PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS
1) Turn ignition from OFF to ON (as far as you can go without starting the engine) 8 times (one turn is from OFF to ON and back to OFF) within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in ON (8th time you only go from OFF to ON and stop there) (never start the engine).
2) All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode.
3) Within 20 seconds, press any button on 1st car remote transmitter. Door locks will cycle to confirm remote programming.
4) Within 20 seconds, press any button on 2nd transmitter (up to 4 transmitters total possible). You have to press a button on every remote you have, including all the working original remotes if avail.
5) Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

Yes, you can have up to 4 working remotes. Make sure you have all of the remotes with you at the time of programming. When you get the initial response of the doors locking/unlocking and you push the button on the first remote, simply put down that remote and pick up the 2nd remote and push the button on that one too (during the same programming sequence). After all remotes have been pushed, only then should you exit the programming mode by removing the key. Please call us if you need help.

We have a video that shows how to replace the battery in your remote. Search for: How to Replace Batteries for Car Remotes Keyfobs If you replace the battery you do not have to reprogram. If it does not work make sure the battery is not upside down. If still not working, the remote may be broken. If you reprogram the remote, be sure to have both there at the same time. Once you hit the lock button on the first remote and the car responds, simply hit lock on the 2nd remote and both will sync.

Try rebooting the car by disconnecting the car's battery for about 15-20 minutes and then try the programming again. Sometimes this will work to help get the car into programming mode. You can also take the remote to a local auto parts store where they can check the signal to see if it is working.

I dont know how anyone can possibly mess this up it was so easy, my five year old could have done it. just turn the key back and forth fast ( not to the point where you actually start the car ) until your doors lock ( u might want to unlock them before you begin). Once the doors lock hit the lock button on the keyless remote then the unlock button and thats it its programmed. Also I started with the key down not up so down, up,down, up ,down, up, down, up (8 times) thats when your doors will lock and u press the lock and unlock button on the remote. Hope this helps :)

Not sure if you said this in the video and I missed it but I had to have all doors unlocked otherwise it never cycled the locks and never programmed my remotes, I just found that out by trial and error when it didn’t work. Thanks

worked perfectly for 2000 mercury sable....at first i took out battery and replaced it with old pc cmos battery(it had the same battery type,so i figured i give it a try) that i wasn't using to test it and the process didnt work......then i put the old battery back in and it worked like a charm

Try rebooting your car battery by disconnecting it for about 15 mins, then retry the programming from the beginning. This might solve the problem.

maybe the vehicle has to be between 99 and up, it seems from the comments it doesnt work for the older models, unless people are just doing it wrong cuz it worked for me first time I tired it very easily. I have a 2001 Mercury mountaineer. As long as you do it fast enough and hit the button on the remote as soon as yours doors lock from turning the key it will work.

Thanks for the info, but I have a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. I just received the key with the remote after buying the car a year ago. I replaced the battery in the FOB and tried these steps but it didn't work. Am I doing something wrong or is this vehicle to old for a car remote Key FOB?

Worked great. Used the key fobs from my Mercury Sable to my new 98 ford escort. Except the unlock. It will lock. Sound the alarm. And open the trunk. Any suggestions on the unlock?

+Jennifer A There is either a problem with the Unlock button itself on the remote or with the cars actuators. Have them test the remotes unlock button at a local auto parts store to rule out a remote issue. If you need a new one, we have them here: www.carandtruckremotes.com/r081.html

Worked perfectly,(once I got the 8 cycles timed right), for my 2005 Ford Focus wagon, using keyfobs from my '98 Ford Escort wagon, FCCID #GQ43VT11T. Now I've got to figure out how to "unprogram" my Ford Escort from the fobs. Anyone know how to do that? I wonder if I unhook the battery for awhile if that'll do it.

+Rick Snyder Rebooting the battery will probably not work for that. The only way I know how to do that is to set a new fob to the Escort and not retain the programming from the others to the car. If you need more information on that you can give us a call at 866-690-4308.

I have two key fobs for a 98 Mercury Mountaineer. The one fob I've been using quit working (battery?) and so I've been using the 2nd fob only. Is it true that if I replace the battery then the fob has to be reprogrammed? And, if I have to reprogram the first fob (the one with the replaced battery) I have to reprogram the 2nd one as well? Btw, how does one replace the battery on these key fobs anyway because they are sealed? Thanks much in advance.

Does not work on 1998 Grand Marquis with PATS. Your procedure is for later models with PATS II. Any idea where the female plug on the PATS is located? For a 1998 this is supposed to be jumped with a paper clip to program the remotes.

works but not properly in my 2004 Mountaineer. Programmed the key fob and tested it and it works great except one flaw. I have to constantly check my rear window hatch. Even without pressing any button the key fob will pop my window hatch if the fob is close to my vehicle. Tried to reprogram and still does the same thing. Took the battery out of the key fob and problem is gone. Any ideas how to fix this? Since I took the battery out of the key fob I no longer have the problem. Only affects the window hatch with battery in the fob.

+nicole lyles Did you get the remote from us Nicole? If you did, we can certainly exchange it for you. Give us a call at 866-690-4308 Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm EST. If you did not get the remote from us, unfortunately it sounds like a defect in the remote itself. The hatch button is making constant contact with the remote board apparently. You will need a new remote if you want that button to work properly.

+detroit5195 Try to cycle the key OFF to ON 8 times... if the door locks cycle (lock/unlock) you have the keyless entry remote system on the vehicle. If this does not work, call the Ford dealer with your VIN and ask them.

1. Turn the ignition from OFF to RUN 4 times within 6 seconds. 2. Turn the ignition OFF. The LED in the clock/trip computer will light up continuously to confirm programming mode. 3. Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote. The LED in the clock will flash 4 times to confirm programming. 4. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote. 5. Turn the ignition to RUN. The LED will turn off to indicate end of programming mode.

If you still aren't having any luck, you can try rebooting the keyless system by doing an electrical reset on the vehicle.To do this you would simply disconnect one of the car's battery cables for about 15-20 minutes, reconnect and then try the programming again.Sometimes this will solve any 'bugs' that may be keeping the remote from programming.

You can try rebooting the keyless system by doing an electrical reset on the vehicle.To do this you would simply disconnect one of the car's battery cables for about 15-20 minutes, reconnect and then try the programming again.Sometimes this will solve any 'bugs' that may be keeping the remote from programming. Pretty common with the Ford systems. Also... Have you had a remote on the car before? Perhaps the car is not factory remote equipped.

The only way to know for sure is to call the dealer with your VIN and ask them. Otherwise, as long as you have power door locks, you can get a remote system put on the car by an electronics store or car alarm shop relatively inexpensively.

+Charles Young What year is your Mountaineer? Some years require different instructions. You can also try rebooting the car by disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes, reconnect and try programming again. Be sure you leave the key in the ON position before pressing the button on the remote.

+James Simpson Yes, it should work with the factory remote system on the 2003 Focus. If you do not get the initial response from the car...You can try rebooting the car by disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes, reconnect and try programming again. Also check the battery and signal on the remote at a local auto parts store. If all else checks out and the remote still will not connect you may need to visit a dealer or locksmith for programming.

Went out to the Car , my Fab suddenly wouldn't work , tried to reprogram and nothing , I have a extra Fab , put in a New battery , repeated reprogramming , 8 times ignition turn , doors lock and unlock as usual , but when I push a button on the Fabs to confirm programming , I get nothing ... Im assuming some sensor or something quit since It was 2 fabs with new battery in each one ...Any ideas?? Sorry I wasn't more clear .

I have a 98 ford windstar but i cant seem to get the remote to programe. I turn the key and the doors lock and unlock but it dont program with the remote. Some please help me

My doors automatically unlock when I turn the key to off. 2001 grand marquis with the code alarm setup. Can't seem to find any procedure that works, any ideas? Thank you
