Very good! Regarding Atari 800 (and all Atari 8-bit computers), it's not easy to define graphic capabilities, there are a lot of graphic modes, with many resolutions, with overscan too, like the successor Amiga. In the display field I would write "max 336x240, 128 colors palette". The palette, increased to 256 colors in 1982 when CTIA chip was replaced with GTIA, was an important feature in 1979.
@RetroDream
@RetroDream Год назад
Thanks for the excellent info! You're absolutely right, it's not easy to provide normalized figures with all these different kinds of machines. I first thought about putting the palette and then decided otherwise.

From a hardware engineering perspective, the IBM PC's 8088 CPU is an 8-bit CPU but from a software engineering perspective, it is a 16-bit processor. The 8088 has an 8-bit data bus and is the same as the 8086 CPU which has a 16-bit data bus, but the 8088 is slower because it takes twice as long to move data in from RAM and out to RAM again. It would be best to call the CPU a 16/8-bit hybrid.. Later IBM PS/2 systems used the 8086 CPU and were much faster, but still ran 16-bit software.

You didn't include other compatible models on the Amstrad CPC. Why would you list the 6128 separately when you didn't for other series?
@RetroDream
@RetroDream Год назад
I did for some of them. But it's difficult to stick to a strict rule. I'll have a more exhaustive study with much more machines in a subsequent video.
@timlocke3159

For the Commodore PET, the Models in the Series section should include the 8000 series which had 80 column displays.

Nice video but there are some incomplete or even wrong specifications on some machines. For example the Amiga 500/1000 CPU: 7.16 MHz for the NTSC version or 7.1 MHz for the PAL version NTSC mode: 3200x200 / 640x480 PAL mode: 320x256 / 640 x512 Colors: 320x200/320x256 (32) 320x200/320x256 (64) extra Half-Brite (not on A1000).There are some games that take advantage of this mode. It is a feature of the chip itself. It is not a software hack. And what about the HAM6 mode? HAM6 mode allows up to 4096 colors. Mainly it was used for digital images but there are also demos and even some games that make use of this mode on static images. I would continue with other computers but the message would be very extensive :)
@RetroDream
@RetroDream Год назад
And similarly, I'd have added all details if I had chosen to make an extensive video... But I chose a limited one, leaving room for another more extensive video later :)

Why list three essentially-the-same 68000 Macs, but miss the MacII and Atari STE from 1989? Why miss the A1200 as a separate machine to the A500? And most importantly, you've missed Acorn's Archimedes/RISCOS machines altogether.
@RetroDream
@RetroDream Год назад
I agree that following the "family series" logic there shouldn't have been the 3 Macs. It's a small intentional mistake. I'll make another more exhaustive video.
@asm1
@asm1 Год назад
@Retro Dream yeah +1 for the Archimedes, although used more in schools it was probably appropriate for home use (lots of teachers bought them) I upgraded from bbc micro. It's also hugely important as the first machine to use the ARM chip/architecture (Acorn RISC Machine) without which we wouldn't have all sorts of devices: phones, tablets and the like, all the way up to the latest Macs. So if the Lisa goes on here as a fairly rare and hugely expensive, home machine, then the Archimedes certainly deserves a place. Otherwise, nice vid 😉

@@RetroDream Your image shows a Tandy Color Computer 2 early model (white case with the chicklet keyboard). It was based on a 6809 cpu and had up to 64kb. The graphics reached 256x192 monochrome or 128x192 in 4 colors The Color Computer 3 released in 1986 had expanded specs, with up to 512kb RAM, double speed, and 320x225 16-colors graphics or 640x225 in 4 colors. It has nothing to do with the specs you display. The specs are likely for a TRS-80 Model 1, based on the Z-80 CPU.
