Just sold my 200k mondeo tdci after 5 years and 100k miles. Only ever needed routine servicing and a rear coil spring during that time. A solid dependable car that handled really well for a big car. I'm not a Ford fanatic and have owned several German cars in the past and the mondeo knocks the spots off them for reliability and handling. None of your criticisms of the car tally up with my experience of the mondeo.
It's hardly a budget car really is it....a budget car would be something like a basic fiesta or proton. And I wouldn't call it bare bones either......it's got climate control, electric mirrors, all electric windows, electric seats, heated windscreen and mirrors, alloy wheels, trip computer, 6 speed gear box, cruise control, turbo, and a surprisingly good stereo system with aux input.
I've not long got a 54 petrol saloon 1.8 mistral version. It handles very well. 0-60 is good for family car. Its large enough & comfortable for long motor way trips. It is bit heavy on the fuel. Saying that I got mines for a steal.
I went to Newcastle about 200 mile round trip cost me £65 fill car from empty to full it used bang on half a tank. I've been putting redex fuel treatment in mines its making me get more mpg. Just watch the oil Iv had to put redex oil treatment to slow it down it was using 2ltrs of oil every 400 miles its fine know though.
This review seems to go against everything else you read or hear about the Mondeo. They are usually praised by their owners for their sure footed and well controlled handling with the chassis being one of the Mondeo's redeeming features. The quality of the interiors are also said to be improved on post 2005 models and refinement is also slated to be a good point. This review seems to tell the opposite to almost all owner reviews I've read.
Ive had one of these for nearly 2 years, now on 151k miles and counting, had to replace wear and tear parts but never had anything break on me (touch wood) as for the brakes I had to do an emergency stop and swerve at 110mph (in Germany of course) and it did it really well, my brakes are at a point were I'm thinking about renewing them and still work great. Not the fastest, not the best handling, not the most comfortable but it does the job for ordinary people who want to drive to work or whatever and not worry about understeer while going round a race track or sitting in traffic as is commonplace on UK roads!
I must admit, I don't get this review. Ive owned and driven a lot of Audi's, VW Passat's and a 7 series Beemer. Back in 2000, I owned an Imported Impreza Type "R" and after that a Skyline GTR for 12 months that I sold before I lost my license! I know a thing or two about how a motor should handle and feel on the road. My mrs now has an old MK3 Mondeo with 185K and I gota tell ya, it drives superbly and it pains me to say it, it handles better than my 09 plate Passat. The only thing I don't like on the mondeo is the vague brakes. You must have reviewed a lemon!
Appreciate time and effort you go to in making a review of this car in this day and age. But you have to remember that it is utterly pointless to criticise a car that's design was first introduced back in 2001. It will never compare to the car you are driving and enjoying most now (benchmark). Also even though you say the press has a hidden agenda when it comes to reviewing cars. Does That mean that every website and magazine and newspaper all have the same view then???? Last time I checked across the spectrum I couldn't find a bad review on the mondeo of the this model anywhere
These cars handle and corner very well. I have recently sold one with 250000 miles on the clock it still drove very well in the five years we owned it i replaced the clutch and injectors apart from that the car was very reliable!!
We are now on the Fullscreen network. We are in the process of buying more equipment and will very shortly be recording a whole new series of videos for 2014, we will be including general cars plus a range of super cars including new Aston Martrins, a personal favourite.
Yes good value for money family car, this is the best model to go for in the Mondeo range with the extra bells n whistles. Stay clear of high milage examples as they are prone to injector issues.
well. As far as I know the Diesel was not made by Ford but they bought it from Peugot which explains his reaction quite good. I am looking to buy a used Mondeo right now... it is hard finding a good one now though.
Join UK Car Reviews on Facebook and Twitter. It is far easier to get directly in touch with the actual reviewer this way and also quicker for me personally to respond to any questions. I will have hundreds of new videos coming soon with some really fantastic cars, if you want a particular car reviewed it is a good time to let me know now, so see links in description above.
terrible review.I,ve had a 2007 ghia for 4 years now and it hasnt let me down yet.Accelerates well and beats the hell out of more than a few of the audi/bmw crew.Substantial and right on the button machine.
to be fair you do compare middle range cars to top of the end to much. surely so many reps cant be wrong.. i have owned many cars in my time and i loved the tdci mondeo, it was a lovely car to drive on the motorways and very nimble in town. i never had my mondeo "lock up" on me. it was a very capable car. can we get some positives in a review please. u have called this car bad because it is a front wheel drive.. i dont hate your reviews because you raise valid points but the pure negativity and lack of in depth reasons for your points annoys me.
From 1993 the Mondeo has been a 1st class car in it's league, it is purely renowned for what it does so efficiently and effectively at almost half the price of a top spec BMW 3 Series. If it's like what you've said in your review why is there so many of them? And why is it business reps still drive these things or is it too much of a 'low cost' car for the middle working class? Thumbs down from me i'm afraid! I suggest you thoroughly research a car in depth including its history before submitting any car reviews.
It amazes me how people insist what other people should do,, I dont see you anywhere with a car camera making reviews.Furthermore, you state this car,"compared to others from the same class",compared to what car in the same class?...Personally having driven several hundred of these cars I would compare its handling to a wheel barrow with flat tyres running over a cobbled street.
Well as I am being filmed reviewing an auto car then yes that does not mean I am an auto reviewer, furthermore,if you make statements referring to cars of similar class and you are not backing up with any references or models then your comparisons are pointless and your criticism is unfounded and quite simply just interferes with the system.
Wow, what an awful review of a 'ghia x' mondeo, this is far from a barebones car. Compare it to the likes of an Audi A4 or bmw 3 series of the same age and they have no extra toys over the mondeo, in fact the mondeo has a lot more, like folding mirrors, heated and COOLED seats, climate control that works and bloody comfy nice leather. Your reviews should be rebranded 'German fanboy' reviewer
You Sir.. are a right blonker.... i own a TDCI 130 Mondeo 2005.. and it's still a good car by modern standards, and after your negative review, you go on to say its actually not a bad car??? WTF!!!
Having watched some other ford reviews from you I think you need to stop being biased and focusing on bad points and think about God points the mondeo is not floaty its planted ! Reported for dangerous behaviour you have got little control of the steering wheel .did you say the mondeo doesn't like corners it's one of the best cars in class.
Praised by what motoring press?the press that perhaps has an agenda to sell the car to you....its a Mondeo,it will never get any more exciting, or generate "a very composed and secure drive" because it is front wheel drive and its a load of rubbish,I suspect you probably own of these and think it is a good drive as you are used to that delivery. Take it from me,its a rubbish car & it will never be anything more. It's not a composed car & it's not secure,it over steers in the wet and drives awful
