I have a 2013 F150 Super-crew with the 5.0 Coyote since new and have put just over 350,000 miles on it. Repairs in order are oil sensor at 80,000, transmission rebuild at 230,000, upper radiator hose at 250,000, timing cover gasket at 260,000 had water pump done at the same time, Cat #1 at 280,000, Cat #2 at 310,000 and just did the Degas bottle and bottle hose to thermostat hosing in the last 100 miles. I usually put in about 1.5 quarts of oil between 10,000 mile oil changes due to small leaks and some burn off (Pennzoil High Mileage Full Synth). This has without a doubt been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned.

Think most of the 10 speed bad rap comes from it’s a learning transmission and a new 10 speed is a little funky until it is used for long enough for it to learn. And sometimes they get it stuck in there program to be a race transmission lol It’s an easy fix reset to relearn. The early ones definitely had some drum problems and valve body problems.

Otherwise a solid truck. Mine is 2012 5.0 4x4 with 230k miles. Only thing to fail was water pump around 200k miles, front bearing 225k, and seized caliper slide pins. You should do the newest problem with the coyote TSB. 232194. Oh it’s a defect in the block where the oil filter housing bracket meets the block. I guess that part of the block is leaking. It’s porous August 23, 2022 to April 30 23. models. I have a F150 I just bought that was manufactured July and I’m having a leak in that area now they’re saying it’s just a gasket. I’m hoping it’s not that block issue. and they’re trying to dodge the bullet from doing all that work or reimbursing me.

Oil consumption/spark knock/Tapping noise coming from the motor. I have a 2017 Ford F-150 5.0 it has 148,000 miles on it right now. I think I’ve had it about one or two years already. I noticed when I run 5W 20 oil in it. It would consume oil and what I think what’s going on is it’s heating up and turning into vapor going into the combustion chamber. Causing carbon buildup on top of the pistons. Which in return causes spark knock. When I run 5W 30 oil in it. There’s very little oil consumption. And it helps with the spark knock. Granted I had to do some other stuff as well. A computer reset(brains of the vehicle) Sea foam treatment, run higher octane fuel and be a little more aggressive on the throttle when taking off. If you’re hearing a tapping noise coming from the motor check your throttle body. You’ll see that throttle body twitching. Don’t stick anything in there!

@8020Media
@8020Media 9 месяцев назад
At those mileage levels and age I wouldn't be too concerned. If you're in a hot climate 5w-30 should be fine, it'll provide a little extra lubrication at the sacrifice of flow. We usually just stick with what the manufacturer recommends but going up by 10 shouldn't be a problem either. Might get slightly worse gas mileage with it tho, but nothing super noticeable.

Thankfully it sounds like the oil consumption issue has been fixed at least. A lot of the ticking complaints are people just hearing the noisy high pressure fuel system. You know it's interesting to me I'm running an older variant I'm running to 2012 Boss when I look up the known issues from Ford tech service bulletins TSB's I find it very interesting it'll start naming the issues and it'll say in parentheses except for Boss 302, I mean seriously look it up for yourself it's very interesting there's no typewriter click there's no this there's no that there's no oil consumption there's no and it's flawless so I look at these two engines what's the difference? Obviously different rides different Pistons cheaper ring pack we have an engine that's more mass-produced versus the boss which has 4030 forged wl12percent silicone mahle Pistons, sinter forged rods, it has much better metallurgy in the material for the cylinder heads, other than that I don't see any other difference I mean the the typewriter clacking I had that in a 6.4 l diesel some of that is just noises that don't really mean much but they they sound bad when they get through resonating through the block, but the boss has none of the issues that the coyote has and they're the same engine minus internals???
