Ford Explorer Electric 2024 - FULL Review in 4K (VW ID.4 Inside)
This is the all-new Ford Explorer Electric 2024 presented at the Zurich Auto Show 2024 in Switzerland.
The new Ford Explorer Electric is made in collaboration with Volkswagen on their MEB Platform and is reserved for the European market only. Ford Explorer Electric will be available with either a 52kWh or a 77kWh usable battery, just like the Volkswagen ID4. The rear wheel drive configuration with a single electric motor offers two power options; either 125 kW - 170 HP, or 210 kW - 286 HP, offering 350 km or 540 km of range by WLTP.
On display, we have the all-wheel drive with two electric motors and 250 kW - 340 HP version in Premium trim and Artic Blue Metallic color. It has a larger 77kWh battery with 490 km of range by WLTP. Towing option up to 1400 kg.
Charging speeds:
• AC 11 kW,
• DC 175 kW.
The expected price is quoted in Ford's press release as "under 45.000 €".

Why do Ford make a car that is just the same as the ID4 basically. They could atleast have made it more family friendly and add 15 cm to the boot and 40-40-20 split in the back. Add a bit of missing stuff from the ID line like VTL and camper mode, nicer seats and so on. More sporty or smaller is no option since they already have the Mustang MachE. Just atleast try to make it stand out from the crowd.

Probably much cheaper to develop it based on VW platform to get out to market quick. They don't have an electric SUV but most of their competitors do. They won't make that much on every car sold compared to doing it their own way but they keep customers in their 'brand'.

I strongly disagree. The Explorer EV is certainly not the same as the ID.4. To me, the Explorer EV represents exactly the type of car that EVs have ignored so far. What I appreciate most about it is that Ford hasn't explicitly messed anything up. They've done everything essential well.

​@@petrbasa5742 Well, it is in fact very, very close to just beeing a re-styled ID4. The ID4 is a good car apart from (in no particular order): * No pre-conditioning of the battery makes it charge slow in winter * Bad winter range because of poor battery thermal management * The battery management system seems to be rather poor so the degradation is higher than most other EV:s. * No frunk despite having room for it * 60-40-split in the rear seat makes it impractical for two kid families * No camper mode * Auto-turn-off when you leave is really annoying in warm or cold weather * Terrible software stability * No VTL * No VTG support * No VTH support * Poor seating comfort in lower end models * Bad steering wheel buttons * Poor tow weight Then Ford use the same platform to make their "own" version and what did they fix? Maybe the software if we are lucky, but apart from that they kept EVERY single drawback of the ID4. And just to be sure to not make a better car than the VW, they also removed some boot space and made the roof rack system worse. They even kept the capacitive steering wheel buttons despite making their own Ford logo steering wheel... I mean come on, they could have atleast brought in the Enyaq wheel and put a Ford logo on it. It almost seems like VW demanded that they didn´t improve the obvious flaws but kept them all, to not take market from the ID line.

Sorry, but I don't understand the constant criticism of the two buttons for launching windows. How often do you need to operate the rear windows from the driver's seat. I hardly ever do. But I do occasionally accidentally lower the rear one instead of the front one, and that annoys me unnecessarily. Dynamic turn signals are stupid and I'm very glad Ford has forgiven themselves for that.

Radar situated too low down on the car - this will not work well in Scandinavian winters. The plastic on the doors shouts 'practical, not luxury'. I'll definitely take a look at this at a local dealers to see what options there are but it's a deal breaker if that radar is so low down.

I really don't know who designed this, the height isn't enough and dangerous on speed breakers, and back AC is placed on lower side, and front space is too less unlike ford explorer 2015 .

I denmark you will get a 2 year warranty. Compare this to tesla with 4 years, Kia with 7, Xpeng with 5-7 years.........yep.......not gonna sell a whole lot.

To be fair this is there pre production car they drag through every car show where everyone touches it. Imagine it like a taxi being used for a year. Already trashed. 😅

Still laggy infotainment, the horrible controls on the wheel and in the door from the Volkswagen platform, a notice "air conditioning not available without ignition", only 2 seats in memory... Come on. I really hoped Tesla would have actual competition this year, since I want to replace the 2019 M3 with a newer model. And the other manufacturers still haven't caught up with basic stuff. I get in the car, and everything works. I don't need "ignition" in an EV. I can program as many seat options in memory as I want. The infotainment still works as snappy as 4 years ago. The only disappointing thing about the new Model 3 is the removal of stalks, but I'll take it over these "new" EV's.

Fabulous BUT STILL TOO EXPENSIVE at £50K to £80K I immediately think used Tesla Model Y at £34K These vehicles need to be built using a Tesla casting process using giga and mega casting machines to allow for plenty of profit per unit manufactured AND allow vehicles to be sold at under £30,000 So ordinary people without 6 figure incomes can buy EV and save the planet !!
