@@Consural one of the best albums of all time. Even though it's heretical to say, at times I feel it's even better than Meshugah itself. Such a strong, powerful, alien, avantgarde album that is so increasingly more immersive and fulfilling as the album progresses. But it is hard though cause Contradictions Collapse, Destroy Erase Improve, Nothing, Catch 33 and Obzen are such masterpieces as well.
@@bassmania84 Fredrik wears his Holdsworth inspiration directly on his chest for all to see, but IMO, hes one of the only ones out there who actually does it justice and infuses it into something totally different than the source material.
faultandfracture it’s like thordendal was implanted in Holdsworth by a xenomorph face sucker, and out of Holdsworth chest popped out Thordendal, baby alien Holdsworth. Mother Holdsworth had more tentacles and baby alien thordendalsworth had more teeth Hahahahahaha both my idols of guitar ahhhhhhh
I am sure someone from MESHUGGAH would go on youtube and read the comments every now and then and notice that the fans are asking for more solos and the backing vocals coming back would be good. I would luv for their next album to have more solos than DEI even.
This is so fuggin good dude. Wish we had a version of higher audio quality. It’s a crime that this man hasn’t released more of his own stuff. The solos in meshuggah don’t satisfy my thirst like this. He really lets loose here.
Not sure what you call it, but that breath-control device is sik as hell. The way it "splays" out the notes at the end, with the tone becomming sharper. Just awesome.
Hate to be "That guy" but it's actually his "3D breath midi controller" demo. He and his guitar tech built this and this is a demo of it in action. The plans for it are on the meshuggah forums as well as a detailed explanation and link to the song. Amazing piece of work. Hope it finds its way on the new meshuggah or special defects album(s).
This is such an awesome piece of music. Hits the essence of why I love Shuggah right there. And now word is out. Fred will be recording the new Shuggah album with his mates. And will be touring with them again. How's that for a wonderful news!
They toured together, so there's a musical appreciation for each other, so really, it's totally possible. May we hope a tour to support it, too? Hell yes.
Breath controllers are basically made to control synths like a flute. blowing into it makes the volume go up, and you can set the threshold so that blowing turns it on all the way up, or so that the harder you blow the louder it gets. You can set the blowing up to control other things than volume too though. And the 33 breath controller can be tilted up and down and left and right, and you cen set that up to control things too. It's like a joystick.
Hey how do I find more like this.. I’ve heard every meshuggah track are there any that sound like this I’m not remembering? Also what is this?? Are there more of these
@Jdcie 2 ways, can take your pinky and wrap it around the volume knob, as you pick go from 0 - 7 or 8 as to cancel out the sound of the pick. You can also use a volume pedal or something similar to that nature.
My fav guitarist simply becaus ehe does what I'd do if I was as good a shredder....even blend of heavy choppy, chuggy riffs and some awesome leads and shredding! Lotta melody and jazzy composition. Total jazz-metal prog genius. Thanks for posting!
Just came across and really weird timing too as I was just listening to DEI last night thinking that I would love them to reintroduce some of the spacey, jazzy melodic interludes that were on that and Contradictions Collapse. They're music would be all the better for it as they've proven time and time again that they have mastered heaviness. A trimmed down part like this would be so sick to hear on a modern Meshuggah album.
crazy how you commented this 10 years ago and it's still not out yet lol. Hopefully soon... Or even a new Meshuggah album, it's been almost 5 years since their last album even though it doesn't seem like it.
@@brentos5001 dude I forgot that a part2 was even in the works thats how long its taken and now Immutable is out and Fredrik barely is part of the band anymore...
@hier0phant Yea, that's cute and all...but none has there been a benevolent being like Fred, and praise is given to the mighty 33 by the faithful down tuned.....
I just noticed that his entire background on myspace is an illustration of the famous Mandelbrot set, which I find very befitting. The Mandelbrot set is where math meets art, it's a visualization of infinite complexity, mystery and beauty, created simple means. It can be appealing even to a layman as it is graspable through our visual sense, even though it lacks almost all of the natural properties known. Fredrik is just an audile Mandelbrot.
I'd love to hear a guy Like Chris Poland (whom I idolize) to make an appearance on a Meshuggah song on an up coming album and trade solos with Fredrik. It would be amazing 2 great jazz/metal guitarists trading solos.
No, as in wider steps within the scale, so rather than intervals of seconds or thirds, he will tend to use 6th, 7th or stacked triads/arpeggios within the scale shapes he is using. He also uses tapping to achive very wide sounding intervals, often the same scale shape played an octave above.
everyone needs to watch the old 98 show meshuggah did in springfield, search on here for it, its so good, his improv is amazing and his stage presence is awesome
To put it basically, in the way a keyboard MIDI controller sends solid signal chains in straight lines as you hit the keys, the breath controller send the signals he plays on the guitar, but loosens up the signal a little bit so it sounds less rigid. Hope that made sense :P
I clicked on this song and my computer said "Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer"....That's how powerful this song is!!!
Fredrik said that he has the idea for a new album in his head so it's just a matter of time before he unleashes it on the world. We just have to be patient... 12 years and ticking.... I hope we won't have to wait 33 years.
@bertamon Yeah there is a cool interview with Fredrik in this months Guitar magazine, and he talks about the breath controller among other things. Check it out.
Speed is a dynamic which helps you express youself (musically). Sometimes you need to play slow and soft and sometimes you need to play hard and fast. This change/devolpment/evolution makes the musical phrases more interesting (gives them more life). At the 2.07 point Thorendal really gives it some. This "expressive progression" (u know what I mean!) is what gives his playing so much depth (plus why it's so hard to emulate). Maybe this is why he's wearing a Tool shirt; he likes progression.
