What's more fun than finding a Full Odds Shiny? Finding a Full Odds Shiny while you're not even hunting.

I'm a full odds hunter, but we all love a good masuda method hunt now and then (Got my Phione that way). Personally, the shinies I find via fullodds are much more fulfilling. With the ridiculous encounter rates for Sun and Moon Pokemon, I have a feeling full odds hunters are going to have to phase and phase until the 5% Pokemon show up. Each to their own.

Saw this video retweeted in my Twitter feed. I'm a casual Pokemon player, and I really appreciate this approach. I think the new methods kind of devalue the thrill of finding a Shiny naturally. No hate to anybody who uses the newer methods, but I really like finding them the good old fashioned way! Great video! :)

This is an incredible video, very well said! It's just not right that us full odds hunters have some sort of bad reputation for judging the way others hunt when most of the time it's the other way around. I do think method hunting is stupid easy but it's the methods I dislike, not the people who use them. Everyone has their own preferences and that's perfectly fine. I really hope this video will help both full odds and method hunters grow up and realize that people can shiny hunt the way they want, and that it's fine to have a different preference than other people. I know I definitely took shiny hunting way too seriously in the past, but even then I thought it was just dumb and pointless to harass someone over the way they shiny hunt because in the end it's just a hobby, and the most important thing is to have fun.

Regardless of whether you hunt with a method or hunt full odds we all have one thing in common and that is that we love finding shiny pokemon

update: after this vídeo I decided to make a Full odds shiny hunt and the First Pokemon I found was a shiny araquinid lol

I still remember when I first started shiny hunting. My first two shinies were both method hunted and my reaction was more of an "Oh!" rather than a "Holy Shit!" which is probably an understatement when describing my first hunted full odds shiny xD

I’m just watching this, and oh my god, you explained it so perfectly. I prefer random encounters and soft resetting to any other method, and you pretty much hit all of my points as to why I prefer full odds.

I was fishing for a pokemon and found a shiny instead. I obviously freaked out but then I realised it was chain fishing. I still always get excited no matter method or full ods. (Although im not a patient full odds shiny hunter)

I'm a method and to me the fun of shiny hunting is planning how to hunt specific things in efficient ways. (Movesets, how to get consistent chains, etc.) You don't really get that with full odds, but that part of the charm, not knowing when it's gonna show up and knowing that it was absolute chance. I really have respect for full odds hunters.

Thanks so much for this video, Dallas. Been waiting for it for a long time and you addressed just about every point I ever would have (and more). No hunter should feel inferior just because they hunt a certain way, while others hunt a different way. I think a lot of method hunters would be surprised to hear that even amongst full-odds hunters there are those who believe one type of full-odds is better(!?) than another! You can never truly hold up to any perfect standard when it comes to shiny hunting. All you can do is focus on what you love and what makes you happy. That's really what hunting is all about, and that's why the "full odds huners think they're better" mindset is such utter garbage. It's just about the journey and the adrenaline rush, whether it comes super fast or it takes forever, and this is a message that absolutely needed to be put out there. Shiny hunting is shiny hunting. Like you my sister and I have made so many friends just because of it (you included), and we wouldn't give that up for anything! Thanks for addressing this in such a well made video. Love you.

i know this video is a little old, but i wanted to say something. randomly one day i just wanted to hunt full odds and i had no idea why, i thought it would be fun to try it out. now i do full odds hunting a lot and might even prefer it. i still method hunt and dont undermine method hunters, but Dallas, you and many others have inspired me to try it out so i wanted to say thank you :)

I don't see what's wrong with a full odds hunter. I method hunt but people complain that it takes to long. I tried it AN ITS AMAZING

i think like a month ago i was playing black two and i wanted a riolu in my team. then out of no where, i found one and it was shiny! she's now a beautiful lucario named riley (yeah i named it after riley in dppt).

Would horde hunting be full odds or method? I mean each Pokemon has their own 1/4096 chance of being shiny, but it's faster, so is it a mix of both?

Dallas! I know you put this up awhile ago, but I've finally been inspired to shiny hunt in older generations! I have a copy of Pokèmon White and Black, so I'm SR for Snivy and Oshawott and I'm soo excited to see how long the hunt takes and challenging myself with the 1/8000 odds. I've hunted since 6th and well... I've gotten bored of shiny hunting in recent games, like ridiculously so I wanted to see if playing older games would get me back into it. Thank you for explaining Full Odds and why people hunt this way, even though Masuda Method is my favourite way to hunt, RE and SR can be just as fun.

I’ve unintentionally transitioned into being more of a full odds Hunter. I released all of my wormhole shinies because they didn’t mean anything to me, it felt too easy. Even though I have a full-time job, I enjoy not finding shinies too too often, because it’s such a rush when I find one.

SOS for Shiny Mareanie! or for shiny low level Salamence/Dragonite. A lot of SOS is easy but there are some challenges still there. I got a random shiny Chansey from a Riolu SOS and I was actually just going for a regular Lucario.

hey Dallas, I have a question. I'm not a shiny hunter, but when I started my first playthrough of alpha sapphire, I was running around at the beginning trying to get a ralts to appear, and when a hidden one finally popped up, it just so happened to be shiny. I know that gen 6 onward have better shiny chances, but would that fall under full odds?

I got a shiny absol after 14 RE's and no shiny charm today :D

When you breed, if you do, do you use masuda method or do you just breed with a normal ditto?

For soft reseting for a shiny starter, is it better to delete the save game after say 700 Soft Resets where you never got a shiny or just carry on? Does it make a difference to the seed for the RNG?

Seriously, couldn't agree with you more Dallas. Thank you for making this. I started out with Masuda method so I will always have a soft spot for it, but people like you were what inspired me try full odds hunting more. And here I am, nearly 2 years later, and don't see myself turning back. o/ But as someone that made that jump, starting out full odds can seem super intimidating. I can completely understand others that don't want to do it or don't understand it. It can be rough sometimes! But that's what makes it fun, least in my opinion and other like minded people. But at the end of the day, a shiny is a shiny.

Preach! I really got into shiny hunting when x and y came out. After countless reduced odds shiny I tried full odds. It is now my preferred way to shiny hunt. 100% agree with everything you said. Good luck on your hunts everyone.

Dude I totally agree with the whole full odds shiny. My reactions have been way cooler when I don't know what I'm getting. Plus I'm new to the whole method hunting. I do like method hunting if you're looking for one Pokémon in general but I like "full odds" if you just want a shiny. I also wanted to say your content rocks and I always love watching. Keep them coming!!

I hunt both full odds and method. I do full odds for lots of the reasons you say, but usually have to take breaks between almost every hunt because it is *repetitive* . Full odds is always the same thing, running around, but as I said, I enjoy it for reasons you listed. I do method because it has so many different ways to improve your odds, it makes a nice mix, so I can play different games or just do different methods to have some extra fun playing the game instead of just sitting there staring and doing repetitive things. Yes, methods get repetitive, but it you alternate its fine. Also, you actually actively engage in the game when method hunting. For example, you have to carefully pay attention to your chain and play the game instead of popping on netflix and running around for forever. (But as I've said, I still love full odds, but it just gets a bit repetitive) The one thing I will never do is the shiny charm. WHAT? Ok, let me explain. I don't care how long it takes to get a shiny, but it means more to me if it takes longer, especially if the odds are less. I only enjoy method hunting because it is fun to do, not because it increases the odds. Which is why I never finished my pokedex since black 2 and white 2. I would get all except one most likely route 1 pokemon to feel it is mostly finished, then make sure to never hunt that pokemon in that game. That is my opinion and oh god this is long. Oh well! Here, take my opinion I know you never asked for.

Hey K9 I have a question, I have been soft resetting to get a shiny popplio since November and Im still stuck on soft resetting for thing thing to shine. Whenever you take a break from soft resetting such as cutting your game completely off a certain amount of times does that actually eventually lock the starters? I really hope thats not true because if thats the case then that means I have wasted 2 and a half months soft resetting for this thing and I REALLY want a beautiful blonde Primarina. Also I stopped counting after around maybe 400 SRs.

I agree with everything in the video. No matter if you hunt full odds or methods, at the end of the day we all should enjoy what we do to get our shinies since they all mean something to us all individually. There shouldn't be any conflict since if you really think about we're aiming toward the same goal, it is just that everyone obtains their shiny Pokemon differently and there's no need for discrimination. I'm just going to end that here, remember to hunt what you makes you happy, full odds or methods it doesn't matter as long as you're happy. Have fun with it and good luck with all your hunts everyone ♡

I used to do full odds hunts, when I was younger and had more time on my hands. Just soft resetting over and over watching your videos hahaha! Now, I can't do that anymore, so I'm more of a method hunter, but no shiny will ever make me as happy and excited than my shiny Groudon in SS. 28 000 soft resets of pure happiness :)
