No worries, Lin - Better Late Than Never is my life motto! Oh, The Liar's Club is SO good - Mary Karr is such a talented writer and has a great sense of humor. I've also read Cherry but not her others. If you read Cherry, you will find that Mary was NOT ok after that childhood! I've heard that The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is excellent. TV has changed SO much since the 70's - not just the choices & breadth of programming, but the overall quality - there are so many excellent shows on now. Sounds like a great nonfiction November!
You've convinced me. I will definitely read Cherry! And I'm sure you would enjoy The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. It's an experience. Thanks for watching, Sue.
I'm happy you loved The Liar's Club--the other two are definitely worth reading, as is The Art of Memoir, even if you aren't planning to write one yourself. I don't think I could give up TV (or what passes for it today), although I admit it that shows with excellent storytelling are a small fraction of what's produced, and I've never been into reality TV. Now, I think people looking at their world through their phone screens IS a problem (thinking here of the Grand Canyon example).
I agree 100%! And, as much as I hate to admit it, whenever I have time for a small break, I reach for my phone to check the news instead of staring into space or picking up a book like I used to. Blessings and curses.
“The Liars’ Club” has a waiting list at my library yet it was published a long time ago in 1995. That should give us an indication of its appeal. p.s. Is there a 12-step program for RU-vid addicts like us?
