its a big help!
Yes. Maintaining your truck is #1. I'm a big believer in deleting the EGR right back to the passenger side up pipe. You will have to re-locate the turbo back pressure censer. Adding a catch can is a +. But you have to maintain (Empty) the catch can according to how much and how hard you drive it. And watch your oil level
That tar in the turbo is from not deleting the EGR. Delete the EGR right back to the passenger side up pipe. Then install a catch can and keep that maintained. If you don't delete the DPF you will increase the Life of the DPF and internal parts of the engine. I believe the DPF is a failed attempt at emission control due to the regen process and lack of fuel economy. A well-maintained diesel engine running at the proper temperature will be better for the environment. What are the exhaust emission Reading's during regen and add the extra fuel economy of 5+ miles per gallon? During Regen owning a Ford truck is embarrassing.
i just a bought a 2008 f250 w/119k with one those 6.4 you say are so shity. it smokes at times. (one day it may and it may not) looks like it comes from under the truck and sometimes from under the hood when i stop at lights and it has a diesel fuel smell when it smokes. of course it didnt do any of this when i test drove it. the guy i bought from said the only problem he had was it had a code pop up and they replaced the high pressure fuel pump.
low pressure lines For Viton® sealing washers, using a torque adapter, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). For copper sealing washer, using a torque adapter, tighten to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft). (back up the fitting ) high pressure lines Using a torque adapter, tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in). Pre-tighten the 4 fuel rail supply tube fittings. Using a torque adapter, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). (back up the fitting) I hope this helps
you did this the hard way drop the down pipe and the right up pipe. it comes rite out no need to take turbo out if you do get the lift bracket and it is easy
i have a po0088 at 197,000 miles. I can't afford 3800 bucks for this at the dealership, I'm not a mechanic but have done a lot of different things. Is this something you would recommend a home owner could do himself with out any special tools or training. I could take a month to do it, no hurry. They want over 1,000.00 for the pump. The code read the fuel rail pressure to high?
+joediesel187 I've been very lucky with this motor, I still have the orig dpf and have never had it serviced. I'm looking for a mech exp on the 6.4 not sure if I can trust the dealer. The dpf will be gone as well as installing other aftermarket items.
@joediesel187 For sure, certain people shouldn't even be allowed to buy diesels. Luckily I don't have to worry about regen on mine anymore (; Joe, please keep us up to date on issues you guys start seeing on the 6.7's. I already saw your video on the broken glow plugs. Hopefully that doesn't happen too much, cause that ruins everything!
Hahaha yeah i work on this trucks for 22 years than I have been working on since when someone calls me back on ford 6.0 6.4 or ford i said i have a lot of work can you take it to the dealer i have no time for the next few months sorry
I can tell you what. Ive got a 6.4 and my problems have nothing to do with poor maintenance. that truck is a piece of shit and fords in general are pieces of shit, the company is a piece of shit for selling me that pos and not doing anything about it after they found out its a pos . so you can edit "this is what happens when you don't do maintenance" instead, add "this is what happens when you buy a piece of shit ford"
