Fujifilm X100V vs X100T - First Impressions Summary 

Well, Justin -- your luck has changed! Below is my entire workflow for using film simulations on XT1 / X100T. What you are doing is changing the name of the camera in the EXIF data in the RAW file to trick Capture One into thinking the file comes from a newer camera. (The film simulations problem in C1 is not technical. It is about intellectual property). You will need to download and buy an app called Meta Image (search: MetaImage). Below is my workflow copied and pasted from my Notes app. A lot of work when into this workflow, so I hope you appreciate it -- and please pay it forward. Toward the bottom is a link to a RU-vid video that contains a lot of information about this. ========== X-T1 / X100T RAW Workflow - EXIF Conversions and Using Current Fujifilm Color Profiles 2021.09.07 > You can use a hack to convert X-Trans II RAW files to use the color profiles of the current cameras in Capture One. This makes greatly improves your older cameras. 

 > Unlike what people say on RU-vid videos, you ONLY need to change the “Camera Model Name.” You do NOT need to change the “Software.” 1. Shoot RAW & JPEG. 2. Ingest your files as usual. 3. Edit down your files and move them to the PICKS folder (This is a redundant back-up) (Cull your picks carefully. MetaImage can not handle lots of files). 4. Copy the RAW files you a separate folder called PICKS-E (for EXIF) 5. Open MetaImage App. 6. Drag and drop the RAW files from PICKS-E to MetaImage. 7. Choose the top file on the left-hand list of files. Click on “Camera Model Name.” Change the name to either “X100V” or “X-T4” exactly. The Cntl + C copy this name. 8. Now click on “Make”. (Or any other category in the Metadata field. For some silly reason, this is the only way I could get the “Camera Model Name” to actually change). You will see a red dot on the file.

 NOTE: Today (2022.02.07) I needed to change “Software” to “Digital Camera X100V Ver1.00” to get the Fujifilm Film Profiles in Capture One. Also, I removed the .xmp files from the PICKS-E folder.
 9. Now highlight all of the files. Paste the copied camera name in the “EXIF:Model” field on the right-hand side to all of the other files. 10. Again, click on “Make” to change the “Camera Model Name” for all of the files. They will all have a red dot. 11. With all of the files highlighted, click “Save All Edited Files,” which is in the Square With Arrow icon at the top of the window. This will save the metadata changes in the RAW files in the PICKS-E folder. (You will still have the original RAW files in the main folder and the PICKS folder). 12. Import these RAW files into Capture One. Check to see if the name has been changed. You will see all of the current Color Profiles. Yay! NOTE: MetaImage is buggy software and it sometimes crashes. Also, follow these instructions carefully. I tried following the instructions from people on RU-vid who said that I needed to change the “Software” category in MetaImage, but then I could not import the converted RAW files into Capture One. It took me a whole day to sort out this workflow. =========== (This was the original info about how to do this. When I followed these directions, I could NOT get Capture One to import the files because I had changed the “Software” dialog box along with the “Camera Model Name.” I only need to change the “Camera Model Name.”) How to Use Capture One 20 Fujifilm Film profiles with X-T1, X100T by Changing Exif Data. Hey Stefan. It is a hood for a Pentax DA 40mmF2.8 Limited lens. I started using one with my first X100S camera. It was the smallest hood I could find that protected the lens and controlled flare. I wanted to make the profile of the camera as small as possible to fit in my bag. There are other options available nowadays. When I find something that works, I tend to stick with it.

Do you use the x-t2 for portraits? If so, how is the autofocus on it?

@@ronaldojoe3011 not bad at all, it’s not Sony fast but it does the job. Use the newer fujicrons eg the 35mm or 23 f2 for very fast focus though. I mostly shoot street though and use manual lenses mostly with the focus peaking on 👌🏼

Hey Chacha. Thanks for your kind words. I don't use the on-body flash often, but I just tested it out for you. I don't see a shadow from the Pentax hood. It doesn't stick out to the side of the lens. You might be able to find a Chinese knockoff of the Pentax hood on Amazon. I saw one a few years back.

That’s great. It’s always been an annoyance for me. I also don’t use it often but sometimes need it in a pinch. A smaller hood like the Pentax one would be great for me. Been going through your videos and really enjoying them. Gets the juices flowing to go out and shoot. Going out to Palm Springs this weekend so Fuji will be tagging along.

Hi Sb. Thanks for your kind words. No, I don't use a lens cap with this camera. As use a high-quality protective filter and that lens hood. I bought a Kenko ZX II Protector filter. It is a Japanese brand. Spend a few more bucks and get a good filter. I know all of the hipsters think it is uncool, but I have destroyed a lot of gear in my days out in the field. A new filter is a lot cheaper that a new lens. I have never seen an image quality difference with a good filter. The lens hood is a Pentax MH-RE49 Lens Hood for HD DA 40mm f/2.8 Limited (according to B&H). It is the smallest hood I could find that actually works. It is probably pretty expensive. Some Chinese company was making knock-offs a while back. You could search on Amazon. Also, you will need the filter adapter ring. The Fuji one is crazy expensive. Again, see if there are Chinese knockoffs on Amazon. It is ok to go cheap with the filter adapter and the hood, but spend a bit more on a good filter. It doesn't have to be the most expensive, but don't get the cheapest. Have fun!

Hey Sam. That is a JJC Metal Hand Grip for X100F and X100V. I got it on Amazon. It works fine so far.

That Pentax 40mm f2.8 Limited hood is very compact and protects the lens well. I have no idea how well it will match. I had the hood you see on my T on my previous silver X100s and it looked fine. Your mileage may vary. Yes, I have a good quality filter underneath the hood.

Hi Dave. Thank you for your kind words. I sincerely appreciate it. On the front of the X100T, I had a FUJIFILM AR-X100 Adapter Ring. I was using an old silver one from my previous X100S -- which I had a zillion shot on until it died. You need the adapter ring to add filters, hoods, etc. See if you can find one used. They are stupidly expensive new. There might be some Chinese knock-off on Amazon. They work for all X100 versions, except the first one (I think). In front of that is a good quality UV filter. And in front of that is a Pentax MH-RC 49mm Lens Hood for DA 40mm f/2.8 Lens (that's what B&H calls it). It is the smallest hood I could find that protects the lens without vignetting. I want to keep this camera small in my bag. I hope that helps.

It depends on where you live. In the U.S., check prices on KEH Cameras website. In Japan, check MAP Camera in Tokyo. I don't know about reputable used camera dealers in other countries. (I have no affiliation with these shops, but I have bought from them).

Hi Tom. That is a good question but difficult to me to describe in a short RU-vid comment. Firstly, the X100V has quite a few more film simulations. 95%+ of the time, I use Provia (Standard). They are clearly not the same. Without getting technical about the colors (which I am bad at), I'll say that I really liked the X100T/XT-1 series colors -- especially the skin tones -- but they weren't realistic. Strong reds and blues sometimes looked like crayons. The newer camera has more accurate colors. It has taken me a while to get used to it, but now I like it. Color is incredibly complicated and I am not a techie kind of guy. I want my gear to do the heavy lifting so that I can concentrate on capturing the moment. Having used the X100V more since I shot this video, I am very happy I made the upgrade. The lens is better and the camera is overall better built and faster. And the AF is better, which had probably been the biggest weakness of Fuji cameras. I hope this helps.

@@PaulCrousePhoto Thank you for your response! I have an Canon R6 that serves a more professional role but want a camera for travel / street. I found a x100t ($500) and x100v ($1500). Not sure if it's worth 3x from the T to the V.. It doesn't seem like there are massive upgrades for me to justify getting the x100v at this moment, although I really want everything is has to offer

@@Tom-ff8cv At $500, the T is a great deal. I used mine for many years and shot something like 60,000 frame with it. Just be aware that it won’t be as responsive as your Canon - especially the AF. I usually shot it with center point AF and it worked fine. I set the sharpening to +1 and got great Jpegs straight out of the camera. I hope this helps. Let me know how it works out for you.

Yeah. I prefer something to blend in a little more, although am 6'5" (almost 2m) tall. I never blend in here in Japan. LOL. On the other had, I had a silver X100S. People often asked me if I was using an old camera, which I don't get so much with the black. An old photojournalist trick was to cover your camera with gaffer's tape so it looked like crap. Hey S Kebir. No, I don't miss the D-Pad. The little focus nubby works fine for me. I appreciate having extra space for my thumb. I often have problems on other cameras accidentally pressing buttons. I have not had the problem so far with the X100V.

@@PaulCrousePhoto that’s great. I’m still using the fujifilm x10 can’t get rid of it. I did get a full frame camera but it doesn’t inspire me like the x10. Is the x100v like a rangefinder?

@@labradax If you like your X10, then there is no need to change it. Is the X100V like a rangefinder. No and yes. No = Rangefinders are manual focus cameras that are slow to use. There was a reason that photographers in the early 60s dumped their Leicas for Nikon SLRs. The Nikons were much easier to use and you could change lenses. You have to practice a lot to focus well with a rangefinder. I was never good at it. Yes = It has a body style and is like a Leica M3 with a 35mm f2 lens BUT is a very modern, high-tech camera. Smallish easy to carry. I have met some people who really like their digital Leicas, but they tended to be professionals who used the Leica's for personal projects. Both Leicas and X100Vs are niche cameras and not for everyone. I hope that helps.

@@PaulCrousePhoto I believe in one of your videos you said the focus for the x100v is done by the joystick? (I do prefer rangefinders.) Do you find that helpful for manual focus? In your viewfinder how does the manual focus work, for example, Nikon uses a dot and arrows.
