Fred Penner is the best!!!👍🏽 I’m 40 years old still singing this song like I’m 5 years old back in 1988!😺😂

This guy is a legend. I'm a childcare worker, and you just don't see talent like his anymore in the children's entertainers.

Mr Penner lived a few blocks away from where I grew up in Winnipeg. I remember as an adult, I was watching my then wee nephew and niece playing in the front yard, and he came past walking his dog. My 5 and 3 year old niece and nephew were gobsmacked to see Fred Penner IN THEIR GRAMMA'S FRONT YARD! He was delightful and gracious to the kids. A very nice man.

My kids used to watch Fred Penner's show on Nickelodeon years ago...this morning, for some reason he popped in my head, and I wanted to see what he was up to.. Nice to see he still sounds so good...and sang The Cat Came Back...one of our favorite songs he sang.

Grew up with this guy on CBC as a kid. Good times.

Fred Penner is right on! Obviously he consulted the original sheet music for this song, so job well done. I hope 3 million people watch this performance of this song and learn it the correct way. I shudder to think of that so-called children's CD version that is out there with the verses recorded incorrectly. My mother and I used to play this song on piano, WITH the sheet music, for many, many years! We love Fred's version!!!!

Fred was the sound of my childhood, Fred Penners Place was one of my favorites. Met him around this time, worked in a kitchen that had just opened not long ago and invited him there, and he showed up. Very nice man too.

My class worked on making a food fight song with him. I still remember alot of that song.

We had his show on nickelodeon in the US. My early years were spent watching his show. Lots of great memories of him.

I don't believe that Penner wrote the song. Because I remember this song when I was in junior high or high school. And this was in the early 70s or late 60s. I don't think he wrote it, because this song is a folk song, my girlfriend had this book of folk songs and she found this song in it. I don't think it was Penner. If it was him. I just can't believe it was Penner. I don't know. I don't think so. I don't think that Penner wrote it. My girlfriend found that song and we learned it. She could play guitar. We were learning the song just for fun, going through this book of folk songs. How funny to see & hear this again. And to hear this again, it's exactly how we both learned it. This was in the early 70s or late 60s or something like that. We were either in junior high or High School. It was the early 70s or late 60s. And this folk song book looked kind of old with other older folk songs in it. American folk songs all kinds of different folk songs in this folk song book, so that you can learn to play the songs.

Canadians are good people, but make such awful audiences. He is a national treasure, and any national treasure in other countires, from Italy, to Fiji, I Russia to Germany, to Ghana to Mexico, and they all get up and cheer and clap and sing along. Canada is almost Japan-like in it's reserve and social pressure to sing aloud. Sad, really. He deserved better.
