I've read four of the five books you listed and wholeheartedly agree with your choices. I would also add the books of John Kruse who has written several books on various aspects of fairy folklore and most of them are free to read on Kindle Unlimited, in the UK at least. And just as an FYI, Ceri is a Welsh name and it's pronounced 'Kerry' 😊

@@booktalkingwithlibrarylin1924 no matter! What matters is you followed your heart when you felt you had to write it and you did it! Very inspirational. I tried doing the same (but for short stories) and can’t help but feel my writing is flat. Boring. It’s making me rethink about “why” I feel that I should be writing creatively. While I think it over, I pick up another book to read…..🤣

Finished this book except for the Appendix B. It seriously helped me a lot and what I learned from it for few months quickly dominated the years I spent in academia . I think what I got from it can be carried through my entire life. However I became demotivated after realizing that I'm still on the basic level of understanding this book and some rules on the earlier chapters I either completely neglected or applied wrongly. I will reread it and not give up on understanding it. Currently watching this playlists and liking it so far, it would help me bring back my motivation

Thank you so much for watching! It's a very tough book, in my opinion! I'd say I'm only at level two, currently. It's always great to learn new things, but I wouldn't stress over it. Buried somewhere in there, they do say that following there advice perfectly is not possible (even for them). You can only do your best. I think it's awesome that you are working on it and continuing to get better with practice! Best of luck to you!

Yes! I’ll join you going forward as you asked. Welcome back! It’s so good to have some time off to reassess. I think I’ve been doing the same. Trying to figure out “what’s next”. Congratulations on completing your book. What an achievement. I seem to have stalled. I did a writers course recently but I’m finding spending hours in front of a computer to write a story was not interesting for me. I think RU-vidrs put pressure on creators to do videos in certain ways. It’s your channel, you can do anything you want with it. For me, I decided not to use social media, AI, create shorts but just build it up slowly. I’m seeing it as a Hobby Business. In all honesty, I just like to read. The more I could have time to read that’s all I want. Looking forward to the themes you’ll share. Interested in the writing process, women’s fiction and yes, ageing in today’s society. That’s a big one for me too. Welcome back!

I loved your take on Writing Down the Bones! I have read dozens of books on writing over the years - including the big ones: Stephen King's On Writing, Bradbury's Zen and the Art of Writing, Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird, Julia Cameron's morning pages strategy, etc. None of them hold a candle to the freedom and inspiration that Writing Down the Bones provides. I've read it dozens of times, her audiobook is excellent, and she followed it with other excellent writing books that I also still draw from: Old Friend From Far Away, Wild Mind, and The True Secret to Writing (plus others). None are better than Bones, but her generous spirit and ruthless pragmatism flow through all of them. I would love to see what you think of those! Thanks for posting about this book - time to pull it off my shelf :)

Oh it's a pity to watch this video Lin but you know, I cannot fault your thinking here at all. I wish you all the best with your writing endeavours and yes, I agree that making videos is a time suck and better spent doing what you want to do that supports your new interests. I love how you have now got a path ahead to do what you want and devoting more time to. It's a pragmatic and logical approach........but.....we will MISS YOU!!!! Watching this, you also reflected EXACTLY the same questions I had been having about my own channel and WHY I was doing what I was doing with my own channel. I want to explore more writing but I've had a realisation in the last couple of months (which I feel guilty about) and that is, I like making videos more so than fiction writing. If push comes to shove, I'll take out my camera first rather than opening up a page on the screen to type out a short story. This was an eye-opener when I thought about this because at the same time, I also feel compelled to write. This then made me think about my intention of my own channel. WHY exactly am I sharing Life Lessons from Books? I've come to the conclusion that I simply like the community of how books offer life lessons for us and the discussion that comes from them. I also love to read and read heaps of books. However, I haven't come to terms about writing. I feel guilty that I'm not devoting more time to that too. I've given myself more time to ponder it and see what I naturally fall into - and prefer giving up my time to. Thank you for all your videos. I loved them all and wish you all the best with your fiction writing. Thank you also for your kind recommendation. All the best and good luck with reading that HUGE book!!

Lin, you just did something no BookTuber has ever done before. You made me well up, and cry! 😢 I have so many mingled emotions and thoughts right now. First, I’m sad that you’re leaving. But I feel in my heart that we haven’t seen the last of you. And certainly we will hear from you on the page. Second, I’m happy for you that you made the tough decision to prioritize your writing and reading. Would that the algorithms allowed you to be successful with one video and a book or two per month . . .but alas , frequent content and photos of monolithic stacks of books are the impossible trend. It does get unrealistic. At the same time, your vlogs have been intelligent, interesting, informative, and with a welcome touch of sarcasm and humor. 😊 Lastly, I am glad to have met you and shared this space with you and totally agree- I feel like we are distant but fast friends from different childhoods (if that even makes sense!🤣) I appreciate your mentioning my little channel and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it. How are you doing mrs Linda . Happy mother day to you all mothers around world . We celebrate mother day in Arabic countries as well as England on March and in USA and Canada on May . It’s different date around world France on June . Honestly as I told we learned English little bit late at middle school. But we have such wonderful memories from our childhood. We watched cartoons . Richy rich , tom jerry , Disney cartoons . I still remember song scooby do do how are . Boys and girls with their dog . There are Sesame Street show which helps to memorize English letters and numbers. I born in 1970s and turned to 49 years old . In my 20s I watched satellites and using pager. I just found out twinkle twinkle little star is very ancient from 19 th century and it’s lullaby lyric written by Jane Taylor. Scooby do do song show before I was born in 1969 . Poetry can help children into their creativity by encouraging them to think about new and unexpected relationships between words . Most notable children poets such as shel sliverstein author of such works as where side walk , ends and light in attic’s, also he wrote giving tree . Theodor Geisel, tony mitton was English writer ( 1935- 2022) . Best wishes for you your loved ones.

I love Writing Down the Bones! I first read that book back in the Nineties, when my best friend loaned me her copy because she was trying to convince me to write fiction. I picked it up again seven or eight years ago, and I love to go back to it when I feel stuck. And I've followed her advice to write every day (or mostly every day) for many years. I'm happy it's working for you! (Chocolate is the meaning of life.) I love the step where you go back and read what you've written--so many surprises! Something you thought was great might just feel lumpish, but an entry on a day you might not have been feeling it might just sing and astound you.

I wonder why people consider anyone who can’t finish his education because of circumstances as me and others less qualities than persons who get their degree from universities. I found RU-vid RU-vid channels as open universities for every one, google is library. Till nowadays parents send their children aboard as USA or Europe to study . We have great educational tools as RU-vid and all we need just notebooks and pen and mind to think properly. I looked up for author you mentioned and book theme briefly here it’s writing down bones means striving for essential, awaking speech of mind . Writing down bones by Natalie berg is guidebook for a spring writer . It’s offers practical advice , personal anecdotes, writing unleash creativity overcome fear of putting pen to paper.

"I've lived in the south all my life and I can tell you that some people do seem to be lacking in intelligence" - best quote of the month! LOL Thanks for the chuckle. Here is my reply: "I've lived in the north all my life and I can tell you that the south does not hold a monopoly on unintelligent people,"
