GT350R wasn't updated for 2019 unfortunately, so it wasn't elligible. 2020 will probably see the GT500 go head-to-head with the 992 Turbo though.

@@aerodynamic1440 Cost of a car doesn't correlate to reliability. A honda civic is 20k and will outlive either of those cars for a fraction of the price. Just because something is cheaper doesn't mean it's not reliable.

That GT350 is like my attainable dream car. It has everything, the legacy, the looks, the sound, the power, the gearbox. For me is the epitome of the Mustang and my second favorite Mustang after the 2000 SVT Cobra R. Best of all, is not crazy expensive. Probably the last high performance NA V8 Mustang we will see...

But there are still 100 things that a 911 C2S has that a GT500 can't match. They just aren't comparable. The 911 C2S is the pinnacle of harmony - elegant inside and out, smooth exhaust note, precise handling and a polished feel overall. No Ford can offer that. The GT500 is (almost) the pinnacle of brute force - simple materials, an exhaust that harshly curses instead of singing, just enough handling and tires that the engine won't kill you, and a feel of rough brutality (I do think that styling of the Mustang has gone too soft, though). Again, no Porsche will ever offer you that. Blessed are the ones that love and own them both.

SERIOUSLY huge price gap that could never be overlooked in the real world, but of course nobody's cross shopping these two either, so it’s really an apples/oranges comparison. For me the initial cost and ease of maintenance/parts costs mean I’ll keep driving Mustangs. The Porsche is very capable and an iconic car to be sure, but for many folks it’s simply not realistic. Nothing wrong with that , but the fact that $75000 only meant a few tenths of a second sure was interesting :)

@@JTM610 2009 Porsche 911 starting price went from 77k all the way to 140k. They doubled the cost of the car in 10 years. That's ridiculous. Even if you input for inflation, the car doubled its price. Majority of Porsche products used to cater to the middle class car enthusiast. Now it appears to cater to the rich and wealthy.

I love that you can hear it in this video how absurd the GT350's gears are and how long you can (and should) drag them out before upshifting. God bless the voodoo motor! Blame RU-vid for funding the high budget channels like this one - then just pulling the plug on the funding completely. The various channels like MT, /drive, and various others even outside of the automotive realm that all begun scrambling for outside funding a few years ago all suffered from the same drying up of RU-vid money. Except, unlike the rest, MotorTrend actually had a viable plan for survival - the amount of new high quality content for the dollar is nearly unmatched, and certainly so within the automotive enthusiast market.

To everyone saying they should’ve used the gt500. Icons with Jason camisa did a lap with the 500 vs the gt3rs with the PDK and the 500 was only two tenths behind. The 500 would annihilate the carrera.

Eddie Alvarado Thats true, but with automatic gearbox and the better handling it should have gained atleast 2 seconds ahead of the mustang but it didnt. So I think, that really only the automatic did the difference here. The Gt350 actually has some serious grip for a car with front engine

Love your head to head video's. Could you make the speedos and G-meter a lot smaller and put them next to each other in the middle, with a lap timer on top? Would be easier to compare each vehicles speed that way.

I’ll just say this much. Randy was mum on the 911 during that lap. But, both here and in other videos, he’s sung praises of the Shelby. The Porsche’s faster and more comfortable, but the GT350 is more fun, even for a pro. For the kinds of folks interested in a sports car, that should say everything.

Because MotorTrend dogged the Mustang GT500 when it was being reviewed against the Corvette C8. And the C8 lost after it was named car of the Year in October. The Mustang name has too much viewing power right now and they had to bring it down a peg or two especially since they haven't been posting on RU-vid. So they needed to bring back their version of excitement to get people to go over to motortrend and pay for a subscription.

@@fsxnico There was no point on the lap where the Mustang was quicker, be it corner or straights. On very fast tracks, above 120, the Mustang would start hauling, but, below that, power to weight ratio + higher grip out of corners will always win.

It's almost 1.5 seconds and that's honestly quite a bit. I have to say, I'm very surprised. If you dial up a used 911 S vs. A new GT350, it seems as if the 911 might be the better bang for the buck, actually. I want a GT350 and would never have considered a 911S before this. Now a used 911S has my attention.

One of my fave comparos for sure because I've got slightly different (obviously not brand-new) versions of each, and I'd have wagered on the Mustang. Though I love the 911 deeply, the passenger reaction is night & day different because the visceral feel of the Mustang, combined with the great sound of an American stonking V8, leaves people laughing out loud. They don't do that in the 911 because it's so poised. It's the sensation that is so vastly different. Of course there's the massive price difference too. We live in the greatest performance era ever; those of us who lived through the early '70s never thought it would get remotely this good.

Only one point: Mustang in any iteration belongs to 2015. That Porsche above for 143k is brand new in every way. I believe this is a learning curve for Ford execs. Sports car vs mass produce compromises

@@CarazyDiamond That's not even true. The 2019s got a major refresh mechanically. They even put the updated GT500 front suspension on the 350. The motor is much stronger than my 2018. The steering tuning is different and so are the spring rates.

Price is irrelevant to performance. You get what you pay for in a Porsche, which is not just speed. The interior ain't cheap plastic, and it's actually pretty reliable for a sports car.

The mustang had race compound tyres while porsche was on normal street tyre so i guess that even outs the difference

Peter man I sell Porsche’s but I’m looking into a 2016 / 2017 GT 350 as my next car. I think there is a ton of value in the GT350s. Porsche is undeniably the better car. It’s in a different league. It’s not just the track times that make these cars special.

@@Starfire_Storm They updated the engine, steering geometry, and suspension on the R. The 2019s and 2020s are not the same as 2018 and before.

@@Starfire_Storm technically you can say they did. 2020 gt350r did get some minor tweaks. They like the gt350 in 2019 , now use smooth rotors, aero tweak from the grills, the gt500 block. For 2020 they got the gt500 steering rack and tweaks.

In other news, the gt350 is faster than a Hyundai Elantra (which is a similar price gap). Why even do these comparisons? Is there legitimately anyone who is cross shopping these two cars?

What I don’t understand about this pair is that you chose to use a vehicle (GT350) that's soo inexpensive. Had you guys set up the 911S vs. GT350 vs. GT500 (closer to 992.1S in price)
