Yes! Try it out Shana Marie! 🤗 Another trick is to pour boiling hot water in your jar, let it cool completely and the wax will float to the top of the jar. I will do a quick tip video on that next just to show the method in real time!
Ooo Paris! Bay bay! Bless you. I'm going through it right now with the wooden wick and this saved me from melting down the wax all over again and yada yada.
Won’t God do it! Girl u are my ram in the bush. When I tell you that I am SICK of pouring candles to rest wooden wicks. This video is a God send. Thanks- I definitely will be trying out this method!
You should! Wooden wicks are amazing! I just looove the crackling sound, clean and slow burn, teardrop flame, etc. etc. LOL! Let me know if you try them out!
@@ParisNikkole I will! I’m always looking fir ways of expanding or something to add to help my growth! I love the thought of the crackling noise although never had one myself! I’ll check out your website!
I have seen several videos on wickless testing. You should initially pour the wax into the Container without a wick, this way you can dip the wick in the wax once cooled. Then test out the wicks and easily take each one out as you need to alternate
That method will not give you an accurate test. You will end up drowning the wick since the wood needs to be absorbed with the wax. You can do that if you dip the difference wick sizes all at once that way your testing wicks will be coated in wax prior to placing them
What’s the trick to WOOD wicks? I have a 12 oz Amber jar with a width across the top of 3.55” and the base of the jar is 3.25”. What’s size wood wick and brand would you recommend? In the past I randomly tried a wooden wick from Amazon and it was probably the wrong size, but I could barely get it to light and then it wouldn’t stay lit.
Use the .625 wick for those. Make sure when you purchase the wick you choose the type that works well with the wax you are using. Some wicks that work well with coconut wax do not work well with soy. You are so welcome! 💜 I would allow 48-72hrs for cure time if you are just making your candles ahead of someone ordering. With my candles, I make them the day my customers order, let them sit over night and then ship them out. This allows the candle to cure during shipping time as well.
Not every fragrance. However, if the flash points are significantly different I will test with a different wick to make sure the candle isn't burning too fast.
Hey girl I’ve tried every cotton wick and I bought some wooden wicks from Amazon before and maybe that’s where I went wrong. Do the cotton wicks stay lit or do they often go out ?
apparently not all cotton wicks are compatible with every fragrance oil. you can have the perfect combo of wax & wick but everything can be thrown out of whack because of the fragrance oil. some people have to use different wicks with different fragrance oils. is this also the case with wooden wicks?
Yes, this can be the case with Wooden Wicks as well depending on the flash point. For example with the wider wick I used, it burned my oil at too hot of a temp which also sped up the burn time and caused my jar to turn completely black from soot. This is why I had to continually scale down. The wooden wick I am using now burns perfect! Slow and low!
Hi, Thank you for the informative video. It is very helpful, especially if you are new to wooden wicks like me! So I made a candle with a large wooden wick in a 3.5 (diameter) straight jar and it produced some tunnelling🥺. I’m assuming that the wick is too small so I want to test with the extra large wick. Can your suggested testing method work on tunnelling candles too???
Absolutely! As far as tunneling is concerned, before you burn your new wick, take a heat gun and smooth out the top of your candle so that it is even again. Allow the candle top to completely solidify and then light your candle. It is best to get a wick testing kit so that you can test multiple wicks to make sure you are using the right one for your candle. Hope this helps!
Ok so for clarification, I’m making my candle and I’m using the wick clip with my first wick, burning the candle, letting it cool, and then pulling the wick out and swapping it with a different one?
Hey Paris!! Thanks for all you do, Can you please help me understand why my candle is throwing soo much soot? I use the apricot creme wax, wooden wick .75, 2 FO's at 11% and 12 oz jar. Ive cut the wick and it burns for 30 minutes and soot starts again. Thank you!
You can do it with cotton wicks, just pour it without a wick, let it cool, poke a small guide hole and insert the wick. That wick didn't work? take it out same way you did and insert the next one :)
The loudest candle I made was using a wick with a 4-5 crackle level. Now my wax is coconut so not sure if this will be the same for soy. I would purchase a wick sampler kit and try out multiple wicks to ensure you get the result you are looking for. Good Luck! 🙌🏾
I purchased jars from multiple vendors to get a feel for quality and aesthetic. You have to research empty candle jar suppliers and choose a few, then purchase a couple of jars from those suppliers, test in those jars and go from there. It is difficult in the beginning but once you find your supplier you will be good to go!
