My Friend Took a Chance and it Sucked, but then it worked out alright. The problem is that my friend was totally freaking out! I had no idea how to properly help them. I was doing all the wrong soul first aid. So how do you help a friend when it all falls apart? Let's get better together! #podcast

It's a great observation that only the person that is down can do the self-fixing. They just need the space and time to do it. And sometimes the resources:) I'm sure that after a breakup you wouldn't encourage your friend to start dating on the same or the next day. Picking yourself up after a failure reminds me of a bad breakup, one needs time for digestion and a good friend to stand by 😘

This is such an AWESOME analogy. Totally going to keep it in mind. Thank you!

This is good advice, as we can never fix anyone...they have to choose to get there but in the valley of pain with the wounds, we all know that is not easy. I have also learned to not 'borrow sorrow'...I can help, pray, cry. comfort etc...but I cannot go down with them or let it pull me under. You are right about more good than bad and though it's been tough we have truly survived all those bad days. I finally got set up with a counselor, no one could make that move but me. I did ask God for guidance and he brought me to a great fit. I want to thank you for opening up this channel as before I had faced going to counseling, it encouraged me to consider and start opening the pathway to get better.

Thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself with me/us. You are so right about not borrowing sorrow. It is so important. It's a boundary I struggle with. I hope that counseling is so helpful for you!

@@MelissaHunterTalk It has been so far, but I do not forget the fact that you were here encouraging us when I wasn't going anywhere yet. Thanks and you have been in my prayers daily. ❤

Listening is so important! Most people only reacts immediately to what the other is saying instead of taking the time to actually take in the words and the feelings the other is feeling. We are sometimes afraid of not feeling helpful right away, when the other person only needs time to breathe. Thank you again for bringing this subjects up ✨ 🧀💖 it's so important to know that we are not alone making mistakes, feeling vulnerable and seeking help.

Listening is something I need to continue to remind myself to do. Also I need to remember I am not the main character in anyone's story but my own :-)

I’m 30 and see you as my RU-vid mentor. We have a lot in common and I hope to be like you as I get older. My best friend is currently in the trenches and this was great advice.

You know the saying "give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach him to fish, feed him for life"? I'm dealing right now with one who just wants me to keep handing him fish and refuses to pick up a rod.

that is known as a time suck....eventually they have to learn how to fish or you have to move on :-(. It's so hard. Luckily my friend is okay and she is very patient with my sucky advising skills, LOL!
