drool drool, what a crispness. Crazy cool adventure and what a result, even the nitty gritty leading lines in the edge of the field is thought about. I agree the southern hemisphere has a nicer view.

Thanks mate 👍 the lines in the crops do help with adding some interest in the foreground and shooting a pano bends them to line up with the sky nicely,

Absolutely belting image big fella. You're absolutely right about taking the time to enjoy the beauty of the night sky. When I speak to folk starting out with astrophotography I tell them to take the time to look up and around while their camera is doing its thing.

Putting your lens cap on and taking some dark frames at whatever settings you had for the foreground would take care of the hot pixels later in post!

Thanks mate 👍 I've never tried dark frames on a foreground before
@johncarter591
@johncarter591 8 месяцев назад
Yep the long exposure noise reduction feature built in the camera's work the same way it only reduces hot pixels ! Haven't done it for while from memory just put a dark frame on top of your light layer and set blend mode to subtract!@@johnrutterphotography

Cool that you can be out in a wide open space like that at night with just a t-shirt on. Here in the UK, when I go out, I am usually freezing cold with gloves on setting up all my gear. And then of course the clouds come over. Summer no good either, because we have perpetual twighlight. In the UK we have to suffer for this hobby.

John - Is there any particular reason you went with the Sigma 20 and 24mm lenses as opposed to Sony 20 and 24mm? Was this purely due to cost reasons, or do you find the performance of the Sigma is better than the Sony . I shoot mostly Sony 24mm f1.4 and Sony 20mm f1.8, but am considering adding a Sigma or two as i usually use four (4) a7iv cameras when i do widefield timelapse shooting. Thanks
@johnrutterphotography
@johnrutterphotography 8 месяцев назад
The 20mm I have is the old sigma one which is terrible for imaging but great for video so the sony would be a better option, I don't shoot images at 20mm so it was a better choice for video having f1.4 The new sigma 24 dgdn and sony 24 GM are on par so the added cost of going sony is just a waste for me but other sigma lenses completely out perform the sony lenses like the sigma 40mm, sigma 28mm, sigma 105mm. I get that sony doesn't have exactly these focal lengths but they are now pretty much the best option for nightscape images
