What an amazing interview with Freddie showing such emotion and vulnerability. He states he was 41, and since he died of AIDS at 45, he already knew he was quite ill at the time, yet he does not show any pity. In fact, just the opposite; that he has lived a full life and he is content. A very strong man who gave his all, along with Queen, to give the world the most amazing music! I love to hear his songs and actually feel Freddie in those haunting words. Freddie touches my life with every Queen song I hear and I think of him often and feel blessed.........Thank you sweet man, so many millions, including me, love you............
Yes its quite shattering when your body turns against you and you feel that you are not superman anymore. It happened to me when i was 24. Got Diabetes. My life has never been the same since. Im still here, but i could have 1 billion dollars and live in the Bahamas on a private island without a care in world... I would still be sick. Your health is the most important thing you have. Remember that.
I’m so sorry your struggling with diabetes. Please don’t think it’s your body turning against you though because it isn’t. I felt like most of my life with countless health struggles. I can’t recommend the Medical Medium books enough. Diabetes is totally reversible if it’s type 2, type 1 diabetes is caused by a virus that’s damaged the pancreas, your body is always trying to save and protect you. The book - liver rescue by Medical Medium goes into this and what actually causes diabetes and how to heal. Life changing info we all need to learn about. The medical industry sadly know nothing about all this!! I wish you well on your healing journey!
I am so sorry. I can’t imagine how scary and devastating getting the diagnosis must have been. I hope you are okay and living your best life despite your illness.
That’s right. They believed he would not live to see the 90’s. He did. And he lived 4 years after his diagnosis! Makes the song ‘The Miracle’ much more powerful and deeper!
Это кусочек интервью 1987, на Ибице. Там отмечали 41-й ДР Фредди. Журналист - Дэвид Вигг, один из немногих журналистов, которым Фредди доверял. Интервью в полном объеме есть на Ютубе с русским переводом.
B400 ..It is not ironic He knew doing this interview that the end was coming he knew he had aids ..nothing was ironic ..more the opposite ..he was brave and well aware that living was not an option 4 him 😢
His real name is Farrokh Bulsara, and he was actually born in Zanzibar, India, and is 100% Western Indian. It was so sad that he felt ashamed of his natural culture and was never asked about his heritage. Whitewashed as always.
OP is right. He was of Indian descent. His parents were Indians living in Zanzibar with his father working for the British government. That’s why Fred was educated in a British boarding school in India.
‘Ffs, here we go! ‘Whitewashed’ 🙄 what makes you think he was ashamed? His family were British citizens, as Zanzibar, now Tanzania, was part of the British empire.
One of the most beautiful things about him was he sang his emotions out loud in the hope they would resonate with us & they certainly did & still do. The world as one big heart beating together...its a kinda magic! ❤
Anyone looking at photos of him at this time period can see he was very ill and all the doctors and make up couldn’t hide it anymore. Probably full blown AIDS for at least a year, if not two years.
Of course. For one, he is HIV positive, knows it, and tries to keep it a secret. And second, they're prying really hard into his personal life on a sensitive topic. "Are you really?? Have you reeeeally stopped having sex!?" I'm surprised he even put up with it. He has given rapporters attitude for a lot less!
Because he was HIV positive during this interview and he was trying really hard to keep it quiet and not let it slip. Also, talking about your sex life in a public interview is pretty awkward.
To those here who call him a liar, I say, " What's it to you" "What have you accomplished in your life that has given so, so many people happiness, joy, inspiration and sheer feelings of goodwill towards others? It's not what I get from this person. I get negativity. HE, Freddie, was in charge of his life and HE, Freddie, decided what parts of it he wanted to share or talk about. What are you??????? The disclosure police? STOP JUDGING!!!!! Freddie was an exceptional and amazing human being and a true treasure here on earth.
What kinda goofy, parasocial, weirdo logic is that? Because someone is successful in the entertainment business, they’re suddenly beyond reproach? Foh! I don’t think his diagnosis was anyone’s business, but your goofy “you can’t question anything he’s said or done because people enjoy his music” is unhinged Side Note: there are literally no commenters calling him a liar, so you just had an argument with yourself 😂😂😂
Freddie brilliantly approached his future with nary a blindfold - he proceeded to give all he could to what was possible. Wonderful examples -- the " Barcelona" album . . . the "innuendo" album as well.
He lived a very sinful life outside of music and family. As talented as he was he was very carefree and that lifestyle eventually got up to him. It's like a slow suicide!
It's so sad to think of what he must have felt having to lie as he answered these questions to keep his privacy. He knew by then, he had his diagnosis. He was determined not to be stigmatized (as most people with AIDS were and sadly still are) or to become some kind of poster boy for KS. Stronger than anybody thinks. Bless you, Freddie, we miss you still!
Queen was more than a rock'n'roll stars, they are Legends. Their concerts were huge party's. Their music brought all sorts of emotions, they took you on a journey. You could see the interactions with fans. Their talents amazing, they gave it their all, and yet people still want more. I don't know if they realized how good Queen really was, they made Queen into something great with all their talents?
You made me so happy at 15 at the Odeon And you make me happy still at 65 !! 50 years of sheer unadulterated happiness For which. I’ll be eternally grateful 🙏🏻
this is interesting because I thought he revealed that he had it a few days before he died in late 1991. he’s almost revealing it here dropping these hints.
Freddie was HIV Positive at the time of this interview. So sad that there was this terrible desires that took his life and others including my 13 year old nephew who was a Homophobic. 34 years gone and I still cry when I remember him❤
I love hearing talk about anything and everything all the time, I also think he already knew he had HIV so he was being really honest!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Nah, it was just a VERY different time. You can't assess anything in those days based on today's norms. Back then there was still a real hatred towards homosexuality and those with AIDS were treated horrendously. Especially in the UK. The "gay plague" it was called in the West. In the gay community, AIDS was rampant sadly. Promiscuity was common as AIDS wasn't treated seriously for many years and many gay men ignored it until they started dying in numbers. Nobody knew who they got it from. There was a lot of confusion. Freddie was always a private person in interviews. David Wigg who conducted the interview was a trusted friend who was the only journalist who Freddie trusted and was more open too. You should search for interviews with him talking about Freddie.
If you're interested in more context, you should watch Freddie Mercury - The Final Act. Also, the British drama, "It's a Sin". It's based between 1981-1991 and is excellent. Showing how the AIDS crisis developed. The movie The Normal Heart is also good. They would give you an idea of what Freddie dealt with. The difference being he was a huge star and the UK press back then was nasty. He had to keep even his sexuality a mystery for the sake of the group... so his AIDS diagnosis he had to be even more silent with.
That is something you don't hear too much in the gay community. Being honest about your extreme promiscuity and excess. He literally said: you do it to yourself.
